Thanks for the show. I do think starting from scratch, for most people, might start with getting underwear -- panties and bras -- that fits really well AND is comfortable. It's so hard to find but worth the search and cost. And EVERYTHING looks and feels better on top of well-fitting unders.

Too funny. I am retired but during my working career as a clothes horse, I made great investments (tweed, leather, cotton, cashmere) and I am loathe to rid myself of them. They reside in lovely labelled bins. These days, I live in denim and cotton shirts and wooly sweaters. But when it comes to underwear, I am embarrassed to say, I have very serviceable but a bit travel worn underwear. It works: I wear it. I have said, though, at 73, if I pop my clogs suddenly, I wouldn’t want anyone whom I respect to see the state of them. Therefore, I am on a bit of an exploratory journey into the underwear realm. I also had breast cancer and a lumpectomy so I am a bit lopsided in the bra department and tend to like non-underwire sort of sports bra profiles. So, I am now inspired to turn the underwear page of my wardrobe to start to build a new foundation (pun embarrassingly intended) for my undergarment wardrobe. Always love your vlogs, Alyssa.

Thank you for mentioning the skirt which you don't wear day to day, but love for occasions! I have a dress like that and sometimes feel bad since the cost per wear is not as low as with more frequently worn pieces. Like you, I still consider it a foundational piece in my wardrobe! Yes, it was a bit pricey but when those occasions do come around I know I love this dress and will feel fabulous in it. So thanks for reminding me that I don't have to regret that purchase. Cost per wear isn't everything xx

I have found having that one (rather expensive) dressy dress means I don’t waste money & time struggling to find something when I am invited to a special occasion. I just go to my closet & pull out the dress I bought in Zagreb. It’s stunning & I feel great in it. No stress, just the pleasure of anticipating the occasion.

I resisted pointed-toe shoes for so long, believing they'd be uncomfortable but, in the past year, I've gotten two pairs, a flat and a kitten-heeled slingback, and I can't tell you how much they have elevated my outfits! The flats are a taupey grey, so they are pretty much a neutral, and the slingbacks are a patent nude, so they go with and dress up anything! Great video with a lot of concise information. Thanks, Alyssa! ❤

So much of your appeal is the thoughtfulness of the content. I have a very different body and style than you but I always walk away with something. Just thinking about your comments about button down shirts made me consider the neck lines I favor and why. I have always struggled with the collared shirt and the reason is I have a shorter neck and voluminous hair. A collar just adds too much weight to what’s already going on there. If I buy a collared shirt, it’s in a drapey material like tencel for denim so it lays flat. I’ve cut the collars off two denim jackets and frayed them for an edgy vibe that works for me.

Because I don't gravitate towards structured clothing. And because I am retired, the button-up shirt and blazer are really not on my radar, I am always confused trying to find alternatives that are flattering. I watched a lot of these kinds of videos because I did have to rebuild my wardrobe from scratch. It was a daunting task but I started with quality basics, jeans, shirts, shorts, skirts, plus some fun, boho type items, because that’s a style I like. Undergarments and sleepwear of course. Once I had those things in place I got things on opposite ends of the spectrum, slouchy loungewear and a few dressy pieces. I did a combination of new and thrifted. It was a challenge and I definitely made a few purchase mistakes but in the end I’m happy with my closet.

This is a great video - it focuses on what is important in our wardrobes, and filters out some of the noise! I'm so with you on the puzzle bag! I loved this from the first moment I saw it, loved that it was slouchy and understated. But, like you it was outside of my budget, so I saved and bought one preloved. You always have great advice, Alyssa. Like you, I like sharper, more tailored pieces a lot of the time and have found that denim is perfect for “dressing down” just a bit. I also love the contrast of tailored and casual. As an outlier type go-to, I would add leather trousers. Like denim, they add an unexpected element to my favorite staple: silk or linen button up. I have a POMP button up on my wish list but am not yet ready to purchase. I have a navy linen button up from Boden that I absolutely love and a white button up from AYR that frustrates me to no end but “works” for now. I have a really great wardrobe at the moment, so the only thing I’m looking to buy is jewelry and a pair of kitten heels. It’s a really great feeling to have what I like and need in my closet. Your advice has been invaluable for my collection! 😊

Hurray for Canadian brands! Over the past couple of post-lockdown years, during which I can shop local (in Toronto) again, I've discovered (or re-discovered) Canadian brands. I have an embarrassing number of Brave Leather bags and belts, Danier, Hiso and Mackage leather, wool and sheepskin jackets and coats (some I have had for 20+ years), La Canadianne footwear and bags, Fidelity Jeans, Smythe blazers, etc. etc. etc. I was in New Orleans earlier this month, dying from the unexpected heat and humidity, and felt the need to snap up some cotton dresses. I walked into a boutique selling nothing but cotton and linen frocks for the local ladies and picked out the two most stylish non-garish midis. "These are from MON-tree-yall" the salesclerk told me. "So am I," I replied. "It's my hometown." I'm not much of a slow fashion type as it's hard to find vintage in my size and suitable for my age (73) which doesn't look costume-y but I can tell you that I have quality classic pieces dating back to the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s in my closet. It pasy to buy classic and quality, and it need not be boring nor conservative.

You keep talking about your Power of my People shirts, and honestly, I'm not much of a shirt wearer. HOWEVER. This summer, I caved and bought one of their linen shirts - the Friend, in a Proper fit, as you have - in the dark green and I wore it so much over the summer months that I caved again and bought a second one, this time in the oak brown colour. Absolutely beautiful, they go with my more casual style and fit perfectly into my colour scheme; they are highly likely to be worn year-round because they're comfortable and easy and go just as well under a cashmere jumper as on their own with a pair of jeans or chinos.

I love your jeans. Where are they from? I have purchased a couple of shirts from POMP and love them. I also have the belt you created with Brave. As a fellow Canadian I try to support Canadian designers and companies. 😊

Do you happen to have a discount code for the Brave belts? They look lovely!

I would like to create a white button-down shirt cropped, but tapered to your body. It would be pleaded twice on the back, by the shoulder blade. The front of the shirt wouldn't have a sharp cut but rather a curve fitting right by the waste of your skirt, slack, or jeans.😊❤

YES! A cropped button up for us petite ladies!! Please! I'm 5'1" and button ups are just too long. And therefore too much material to tuck into our bottoms. I wish POMP included petite sizing. (Yes you can size down, but proportioning is still off for petites). Are there ANY sustainable brands that carry petites?

@HopingForever I feel you.. I have a white crooped bottom up by the Gap, but it still very bulky around the waist. It's very frustrating. I like fitted pieces when I'm wanting that specific vibe..😊❤
