In case you should know, not all camels are desert animals, only the dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) is a true desert dweller, while the other five extant camel species being the Vicuna (Vicugna vicugna), the Alpaca (Vicugna pacos), the Guanaco (Lama guanicoe), the Llama (Lama glama), and the Bactrian Camel (Oreocamelus bactrianus) are all more used to forested, grassy, mountainous, and snowy environments.
@BobSmith-ci9mv2 ай бұрын
Technically, the South American species listed above aren't camels, but they are all in the same family, Camelidae.
@indyreno29332 ай бұрын
@BobSmith-ci9mv, actually, "camel" refers to the family Camelidae as a whole, therefore guanacos, llamas, vicunas, and alpacas are camels, why do you think extinct genera of the family are referred to as camels?, it's because "camel" refers to the family Camelidae as a whole, there are six extant camel species under four genera: the Vicuna (Vicugna vicugna), the Alpaca (Vicugna pacos), the Guanaco (Lama guanicoe), the Llama (Lama glama), the Dromedary (Camelus dromedarius), and the Bactrian Camel (Oreocamelus bactrianus), guanacos, llamas, vicunas, and alpacas are camels, just like elk, moose, caribou, muntjacs, brockets, and pudus are deer because "deer" refers to the family Cervidae as a whole, just like bison, yak, gaurs, bantengs, koupreys, buffalo, and saolas are cattle because "cattle" refers to the tribe Bovini as a whole, and just like dolphins, porpoises, blackfish, and river dolphins are whales because "whale" refers to the order Cetacea as a whole.

Dogs can even interbreed with zorros, also known as the South American "foxes", animals which are more closely related to maned wolves and which are not even in the same subtribe, much less genus as dogs

Correct! That’s bc there too taxonomically separate. That is that they diverged genetically too long ago. Dogs wolves and coyotes as well as jackals are all in the genus Canis, meaning the only serration are species, one separation. Hares and rabbits as well is Pikas are members of the ORDER lagomorpha, they’re all lagomorphs, they share similarities but they are all in different families, genuses and species.

Fat can be used as a pretty efficient water source when it's broken down, it releases three molecules of water for each carbohydrate molecule, if I remember correctly. So in a way, camel humps do store water! Loved the video, especially the piano cues! It's super relaxing to listen to you. Subscribed! :)

I remember learning on SciShow that when you lose body fat, it breaks all the way down to water, then you pee it out.

Seems kinda odd to claim that ostrich eggs aren't the largest because there was a bird that laid a larger egg but is now extinct. By that logic, won't that egg also not be the largest since if you go further back, there's definitely gonna be some bird in the distant past that laid a larger egg..
@phadrus2 ай бұрын
I though it was a little unfair too. Also hard to prove some ancient egg fossil came from some other fossil.
@danieliman56972 ай бұрын
It's not that distant if you consider they extinct only a few thausand years ago when humans already around, The birds still can be considered modern and it is also the largest bird known.
@Kayleigh_McKee2 ай бұрын
See my other comment, its presumed to be the largest a bird egg can ever get and we actually HAVE the bird eggs, intact, since they went extinct not that long ago all things considered.
