I have not used that lens but I know a lot of people that have. That lens is surprisingly good. I have had my R7 since launch. I also have the R5. The R7 has its quirks but the image quality, battery life, feel, are great. One thing people forget is that if the R7 was full frame it would have an 83MP sensor. I have used the Sigma 150-600 C, RF800 f11, RF 100-500, and the RF 200-800 on this camera for wildlife photography. Since I shoot mostly birds at fairly close proximity the fact that none of these lenses have a fast aperture doesn’t affect me. I am often closing down to f11 or f14 to get the whole bird or two birds sitting by each other in focus.

I have this combo and it’s amazing, especially as the sort of person who brings a camera to hike up a mountain. I’d love the 100-500 but the 100-400 is way more reasonable for size and weight for adventures.

Great Video thank you! But im considering the Sony A6400 and the Tamron 18-300. What do you think about this setup in comparison to your setup as seen in the Video? Im excited to hear what you think!

I’m unfamiliar with the autofocus system on the A6400 and if it’s good for wildlife. If wildlife is your main goal, the 300mm might be a little limiting in most circumstances. The sigma 100-400 is $200 more and would probably be a better bet.

Nikon D500 + Nikkor 200-500 F5.6 is still hard to beat. You can get both for 2 grand used in decent shape.

i think the 200-500 lens might end up providing better images, but the animal eye detection is hard to beat.

No reach.

it's 640mm Full Frame Equivalent. That's plenty of reach.
If I was starting out in photography from 0, this is what I'd do in 2024.
