50% OFF MIXING MAJOR AND MINOR COURSE HERE! SALE ENDS TUESDAY AT MIDNIGHT: www.brettpapa....
Jam Track Link Here: www.brettpapa....
In todays #guitar #lesson we go over step two in our guide to mastering mixing major and minor #pentatonic scales together to use when soloing. In the second step we cover how to combine the major and pentatonic scales by using our minor boxes as the framework for our lesson and then injecting the major pentatonic scales inside of that. It's crazy just how many options this opens up in our phrasing. To make sure this isn't just a new scale pattern to run through aimlessly we go over some creative ways to use the new patterns all while keeping the most important step first and that is keeping chord tones in mind. Without the chord tones there is no melody! Strap yourselves in this is gonna give you the tools you need to thrive in this new phase of your playing.

I just purchased the course and it truly is a great course. I'm really new to this. The question I have is if you start in A minor, to play A major do you basically fall back to the 3rd fret and play the exact same scale and if i start in a different box of the A minor would i drop back on the same concept? 3 steps back. Not sure if I'm wording this right, but thanks for your time.
@BrettPapa
@BrettPapa 2 жыл бұрын
I think I know what you are implying. So if we are in minor box one dropping down 3 frets will take you to the same shape in major. So minor box 1 starts on the 5th fret and major shape one would start on the second. However if you are in minor Shape 1 major shape 2 would be inside of that. It's broken down in the course in greater detail but that is the basic idea.

B PAPA, SRV would outline chords using shuffle pickings and instead of landing chord tones on the shuffle on the strong beat/down beat he would land them on the off beat/weak beat to create this western smoke train effect like a FLAT TIRE effect. The key point is landing those non-chord tones NCT or chord tones on the weak beat/off beat but making them sounds good using that flat tire shuffle effect and outlining the chord during the shuffle. He is mixing major pentatonic and minor pentatonic during the shuffle notes. Try to make a video lesson about this

I just plug into a Boss EQ with a very slight mid and gain bump straight into a Marshall 1987x with some verb and delay in post. Pretty simple setup. Pickups are Lollar Specials. @BrettPapa

I try to have a general idea as much as possible so that I can resolve the phrase I am playing. Often though I try to just think about what I am hearing in my head and how to get it out on the fretboard. After a while you just become more familiar with how it all works and then go on auto pilot.

Love your lesson. If I can suggest, give some "space" between your licks and it will make them nore stand out. Just like when you talk, you need to give some spaces (pause) for your audience to digest and opportunities for you to breath. Thanks for the lesson. Cheers from Indonesia.

Brett nobody as ever answered this question why is Pentatonic Box one called that. It contains the Em shape chord and the G major shape chord in the CAGED system.I can see calling it shape 3 or 4 but not one?
@BrettPapa
@BrettPapa 2 жыл бұрын
Usually it's because of the note it starts with. Minor box one starts with the root note. In the major pentatonic it is usually box two that is considered the starting point. However for simplicity sake I just call box 1 box 1 wether it is in major or minor. It is more of a shape thing for me rather than the theoretical approach.
@Shredsofeden
@Shredsofeden 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrettPapa Thanks Brett your a great teacher.What most people box one I call box three.I go according to the GIT system when I graduated from Berklee and started teaching most students found their system way to complicated.So then I found the CAGED OS system OS stands for Octave Shape.Thank you Brett I really enjoy your lessons!
