Wasn't Goku's purpose for going to Earth practically retconned in the Super Broly movie? Bardock sends him because he fears Freiza will dispose of the Saiyans soon so he picks a planet he feels Goku will be able to survive in and even tells Gine that if his hunch in wrong he'll immediately go to retrieve his son. Although you could maybe make the argument that since he's a Saiyan and their race's purpose of conquering planets and being warriors doesn't change in the film that Goku would've instinctively took over Earth on his own accord. The Saiyans are depicted more human-like because they're not just cold hearted killers they have dreams, passionate feelings, etc.

Goku probably also knew to take advantage of his zenkai boosts at that point and probably used it as much as he could. If he never lost his memory, then he would have likely known most of his physiology (which is apparent that he does if he's utilizing the Oozaru form to kill humans). I'm actually more surprised the Red Ribbon army didn't find a way to stop him. I mean, imagine if Gero had tried to use his androids/cyborgs to try and take out Goku.

There’s no way Kakarot would have been able to take down Roshi. He was only able to keep up with him at the world tournament AFTER receiving his own Turtle Hermit training. That's only according to the latest retcon in the latest movie. The explanation for the last 30 years was different though and this story is based on the old lore (because the movie did not exist at that time) Before the dark times began it was different though. Before the age of Retcons, the protagonist's origin story was different.
