An 8 score would be more appropriate. Did not expand answers at any stage. It was like a question n answer session . Also, there's no word ' journaling ' in the English language. Seemed to be in a hurry to finish the test. On the whole - a good effort.

This candidate wouldn't be rated an 8.5 in the actual IELTS test because she'd need to be rated a band 9 in at least 2 of the 4 parameters. And to be rated a band 9 in any of the criteria, you'd have to be almost perfect, making just occasional slips. It's disappointing that there's no explanation as to how the interviewer arrived at this score. That said, this video is a clear example of how IELTS trainers in India often rate students - they give the test taker a band score based on the overall impression they make, which is not how it is done in the actual test. Also, the interviewer mispronounced a number of words - content, coherence and pronunciation (wrong word stress) are the ones I can remember off the cuff.

Mam! Your part, as the interviewer, was really terrific but I wanna bring to your notice that you too committed a couple of grammatical errors in your speech when you gave your evaluation of the candidate's performance! @@khadgam5428, with due respect, I don't think the interviewer has a clear understanding of the IELTS assessment criteria. Just listen to the feedback on pronunciation, and you'll know what I mean. There's no mention of concepts such as connected speech, rhythm or syllables. Similarly, when discussing the test taker's vocabulary use, the interviewer doesn't talk about collocations at all, which is a key area that IELTS examiners focus on to determine whether a test taker has just learnt up vocabulary for the test. I don't mean to disrespect anyone, but this video should ideally have a detailed analysis of the test taker's performance, with examples of good and poor language use.

You are missing the woods for the trees. She is able to put her ideas across effectively and effortlessly. Go to hell with your vocabulary and advance connectors. The criteria are just guidelines. They are not to be followed religiously and ridiculously. Your comment shows that you need some basic lessons in grammar before arrogating yourself to the position of a judge. It's definitely a 9 for me.

You can keep looking at your notes while you speak. Please also keep the task card where you can see it clearly - if you ever dry up before the 2 minutes are over, you can look at the prompts (fragments that begin with Wh- words) and identify something new to say. Test rules clearly state that the examiner can collect your note pad and task card only after Part 2 draws to a close. Good luck! 🙂

Jishnu, I have seen a couple of persons overcoming the problem and becoming very confident speakers. Very often it is a psychological thing which can be tackled in a supportive environment. Alternatively, you could inform the examiner or the organisation about your problem and request them to factor it in while evaluating your performance. If you have obtained a certificate of your difficulty from the competent authority, you can submit the same to them. I am sure they will grant some concessions to a differently abled persons. Have courage and confidence. This isn't a major hurdle at all. All the best.
