Hello Fishy, please never stop making videos. I know that some of your videos don't get as many views, wich may be discouraging to you, but you're the only channel that doesn't recycle the same scientific funfacts, but brings something new and interesting to the table. You also often show and test things that you talk about in the video yourself, wich is double awesome. When in doubt, just know that you make amazing videos!

The total mass inside the closed system is unchanged. The total volume of the system is unchanged. So the weight of the system is unchanged.

Weight yes, but force on the scale can definitely change

@@Hoolahups The only force measured by a scale is weight :p (Yes, there may be a temporary change in the forces inside the box, but that's like trying to push a truck from the inside. Action -> reaction)

2:54 Mad Respect for saying that! Yep, it's true that because of the modern curriculum curiosity and wonder about the natural world is replaced with the "how to get the most marks in exam" schtick. Destroying the scientific method and to be frank future scientists in the process.

why the weight increases with open top: increased pressure from downward flow of air from drone, without the reduced pressure from above the drone caused by the closed system.

Hydrodynamics and fluid mechanics is not only for water you know 😜 Air is just a disperse liquid (and water only keeps its liquid form because of the pressure of the rest of the atmosphere). If you did the same experiment a the top of a mountain, the weight would decrease more even, but if you flew over the ocean and did the same experiment the weight would be even less because gravity changes depending of the amount of rocky mass beneath you. It's subtle but it's there and you need precision tools to even notice these changes. Every particle counts as real isolated systems can't really exist (not even galactic distances are exempt from influencing each other 👀).

Yeah it’s the air flow momentum that imparts the “weight” of the drone on the box. Look up the conservation of momentum integral method in Fluid mechanics.
