I’m 22 and wanted to change my life around cause I was feeling so unfulfilled and unhappy working dead-end jobs. I met a really nice recruiter when I was at a job fair and decided to take the asvab on a whim. I took the test at a recruiters office and made an 88 and then buckled down and studied hard and made a 95 on my picat. I was so surprised because I have pretty low confidence about myself overall and I’m terrified of failure. I’m so happy cause I feel like I can finally change my life around and get out of the poverty I was born into. i dont have a really close relationship with my dad, given hes a con and grew up very rough. But when i think of a man, he is who comes to mind. He was never the teaching type, nor did I see him often. I had to figure many things out by myself, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. He is not like that. But the one thing that he taught me and TOLD me, given he rarely talks too, is that you gotta run before you can walk. I think this advice goes on par with yours, "Get out of your way." Both require a leap of faith into the unknown and doing something regardless of if its scared or not.

I graduate tech school in less than 2 weeks and will be going to Nellis AFB for my first duty station. Your videos really helped before basic, it wasn't as physically challenging but it was definitely a mental war going through basic and getting through the PMEL course which is one of the hardest in the Air Force. I am debating on whether or not to do my contract then get out or go all the way and do 20. Please keep going strong, you are helping people more than you realize.

@@Jodywithawhy I can respect the settling down for the sake of your daughter. If giving her a more stable home balance is critical. Why not switch to guard or reserves and keep going that way? @@lthughes I’m in the guard now. I switched over at the 16 year mark to an active guard position so I wouldn’t have to move. That position was a 4 year contract. @@Jodywithawhy ahh I gotcha. Well you’ve given plenty in the pursuit of service and sometimes things change when kids come into the equation. Seeing someone like you get Chief would’ve been nice. You clearly care about others and lead by example. I would always remember the military preach that you must always take care of the soldiers below you. They “come” first. Yet every time I looked at many e6-e7s plus, it became about them over their soldiers. You however seem to have kept to heart taking care of the soldiers.

Not saying this to sound arrogant or something, but I have always been "the smart dude" and rarely have difficulty figuring something out. Even so, I still have the same problems you mentioned. I go straight face, no emotion when I am bored, uncomfortable, or disappointed. I have almost every reason to be positive, yet the negativity seems to want to win. Let's see if I can train it out. I just don't get why I can do better than mostly everyone around me and simultaneously feel like I didn't do much of anything. Positive affirmation sounds so cringey. Guess it can't hurt me. I did get a 95 on ASVAB and got through MEPS without needing a waiver, so I'll look towards that as proof I can do something.

They do sound cringey until you use them and you start to see your life change. It’s so weird, but the language we use with ourselves will eventually start to show its face. Whether it’s positive language or negative language, the way people talk themselves shows through especially under pressure. Work on your language with yourself, and hopefully you can start using your gift of intelligence towards something positive. 🙌🏽

Question, what do you do if there are people close to you that regularly mentions things that you do wrong to either them or things in general that causes you to have negative thinking ? I’m stuck in an area where I have to hear feedback from my spouse which may can be a bit harsh but have to keep mental confidence in myself to change and have positive thinking.

I just wouldn’t take it personal. Before I started my journey of financial freedom, my wife was the main one telling I’m crazy for trying to be a millionaire. What I realized is that she was just projecting her own doubts on to me. Once I started getting closer to my goals, she realized I’m very capable of accomplishing my goals, and she has since stopped projecting. This is a normal behavior of people when someone they love starts dreaming big. Just don’t take it personal, go out there and crush it and you’ll see them change their tune. I hope that helps and good luck.
