I like how u look at a major as position one ! .... my light came on when my son told me go back 3 frets on low e ( to f # ) from the traditional a minor position 1 .... then u simply land on the a as your “ root” to be in a major ..... it’s all about “ Intervals and basing stuff on chord shapes ..... then u have a pallet to be YOU !

SHAPES LOL.I learned all this on my own but it took longer. I've Been playing 40+ years. All this to me is confusing and your not supposed to think when you're playing guitar. Its feeling emotion: JIMI Hendrix Never knew SHAPES: BECAUSE the word "SHAPES" wasn't used in those days. I have no idea what notes are called which I am soloing ,,, but I know what chord the song is in. I can keep up with guys like Eric Clapton he doesn't lose me:and I've played with Buddy Guy and long as I hear the song in my head I can play it( 90% of the time)and knowing the root 1st then it all comes together very easily for me. I was fortunate enough to have worked & jammed w/ NUGENT: Buddy: Doyal Bramel ll. Talking with SRV being around better players always helps.

I have tried teaching this to numerous people over the years. Pretty much exactly what you have here. I am now just going to refer them to your video instead of me sitting down with them. At the end of the day, most people just don't put the work in. I always add to my students that they need to memorize every note on the 5th and 6th strings as those are mostly the root notes for building these chords.
@BrettPapa5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out and for the referrals!
@larrygeetar93095 жыл бұрын
Guitar playing is about shapes and patterns, and how they recur up and down the neck, in every position except when using open strings. Even then it's true as long as you consider the nut as a barre or a "zero fret." The principles are the same but because of the open strings, finger usage (or non-usage) is a bit of a curve ball. The CAGED System makes total sense but can be confusing when explained verbally. I think sometimes people see it as "paralysis by analysis," but by showing examples while describing how the chord shapes work, it becomes more easily understood. Well done! It really does unlock some doors to more creative playing.
