I came back and looked up a stat that is interesting. The land area of the British Empire is 35,500,000 kilometers squared, which would make a sphere 3362 km in diameter. Earth's moon has a surface area of 37,900,000 kilometers squared and a diameter of 3476 km. That makes the British Empire in this map almost as large as the Moon. If the 13 American colonies plus East and West Florida were added, as they were once British territories, the British Empire would be larger than the moon. This was a very cool representation.

The imperial period was a phase of Brazilian history that began in 1822, when Brazil became independent, and ended in 1889, when the Republic was Proclamated. During this period, Brazil was politically organized as a monarchy, being governed by an emperor. His name was quite big, by the way: "Pedro de Alcântara Francisco Antônio João Carlos Xavier de Paula Miguel Rafael Joaquim José Gonzaga Pascoal Cipriano Serafim de Bragança e Bourbon". Yes, that was his full name!!! 😄
@Obi-WanKannabisАй бұрын
@@evanlovesbacongames161 there are many maps of the lands claimed by Portugal back in the day, they were actually bigger than the current land of Brazil. Only some cretin revisionist on wikipedia uses the treaty of tordesillas to cut off the actual size of the empire, even though they dont apply that treaty to literally any other empire that would be affected by it. It is stupid since literally everyone ignored that treaty after a while.

A slight correction: in 1867, after less than a month of negotiations, the United States accepted Emperor Alexander II's offer to sell Alaska. The Alaska Purchase for $7.2 million (equivalent to $157 million in 2023) ended Imperial Russia's colonial presence in the Americas. On May 15 1867, the United States Senate ratified a bilateral treaty that had been signed on March 30 1867, and American sovereignty became legally effective across Alaska on October 18 1867. Your map of the "Russian Empire (1895)", at 4:27, shows Alaska in red indicating it is part of the Russian Empire at that time, but it certainly was not.
