@@suzannac.6057 I read once that dogs instinctively don't like to be carried because the restriction uncomfortably inhibits them from running should something trigger their reflexes to run. So it's possible that some dogs want to be picked up for attention, but then when you go to do it a more profound part of their mind tells them they don't want it. But this is just an assumption from a guy who really doesn't know a whole lot on the subject.

The German shepherd one perfectly describes how my older brothers dog acted when he first saw me. I guess I checked out but he'd give the I'm watching you look while I sat on the couch lol. He even went over to my cousins room and opened the door when she closed it a Crack with this attitude that said " how many times do I NEED to tell you Vanessa, KEEP the door open so I can see you at all times!" Luckily for me he accepted me into his pack because late at night while I slept on the couch, he came and did his patrol to check on everyone and I was among them. Guess I'm clear. Lol 😂

Oh man that's SO true about them! My parents especially loved 2 particular breeds of dogs: miniature long-haired Dachshunds (of which Mom has one now) and.... Rottweilers 😁. The Rotties were the gentle, mild-mannered teddy bears who scared people with the smallest growl or gruff while the beautiful little Dachshunds that everyone swooned over were actually the stubborn, territorial ones ignoring commands😏. But I loved them all.❤

Well they are bred to be independent Hunters so they instinctively don't feel they need to listen to us. They are not a beginner dog and they are not for people who think that they should be dominating their dog. It is a dog you will have to compromise with but its overall well behaved

I have two 1.5 year old mini-dachshund/Pit Bull mixes. The girl looks like a super muscular mini-dachshund, the boy looks like a hound with a bulldog head (yeah, I dunno). Boy is super sweet, into everything, and like most pitties I've ever known, heartbroken if you're upset with him. The girl ... well ... she's pretty ... cuddly if only on HER terms, and probably the most savage animal I've ever owned, known for attacking neighbors' yard ornaments. The boy is pretty receptive to training. The girl .. well I've been trying since she was 6 weeks old. She'll sit ... occasionally ... [eye-roll]. My 15 year old Boxer/Pit mix (who approves of boy puppy .. mostly, and resents every breath taken by the girl) has always been "mostly obedient" ... with just enough stubbornness to make it fun. They are all super protective of me (sometimes from each other, LOL). My house is never quiet.

My Aussie's current and past do circles everywhere. They do laps around the couch. Whether it's with a toy in their mouth that they think somebody wants, yet nobody cares! When going to the bathroom 30 circles are necessary before finding the exact spot. Before sitting as I ask they have to do several laps around me. When a new car comes in the driveway they have to do circles around that car to make sure it's okay. Before lying down they have to make several laps around their bedding before finally resting their tush. When plane everybody has to make circles around each other. When I try to keep track of them my eyes start going cross-eyed. There's only one that is smart enough to go left or right cutting them off. Even as I bath them they're doing circles in the shower or I have to tell them would you just stand still! God forbid when they're let loose on the Acres the Run, I just let him go and sit down. Because when they run they get speed and they go in circles that I cannot keep track of them. They'll come up from behind me, knocking me over in their excitement. They just want to show Mama how fast they are!

The dachshund is spot on!!!! Daschunds are among the top (10) hardest dogs to train because they'd rather do their own thing. A daschund won't do a damn thing for you. My late doxie Mami was sweet but stubborn. You're on your own with a doxie!!!!

​. Oh, I don't think she's silly. She just takes her job of protecting her people very seriously. I worked with a woman who had a rescued Dobie. I was warned about making sudden movements around him until he could sniff me and the people told him I was a friend. After that, he'd sit next to me and lean against my legs and, if I started petting him, he'd roll his head onto my lap and make little, grunting sighs. He'd try to climb into his "dad's" lap, although he was full grown and had legs for days and acted all goody\clumsy. One day, I finally got to experience how he got his name. The postman came to deliver the mail thru the mail chute in the front door. "Shotgun" hit the door so hard, it sounded like a gunshot (and cracked the door). That was the second solid wood door Shotgun broke. They switched to metal doors after that. He was the smartest, sweetest, most loyal dobie I've ever met. I would get one, myself, if I could.

I used to work for the mail. This is spot on. I had so many strange and funny dogs on my route. Like a chihuahua without teeth that was convinced he was very scary and a crazy Sheltie who lost a tooth because he would jump up to the letterbox in the door in order to get the mail (and he kept doing it... just had do beat me to it). Dogs are amazing in their own ways.

How hard are they to train if you’re new to owning a dog? I’m trying to figure out the best dog for us.Another challenge is I’m allergic and would like a low shedding dog, and my options for a guard dog are limited hehe

@@ROXELL If you're new to owning a dog do not get a German Shepard. They aren't hard to train per se, but if you make any mistakes or allow bad behaviors to creep in, the consequences are going to be far more dire. German Shepards are like chainsaws: if you know what you're doing they're great, if you don't then someone could lose a limb. Labradoodles are easy to train, protective without being aggressive, and hypoallergenic.

I work with rescue dogs and can confirm most of these, nailed it💯 The dobie and shepherd ones especially killed me thinking about one of the dogs at the shelter who is a shepherd dobie mix 😂 my boyfriend has a shiba and i can't explain why but it's dead on. P.S. Would love to see bichon if you ever do more of these, grew up with them and never gets old seeing them somehow behave like pampered royalty and clowns simultaneously 💕
