I used the Kaiweets HT208D clamp meter as my only meter for 2 weeks to see if it could be the ultimate all around meter. How did it go?

Nice to see a meter review based on a couple of weeks real use. I have a clamp meter, and hadn't thought of using the clamp to hold it up, great idea!

You'll find yourself doing that all the time now :) And yeah, I can give some first impressions, but it takes real use to find all the quirks.

Good to know! Thanks for the video. I am still using my harbor freight freebie meter and once that poops out, I think I’ll get the meter shown.

I hope you like it. I did manage to kill a HF meter once. Was just doing a standard AC measurement in an outlet and it popped. Other than that one, they've all been good.

This model also gives you inrush current reading. Don’t think the cheaper model does.

The loZ is a low impedance voltage measurement. It is extremely handy to identify "ghost" voltages. It adds a load across the circuit being tested and then measures the voltage. It's like using an LED test light versus an incandescent one.

Don’t currently have a clamp meter, and I just started working on large scale DC distribution - tons of amps. Might have to grab one of these. Thanks! Great video

They are pretty accurate meters. I use one every day in the field. My only complaint is that the selection knob gets worn out from lots of use. If you use it a lot, you may need to disassemble it and lubricate the knob and contacts.

Is this suitable for testing thermocouples in the 20-30mV range?

Hi thanks for this. I have a question, does the Kaiweets HT118 multimeter do anything that this clamp can't?

Love the Kaiweets meter displays, my Majortech (Fluke) MT100 is 14 yrs old now back light (that is not persistent is so dim and the display is scratched from all the use and travel. What was the automotive one you moved off screen?
@AnotherMaker
@AnotherMaker 2 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking the automotive one was that scope meter. It also has a signal generator. I don't use it very often, but it's pretty handy to have.

The added range lock option on the 208D is a major plus over the 206D, and just that alone is enough to make it well worth the added cost. The auto range makes it impossible for the 206D to use the min max feature when the readings span two ranges. Also, if you're making multiple readings of a known range, locking the range makes the process much faster than having to wait for it to step through the ranges every time. Try screening a bag of resistors in auto range and you'd appreciate the rapid acquisition. Auto range meters have their advantages sometimes, but it's rare that I'd prefer it over manual range selection for most of my uses.

You're absolute right. I almost always immediately take mine out of auto ranging.

I shudder at the thought of shunting 1000A through a meter. Would like to see a demonstration of that!
@AnotherMaker

Well, it's not like you're poking the probes in there. It's not really any scarier than doing anything else in the box.

@@AnotherMaker I should reframe this: What device draws 1kA? Like an HVAC? Is it AC or DC? What is the gauge of the wire involved? How long do you measure it?
@markmd9
@markmd9 Жыл бұрын
At 12v - not scary
@MrDeviousdom

@@GnuReligion The clamp meter simply measures the magnetism generated by the flow of current. If you clamped it to a wire that had 10,000 amps, it wouldn't read properly, but it's of no safety concern. It doesn't matter how long you read the current for, you could leave it clamped on all day and nothing will happen. Unlike most clamp meters, this meter allows for DC current measurements as well as AC. Industrial welding draws many amps as well as diesel engine starting circuits to name two examples for you.
@GuyFromJupiter
@GuyFromJupiter Жыл бұрын
If you use the inrush function the measurements can read way up there on larger motors like 100-150 HP motors.

You are using the NCV wrong. Please refer to the manual. NCV probe is in the right prong only.

That small bulge on the right side jaw of the multimeter is sensitive and is used to measure NCV

Unfortunately it's essentially useless for what ncv testers are usually needed for, because it has poor discrimination.

Yip I have 2 UNI-T clamp meters and, I have to admin, one reason I bought clamp meters was so I could clamp them to various things, leaving both hands free to manipulate the probes. I'm sorry but no device should have the words "Digital Multimeter & Bluetooth Speaker" on it, like that ANENG AN-888S. It's like having an ambulance who's crew are dressed like clowns, complete with red noses, water squirting flower, and comically large shoes, it just does not inspire any confidence... 🤣🤣
@AnotherMaker
@AnotherMaker 2 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of people do some high end testing on that Aneng and it is surprisingly accurate. They could have put some of that BT effort into the speed though. The speaker is a weird gimmick though. It's kind of funny because I use it for working on computers so every once in a while I connect one of those 1/8 to BT adapters so I don't have to hunt up regular speakers on that desk. I would rather it have a line in though. Although it probably wouldn't be isolated, so.... :)

haha. I know it seems like a youtube trick, but I really did have a month where I needed to travel a bunch and I thought it would be a fun challenge to just use this meter. I took it to my friend's bus, and to south florida, up to NJ, a factory in PA. I had no idea if it would work...and in the bright sunlight it wasn't awesome. And sometimes it was clunky, but I legit didn't use another meter for a month.
