“If he wanted to he would” can be interpreted in soo many different ways I agree with what Christine was saying but another way that I took it was that if a girl was in doubt of the guy she’s with, weather she’s questioning his loyalty or commitment to her etc then she should look at his actions that ultimately reflect if he truly cares for example: if he wanted to spend time with you he would.

I think the line "if he wanted to he would" originated from women who HAD been communicating their needs to their man, but were ignored or the man would just outright do the very bare minimum and unconvincingly act like it was a chore. At least, thats how i perceived it, bc when the line was going around in thr beginning, it was mainly married women in long marriages who felt completely left alone by their spouse. Over time, it filtered to the rest of the community and began to be translated as "just fcking read my mind duh" xD but i do believe that in the beginning, it was gear towards "put effort towards the people you claim you care about"

Personally I agree with sage here I also have traditionalist values. I think after seeing so much toxic hookup culture in media, I have come to a realisation that marriage is not how much love you have for someone, it’s more of a mutual commitment. You could love someone so much but if you don’t have trust, commitment and a friendship with its them, it’s unlikely to last. I think that commitment for most people to come with age. I’d much rather date someone who sees a potential future with me rather than someone who just dates in passing

my opinion on if he wanted to he would: i think some girls do have the expectation that if their bf wanted to do something for them (get them flowers unprompted, etc) they would do it, however i think that is not totally 100% fair to think depending on the situation because some guys may just be on the shyer side or might need a push to do something bc they aren't used to being in a relationship. i think "if he wanted to he would" should moreso apply to when the girl communicates something to her bf, and he listens to what she says and follows up on it rather than acknowledging it but doing nothing. for example, the girl says she needs words of validation to her bf and he starts to more often say how much he appreciates her etc. compared to a guy who hears what she says but dismisses it and does not work on addressing it in their relationship moving forward

For me “if he wanted to he would” applied to things we’ve talked about and my s/o hasn’t followed thru on or like things that would kinda lose some of their meaning if I had to tell them to do it. For example, if I had to tell them to plan me a surprise date… it loses some of its value , in my opinion.
