So Mom's GSD and my Shiba were silently menacing as a salesman tried to talk his way past the front porch. The salesman didn't even look at the dogs because they were sitting silently, GSD at Mom's knee and Shiba with me and he knew nothing of canine body language. Both dogs were intensely alert and aware that we didn't welcome the salesman. They watched him fiercely, looked to me and Mom hoping we would signal them to defend us, and glanced at each other to confirm the battle plan. The Shiba was telling the GSD "If our humans say yes, you go high and I'll get his ankles. " The GSD's eyes answered, "Dude, I've got this. But if you want to tag along, go for the Achilles tendon." They were so dramatic, Mom and I collapsed in giggles when the fool left and our furbabies returned to Defcon 1. He never had a clue. I miss those dogs. Both were black and tan, so together they had a Laurel and Hardy look. 🖖✌

@@kitlee172 I got my Shiba almost accidentally. He needed to be rehomed and I fell in love without knowing a thing about the breed. I grew up training dogs and horses, but suddenly had to up my game a lot. I had never had to work so hard at convincing a dog I was pack leader. He was a darling, unusually cuddly for a Shiba. Liked sleeping in my arms and having his ears fondled, which is abnormal for Shibas. Runaway bandit if he got loose, which is a breed standard.🖖✌

My Shiba never chewed on the fence, but he did attempt to dig UNDER the fence at one point. It wasn't mail-related, though; he REALLY wanted to go look in the storm drain (it smelled weird) and we wouldn't let him. He got stuck under the fence and my mom had to help him get out. He had actually been secretly working on a tunnel under the fence for several days, it turned out; it was just all the way in the back corner of the backyard so no one could see it. Presumably because his two PREVIOUS attempts to dig under the fence failed because we kept filling in the partially-made tunnels with big rocks. We never did figure out what was in the storm drain that made it smell weird, by the way.

Rottweilers can be absolutely adorable. I met one on my route that was being walked by a small, middle-aged woman. Very sweet and gentle. :) I also delivered mail to a place with a Rottie. At first, the owners kept her tethered, so she'd just bark like mad, but then after telling me she was alright, I asked if she could get my scent. After that, she was just in the garden, and whenever I entered it, she'd come over to 'check my passport' as I liked to call it. Then she left as if to say: "Okay, you're cleared." I can understand being scared of Rotties and large dog breeds, but it's more important to check behaviour than breed, even if some breeds are statistically more dangerous than others.

I've never had close experience with chihuahuas to comment on their intelligence. I've found them to be the most aggressive dogs toward be when out running, though. My favorite is always your depiction of the Chihuahua. I've had/have 2 pure and one mixed. They are the gentlest little things until a stranger dares to enter their space. Then they become rabid terrors of all your nightmares.

Doberman was spot on. Silent but deadly…to strangers that is.

My chihuahua is the exact opposite of that, she doesn't have a single mean bone in her body, she rarely ever barks and I don't think I've ever heard her growl before. She's just pure sweet.

I was attacked and bitten by a poodle when I was little. I was just standing next to my mom at the coffee table in the garden, then *BAM* there's a dog chewing on my belly.

I grew up with a poodle and he was always very sweet to me. Otherwise he was more of a grumpy old man in the shape of a poodle.

Same! I have a pit mix now, and she has NOTHING on poodles. They were sneaky lil ninjas when it came to biting strangers…pretending to be asleep one minute, hanging off your ankle the next lol

I was raised with a poodle. She was awesome towards kids but if someone she didn't know came around she'd go guard mode. Even then all my mom had to do to turn her from guard dog to friendly sweetheart was say "it's ok girl". Everywhere that dog went she got comments on how well behaved she was. The groomers adored her. She was the best dog I've ever met. On the other hand a mini poodle tried to attack my current dog completely unprovoked. I picked my dog up and the poodle kept jumping up trying to bite my dog. I had to kick at it to get it to go away.

When I was little my grandma had a poodle with the same name as my nickname. I hated that. The dog hated me right back, and we took turns trying to end each other.

Kinda curious if he'll do a Borzoi. I only ever met one on a route, and his reaction was to freeze in fear and just stay rooted to the spot until I was gone. Met him a hundred times, and he never got used to me.

While the chaos inside the house before the husky came to the door, I half expected it to be a dalmatian. I had one as a kid and he was crazy sweet, but super excitable and completely unaware of his tail which was preternaturally strong. Uncontainably destructive, whole coffee tables full of mugs destroyed in half a second 😂

I luv the idea of the Chihuahua (a noble Aztec warrior) is now Celtic or a Norse Berzerker. Hysterical. Border Collies have that really bossy stare in addition to the cat like moves.

These were lovely. As a former owner of a schnauzer standard that have two friends one with a mini and one with a giant... I can tell you that each of them sizes are quite different in character. The giants are clumsy gentle Giants, the minis are hyperactive bundles of dynamite, and the standard, at least mine, was very quiet and fond of sneak attacks... story time: one time my uncle came home to visit. We couldn't meet at my house until quite late,but he had the keys (long story) so he went to my house left to buy something to eat then came back. And locked the door. The house is pitch black until you switch the light. The moment my uncle locked the door he felt something hurting his right arm. It was my pet. It seems that I had left him inside and he decided until what he perceived as a robber was locked in to attack. Both my uncle and my dog were okay. Afterwards

Our rottie was different, he liked people they were good for pats and attention. He figured out he was allowed to have people over but only mum and dad could give them permission to leave, you could get in, he would not let you out without a good bite and shake. If you open the door with keys you could leave because he figured out you already had permission cause you had the keys.

We had one when I was a kid and her initial training was by my sister who worked with drug dogs in the USAF. Very sweet and even tempered dog. The only person she didn't like was my uncle and it was entirely his fault for taunting her and being a general prick. One day he was coming into our house through the attached garage where she happened to be. She went around the car and was sneaking up behind him VERY 'intently' when she was sternly told "NO!". My uncle had no idea she was even there.
@stomujones3747 Жыл бұрын
@@realityquotient7699 It is very humbling to know that my two GSDs could probably kill me at any given moment. That is why they always get treats right before bed. If they are going to sleep next to me, I want to be on their good side. My brother once jokingly punched me in my arm during a visit, and my male GSD, who knows him very well, still got in between us and growled at him. Ever since, he has never tried doing anything like that again.
@ruthcaperchione41034 ай бұрын
My brother's GS-rottie dog was like that. She would "protect" us from school children, other dogs, the wandering neighbourhood cat (which we were happy about), the garbage men, mailmen, delivery drivers, girl guides with cookies (😞), people evangelizing, and a very frightening young robin (it dropped the worm in its mouth on the porch and took off).
