Hope you guys enjoy today's video! To clarify: as many commenters have pointed out, Marie said she personally owns 30 books but encourages people to only keep books that spark joy for them. The purpose of this video was to try and help others to see that she's not bashing reading at all! She's just encouraging you to take a second look at what your have in your collection and if you really want to keep it. I hope this makes sense!

I'm about to receive a copy of the Little Prince that has been printed on a machine more than 100 years old. They only made 250 copies and my name would be in it because I gave money for them to restore the printing machine that they used to print it. I can't wait. I've been waiting for it for 1,5 years but finally it's ready and they will start shipping out the copies next month. It will be one of my most prized possessions.

ICaughtTheSnitch26 i found it funny as well that those who reacted strongly and negatively about Marie Kondo are those who haven’t read the book or watched the series. The series was basically a summary of the book. And not a good one at that. There were so many tiny details that I found really important that weren’t mentioned or explained in the series at all!

She actually just said that's about how many she has... it wasn't ever meant to be a suggestion for others but it's everywhere now... 😔 lol she's just not obsessed w/books. I mean I've met people who think even 1 physical book isn't necessary 😉📚📚 me, I'm building that personal library!
@AnimeEpisodesDutch5 жыл бұрын
Kelsey Myers I don’t think reading is not her thing, but the climate and space in homes in Asia is very limited/bad for books. That’s her main reason to not have too many books but the ones she really treasures. I think she mentioned that in an article when this meme started to blow out of proportion.
@kelsqi-books48355 жыл бұрын
@@AnimeEpisodesDutch I've never thought about that! Wow lol thinking about how tiny some of those houses are is a really good point.
@Jenbebookish5 жыл бұрын
Kelsey Myers like in any situation, to each their own right?! Regardless of what # she may or may not have chosen, she also is consistent about her “if it doesn’t start joy, throw it out!” concept! For book lovers, each every and any book sparks joy! Also like Twinkie said, the space situation in Asian countries can dictate style trends. A library might be the last thing they need or want, but I’m like you! I’ll lug 50 boxes of books w/me every time I move, my own library (a la Beauty and the Beast) in mind!
@AnimeEpisodesDutch5 жыл бұрын
Kelsey Myers and you still would be surprised how much they can store in such a small space 😂 that is why guru’s like Marie Kondo became so big in recent years as hoarding stuff is a serious issue in Asia.
@mariapiovesana73285 жыл бұрын
Haha I love that you would keep 7 copies of Alice even though you only have 30 books to keep - honestly respect for your dedication to that book
@carolines10555 жыл бұрын
Marie kondo wants you to think about whether you want to keep something because you like it or it has a use for you OR if you are just afraid of feeling guilty after letting something go. I say this because the marie kondo method is often confused woth minimalism but it's not. It's about feeling comfortable with the amount of stuff you have and appreciate and cherish your possesions. Also she wants to convey that maybe someone else will have much more use or joy for that one item you give away. So you are not throwing things out but give it a new chance to become important to someone else. I don't think 30 is an attainable amount of books for book fanatics, but for the regular person it totally can be. And the important aspect is that it's not a must if you cherish and love all your 300 books so be it.
@_echointhevoid_5 жыл бұрын
No no no, she said she personally likes to keep 30 books. Not that people should own no more than 30 books. She said you shouldnt get rid of books if it makes you unhappy.
@chibireads25315 жыл бұрын
I actually did do an unhaul after watching Marie Kondo on Netflix and it’s all about “does this make me happy” if not you would unhaul it. It’s the same method applied to clothes. And she does talk about doing a sentimental unhaul but it’s done separately because it’s so emotional and much harder to do. It’s basically organizing your space to make you happier.

I'm really happy Marie's influence is getting recognized. If only we could protect her from the backlash.. Her methods have changed my life drastically, I'm a pretty sentimental person but I was able to let go of so many things in life. I realize I get overwhelmed with clutter, now I'm trying to practice minimalism, and I couldnt be more happy. People should not take her words too critically, as she was just implying ways for us to declutter our lives, which is a must.
