This is called the compatibilism view, btw. Very confusing, yet the most coherent way to explain sovereign God and our free will. On the other note, It's exactly that He is sovereign, that we need to pray. If God doesn't have control over us, we should stop praying and sort it out with the people we have problems with ourselves. For example, if we want our family to convert, we should just talk, discuss, convince, whatever it takes to make them believe instead of praying to God. But faith is indeed from God, and through our prayer, we witness God's will be done on earth. Whether we like His will or not is another story though.
@P___Ara3 жыл бұрын
I think the best way to answer this would be to first ask “Do you know what prayer is?” Prayer from my perspective is a relationship of you knowing Him and Him knowing you(you knowing who your father is..and it’s also feeding the soul) . Its you asking and Him providing but through your faith and trust he grants! God wants to bless all and save all! “For whoever call on the name of the Lord will be saved” he’s a provider, a listener and a just God...there is a point in a prayer..but like he said “our free will does affect the will of God” So keep praying and praising!

@Jbr20053 жыл бұрын
This is one of those questions that only God can answer. We can only see things from a very limited perspective, while God can see things from all perspectives. One thing we do know from the Bible is that Satan's rule will not last and that Jesus will put an end to him and all sinful things. This earth will melt with fervent heat down to the elements the Bible says. So there is coming a time when nothing that was sinful will remain. While we don't know why God does certain things, He has guaranteed that Jesus will have a kingdom that will never pass away and those that are forgiven through Jesus's sacrifice will have a part in that kingdom which will have no more suffering. See that's what Atheists don't get. If they are right then this is the best there is. If Christians are right, the best is yet to come.

If Satan was destroyed, there would be no temptation whatsoever, only goodness and bliss will be left, that is true. However, without the ability to sin, people would not have the free will to choose God for eternity, then they would be forced to be obedient because there is no other alternative. Since God is love, and love must be freely given, He grants free will to everyone, including Satan, because the choice we make now affects the whole eternity upon resurrection. Resurrection occurs at the end of times, when people will worship the Antichrist and when God will put an end to being distant and not with us. I don't think you addressed the question very well, Frank. It is a very interesting question of why praying when God will do what He wants. Well, I heard once that we should pray in order to show God how much we want something or how much we care about something, like the tale of the woman who claims for justice to the unfair king, and the king concedes the woman what she wants in the end. I think we pray to do that, to show God how much we want and care about something, and we mostly do it for ourselves, perhaps, to keep connected with that matter and be reminded that God is in control. Also, we don't have to pray just to ask for stuff, but also to just talk to God and ask for example how is He doing, just like we talk with friends. Still, a very interesting question.

Frank is making stuff up, surely:- "God gets his will done through our free will. And only a sovereign being can do that, because he's so sovereign that he can get his will done through our free will. And he gives us the dignity of causality to actually affect time and eternity. Yes he he is control and if he were to take away his hand from this universe and from us, we'd go out of existence. But that ... does mean that he works through our free choices." It sounds like God's continually having to fiddle with things because our free will means that God has to re adjust the universe in order for his own free will to work out according to his plan.

God is not in “control” ... but God is in charge. We were given dominion over this earth. It’s is for us to speak over and change if needed. Prayer is a conversation between you and God...no Moore than you would have between you and your earthly father. Except to let God know how much you love Him and praise Him...for what He has already done. Jesus “Christ” did it ALL for us . We just have to realize it and believe it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Then use the power within us (the Holy Spirit) to change our world for the better.

@@macumus What I'm saying is you don't "change his mind" through your prayers. He had it in mind before you even prayed for it AND since it was already his will, you prayed, not the other way around. For example, suppose a person had cancer and he prayed to be cured and he was cured miraculously. It wasn't cause he prayed and made it god's will to cure him that he was cured. He was cured cause it was already in God's will to cure him and because of that will, the person prayed. That's what being omniscient means, since an omniscient being already knows everything and already has perfect judgement, you can do NOTHING to change his will.

The thing I disagree with Frank about is that he puts human free will as preeminent. GOD'S WILL is preeminent in all things and HE is able to turn the hearts of Kings and lesser men which ever way He chooses (Proverbs 21:1, Psalm 105:25) The Lord can allow us to continue in the path we have chosen, which is HIS will, and therefore we will be responsible for our own sin. OR The Lord can choose to re-direct our hearts toward Him and therefore, HE get the credit for the good "choice" we have made to seek Him. The ONLY will that we have apart from The Lord's intervention is the will to do evil We can no more choose to do God's will than a rattlesnake can choose to have the disposition of a kitten. Our NATURE is the problem and we cannot change our nature. GOD must change it. "Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil." -Jeremiah 13:23 " I WILL give you a new heart and I WILL put a new spirit in you; I WILL remove from you your heart of stone and I WILL give you a heart of flesh." For anybody that thinks you have to "stop sinning" or be a "good person" or "repent of your sins" to be saved, this is for you, you're confused on a fundamental part of the Christian faith, it will change your eternal destination if you believe it. There are times in human history where God deals with different people in different ways called dispensations. And Paul says we are in the dispensation of Grace thru faith. Why? Well, let's start with Abraham. Abraham was justified by his faith in God. Moses was given the Torah/Law/Commandments and you had to follow it to go to Heaven and when you sinned you would have to sacrifice a lamb to cover that sin. Jesus Christ tells us that He came ONLY to the Lost sheep of Israel, which are the Jews, preaching the Kingdom Gospel trying to set up His 1000 year Millennial Reign as King, which they denied and killed Him. Jesus expected the Jews to not only follow the Torah/Law/Commandments, like Him, but added to it, essentially making it harder, but they rejected Him and killed Him. Jesus, after His death and resurrection went to Paul and REVEALED how salvation works today, which is by faith alone in His Blood Atonement. If you go anywhere in the Bible for salvation besides Paul's Epistles, which are the books Romans thru Philemon, you WILL pervert salvation, lower the power of Christ's Blood which is an absolute abomination and go to Hell. Jesus Christ took the punishment in our place, we have NOTHING to do with it besides giving Christ 100% faith in what He did for us and when you do you are sealed with the Holy Spirit, given Christ's righteousness and can never lose salvation. Scripture time!😁😁 Let's start with the Gospel of Salvation: KJV 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: KJV Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. KJV Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. KJV Romans 3:22-26 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. KJV Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. KJV Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: KJV Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. I hope you put your full trust in what Jesus Christ has done for us because He is the Way, Truth and the Life and no one will get to the Father except THRU Him! God bless you!

@@ElliottWong2024 He basically says that God is capable of performing His Will through our free will, i.e., through our words, actions, etc., - and that includes an act of prayer on our part. So if we pray, God can use our act of prayer as a channel to achieve something He wants. Praying, in the truest sense, is the *privilege* of being a gateway through which God's power flows to get His Will done. God wants us to enjoy this privilege - this is the only reason He has created the need to pray.
@john4elohim3 жыл бұрын
@@1541965 Not sure where you're getting the idea that we don't have free will. The verses you've quoted, you are not taking them in the correct sense. *John 5:30:* _"I can of Myself do nothing."_ --> Jesus said so simply because He had chosen complete, utter subordination to His Father. Read _Philippians 2:8._ He *chose* because He had free will. We might not have chosen to inherit Adam's sin nature. But if something is forced upon us, it doesn't cancel out the existence of our free will - similar to how robbing a man doesn't make him a automaton. He will still hate the act of robbery. *Romans 9:15:* _“I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”_ --> Shows us God's sovereignty. I don't see how this supports your argument. The sovereignty of God doesn't override free will.

If through belief and petition one can alter and change reality this would more indicate that god is the creative principle of the universe personified in the bible as god the father. Quantum mechanics shows how we view something changes its structure. "The Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people." Moses made Yahweh repent (Exodus 32:14 RSV)

Commands, or encourages? There is a huge difference. I once had a preacher tell me that I was in sin for not wanting to have children because "God COMMANDS me to procreate. Be fruitful and multiply." So, I sent him a box with a doll in it with a note that said, "Next time this will be a live baby on your office doorstep since the LAW of the land says that churches are a safe haven for unwanted kids so that they dont end up in the dumpster!" Any advice would be greatly appreciated brothers and sisters. I'm suffering from severe anxiety and depression to the extent of suicidal ideations. I believe in Heaven and Hell, I also believe that My Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ has paid the debt of my sin for me. But I have done things in this life that are so abhorrent (things I can never put right or make up for) I just can't see how I can ever hope to make it to Heaven. My soul, mind, spirit and body are on fire in absolute anguish.
@simon_ammi3 жыл бұрын
The things that you have done that are so abhorrent.. He paid for those too. The starting point is just for you to accept Him. It's not up to you to change yourself, Let Him in and He'll work on you. Darkness cannot withstand in the presence of Light, He is the light, once you let Him in darkness will automatically fade away. We all have done things (and we still do as a matter of fact, Christ came and set the bar so high, for example just being angry at your brother is enough for judgement) No human being can ever reach that kind of perfection but through Him we are made perfect. There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. If the things you did were harm against another person, make sure your heart is right with that person(s) Matthew 5:23 23So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. After your heart is right with man, make sure it is right with God. Acknowledge the sin and repent sincerely and leave it to Him. Take your burden to the Lord and Leave it there. I'm not well versed on anxiety and depression, but I believe that He is the God of all flesh, there is nothing too hard for Him Jeremiah 32:27 pray about it and seek medical attention and all shall be well.

@@simon_ammi Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it more than you know. What if it's impossible to make it right with the person ( say they've passed on or cannot be traced) should you just take your burden unto the Lord and have faith in what Jesus did?

@@chequehook68 You're much welcome. The direct reply to your question is 'A big yes'. See, friend, what is more of significance? Is it the deed or the motivation behind the deed? What will an all genuine God who sees the intricate part of our hearts look at as of most importance? The answer is: The heart, the motivation behind the deed. That is the foundation of now what you'll go ahead to do outwardly. And for this case I believe your heart is in sincerity saying "Sorry". It is unfortunate if the person is not within your reach such that you can meet with them and make them know the position of your heart. But the good news is, we have a just God. He cannot take that against you. Friend, you are forgiven much. Much more than the scope of the guilt of your consciousness. Jesus Christ did not just bear your 'falling short' (sin) He also bore your guilt with Him (see Heb 1:3, AMP) and declared you free. Whoever the Son sets free is free in deed - John 8:36. @Cheque Hook, let these truths of the New Covenant renew your mind, start seeing a God who is smiling at you and calling you His beloved child because Jesus has done a perfect work for you.
