Right? If we all just went to the Bible to see what God says when we do not agree. When I said I wanted to raise my kids in christ one of my friends said "but remember you need to let them know that they can still choose whatever seems like truth to them" and my thought was "but that would be like saying I don't TRULY believe in God" (my God the one and only God)
@marybeth232 жыл бұрын
Agree 100%. I asked my daughter what she was going to teach her kids about God. Her response was "I'm going to let them choose what they believe". What a dangerous and potentially deadly attitude. It's like throwing them into the world of ravenous wolves. My husband and I teach them about God's love and His Son. Our influence, with God's grace, will win.

If what you believe is true, and you raise your children to be intelligent and wise enough to think for themselves, then they should inevitably come to the same conclusion as you. Without needing to force the truth onto them. It means much more for them to choose to follow God of their own volition, than it does for them to be led down that path with a leash and collar by someone else.

Something I tell my students: if someone claims that they believe truth or morality is subjective/relative, take their wallet. You’ll quickly find that they don’t actually believe that claim.
@ManoverSuperman2 жыл бұрын
That’s not a good defeater, and not the “gotcha” you think it is. Even if morals are ultimately subjective, our reactions to certain actions done to us are not, including being stolen from. And it is in large part from those icky and angry feelings that we create the dictates of morality. Slapping on the word “objective” is just a form of verbal witchcraft; it doesn’t do anything. But if you can at lest reasonably show why societies should adhere to certain conditions and moral laws for the common good, including the individual’s good as well, that suffices to ground morality in utility at least.

Good job, Melissa!! I laughed a couple of times at the irony in “their” interaction, but I also felt sadness thinking of the many ways Satan devises to keep people trapped in their sinful patterns of thought. People accept that because as you pointed out, in that way they can avoid dealing with the “inconvenience” of objective truth. It is also curious to see how buzz words will differ in different groups, but they all end up meaning the same thing. For example, in Mormonism, instead of the “it’s my truth” thing, it becomes “it’s just your interpretation.” But at the end of the day, it all translates to “Me-ology.” 😥

I would like to ask, "do you think your epistemological faculties work differently than other people in such a way that you, as Chrisitan, are not living your own truth while everyone else in the world is bound to do so?" Or put another way, as a subjective individual, with desires, thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations, "how can a person, including yourself, do anything other than live their own truth?" My thoughts are mine. My desires are mine. My feelings are mine-"do you have a way that this subjective reality is different for you?"
