No shit there I was, Central TX on Veterans Day getting my haircut. I walk in the greatclips…first person I notice? a HYPER GRAY MAN. - tactical pants ✅ - salomon shoes ✅ - trucker hat ✅ - wearing shades indoors like a weirdo? ✅ - gruntstyle shirt ✅ (only diff between this dude and the one in your videos) I assume he is carrying, and glance at his waist. He is HEAVILY PRINTING at the 3 with an IWB holster as the magazine well is sticking out like an impalement. Sad thing is I’m fairly certain I’m the only one who noticed. I’m rocking a 365 in my appendix T. rex arms Raptor (waiting to get a VELO5) with my zero belt. “Gray man” is oblivious to me as I’m rocking shorts, vans, and a normal T. Perhaps we need a vid on situational awareness, if there isn’t already one. P.S. more “gray man” content please! That shit is so funny.

Summer carry is the main problem for most people, I wish you'd focused on that more. When it's hot out you can't have multiple layers or even heavy black t-shirts. My solution these days is deep concealment with a tiny firearm but of course the draw isn't fast nor smooth. It's a compromise though between going with or without.

Hi Jeff, great video. I always recommend your videos to people new to concealed carry. I think they’re very informative. One topic I would love for you to cover his how to properly carry appendix so that it is comfortable in a seated position. That’s an issue. I struggle with and I think a lot of other people do. Especially if you’re overweight. Most videos about proper holster adjustment demonstrate the holster while standing. The problem to me really is sitting. And sitting in different heights and angles like the difference between an office chair and sitting in your car. For many people, I know the reason they don’t carry regularly is because of this challenge. Keep up the good work.

Excellent common sense answers. Great job. I'm retired, so I can wear whatever I want, which in my case is always blue jeans, t shirt, loose fitting henley shirt. For my carry, either a 5 or 6 shot snub nose 38, which I find easier to conceal than a semi-auto. I always carry, usually aiwb, unless I'm someplace where it's illegal, such as a school.

SWEATPANTS CONCEAL CARRY is easier with something like the leisure carry belt. It clips to the waste of the joggers, sweatpants, shorts, etc and then you clip your holster to it. It only really works if your pants have some way to tighten them (drawstring). It really sturdy but if you’re attempting to wear leggings or shorts with no drawstring it’s not gonna be as comfortable and it’s gonna flap around and hang down away from the body.

One year into everyday carrying, all the info and tips in this video are super helpful. Being a smaller framed guy presents additional challenges when trying to conceal and not print, especially when your carry gun size is similar to glock19 or slightly larger. I'm interested in trying out the belt you're running, I've been using the belt from Dynamis, its nylon and fastens with Velcro. Only con to the belt is you need to undo it to adjust tension.

I personally do the polo shirt in a suit look as much as possible. It's modern, chic, and the blazer (linen blazer during summer) hides everything you don't want others to see on you :D If I'm going the streetwear route, a black oversized t shirt tucked or untucked with a chain around the neck always works for me. The chain diverts the eyes from the waistline. During colder months I'm not worried at all sweaters, leather jackets etc. do the work. Any belt works tbh. Go designer belts if anything as it diverts the eyes from the holster clip if the shirt's tucked in. I stay away as much as possible from "the guy who carries" look. OD green, tan, tactical softshells, "tactical" jeans, hoodies with certain logos, certain types/brand of shoes all look like you're armed. Even plaid flannels, Hawaiians, Carhartt's are bit of a stretch too, though it depends on the overall silhouette.

Great point about deciding to be “all in” when it comes to carrying. I work in a professional environment where dress pants and button up shirts are the norm. The compromise of a small of the back tuck holster is what I choose to accept and it works well for me. It also is less prone to printing as most dress shirts tend to poof out in back through the day for most guys. The few observant around me over the years have asked about the extra black clips that are visible on my belt, but most never notice them. If they’re faint of heart I just tell them my belt is a special reinforced belt because I had belts break in the past. They never ask again. In my daily environment, the most likely threat is a bad actor somewhere pretty far away from me, so the extra second of time and effort of draw time isn’t a big risk in my case. Could also be an advantage in the crowded room scenario as I would bet I appear less likely to be carrying compared to the guy dressed in a hoodie to the casual observer (no shade, just sayin). I also include this in my range days by practicing my draw from behind my back under a tucked shirt as well as when I disarm every day by drawing with purpose.

Solid information. It took me a while to discover hoodies as a primary concealed carry garment, but now having several of a couple of different weights, they get me by 3/4 of the year. I still struggle in Summer because I'm not a big button down shirt guy, but good pants, belt, holster, and a wedge really help when I'm wearing t-shirts. I agree that a "full time carry" mentality is more efficient, but there can be exceptions. For instance, I'm retired and now a half-assed farmer, so most of the day at home, I'm in an OWB holster for comfort when doing chores, etc. (and of course don't care much about concealment). When I go to the city, I switch to clean clothes and AIWB carry, so even though I carry "full time", I still have to sort of deal with "part time" carry.

I'd like to see a video on conceal carrying when your shirt is tucked in. My job requires me to dress professionally, so that means either tucked in Polo on casual days or button up dress shirt when there will be clients on site. It also means that 5 out of the 7 days I am dressed like that. I also live in South Florida, so essentially continuous summer. I think this is the most challenging conceal carry case, since you can't wear heavy clothes to hide the gun.

For me, I conceal carry a p320 and I am in a similar situation since I wear just a button down shirt or a suit most days. I have a hybrid leather holster, I think the official name of it is 1781 custom fit holster (in size 5 or 6). Regardless, I have it modified to be in a cross draw position and the clip is close to where my belt buckle is. My belt is rather thick and the clip can hide reliability behind the overlap. The clip itself is like a L shape where there is a gap between where the clip mounts on the holster itself and the part where it clips to the belt. Anyways, I just tuck in the shirt in the gap. I do add stuff on occasionally with a vest or a blazer, but it works well otherwise. So, doing something similar might work for you. You could also look at getting a belly band, but idk a lot of it depends on your body shape and the size of the pistol.

Invest in a system like the Mastermind Tactics Covert Belt. I wear this when I wear suits and it hides the gun extremely well. It's made to wear under your clothing so you can wear clothing without a belt, or in my usage; wear a suit and carry a gun. Also, wear your shirts a little longer than normal. This way you have enough material to tuck in and cover your firearm and still give your normal adjustment for when you tuck your shirt (if that makes sense). Also, Constitne Hunter has a belt similar to the Mastermind belt and if your wanting to pay a little more, try the Enigma chassis system. It's a little more expensive and appendix only, but it's a great system if your willing to pay. Also, get a holster with tuck clips and a claw (or wing) The clips are made to tuck your shirt in over your firearm and the claw will help push the gun back against your body helping to hide the firearm even more. These are somethings I do and I have zero issues carrying in a suit.

All very valid and insightful points. I worked law enforcement for 19 years and carried concealed for all that time. I didn't know any of this and I am sure I wore the wrong clothes. But In my 19 years of carrying a gun off duty I was never "made"" as wearing a gun. Not by other cops, the public and N criminal ever made me feel like he knew I was carrying. So, We can follow the best advice or be dumb. Either way it boils down to where and who you associate with and a bit of luck. A reasonable size gun in relation to your body size is probably the most appropriate to CCW carry.

I like the video and think an important theme is to not wear any "tactical" or "operator" gear. Like no obvious stuff like 5.11 or LAPG or Blackhawk or Vertyx that doesn't look like civilian clothes. No utility pockets or magazine pockets, etc. I watched a James Reeves video about concealed carry where he is in the 5.11 store with an LAPD cop talking about gray man, and the cop looked like he had a utility belt under a too-small t-shirt. You have to take the macho out of the equation...I'm a fat old dude, and I carry at 4 o'clock with an untucked collared button front short sleeved shirt- on the looser side of fit, and patterned. Works well in the SW where I wear shorts and short sleeved shirts most of the year.

Great video! I started carrying a pistol concealed when I deployed in the Air Force. I actually got decent at carrying the M9 in uniform, and it really forced me to adapt my gear to concealment. I had no idea what I was doing but using the serpa I've come to learn that angles really make a giant difference. I'm a bigger guy now, so appendix really isn't comfortable, but I think if one is going to hip carry, consider carrying a mag carrier to help even out your profile so you don't look lopsided. Alternatively my bare minimum carry is a S&W Model 10 IWB with two speed strips that fit perfect in the lighter pocket of jeans.

I've gone back and forth between appendix and 2:3O OWB. Last couple years has been the 2:30 OWB with a Core Garrison belt and a high & tight to the body forward-canted holster - uually a Blackpoint Tactical OWB with a Sig X-Macro TacOps. It nestles under my ribs unobtrusively. A tactical style button-down with rolled up sleeves over a Underalls style power core t-shirt lets me go unbuttoned most of the time. It's gotten me through the last couple of summers. Cold weather requires a bit more creativity.

I use an IWB holster but not in the waist of the pants all the time, sometimes just inside the belt. Depends on how tight the pants are. The belt is crucial, if you are just using sweat pants and relying on the string to hold it up, it can fall out when walking. It has happened to me, but I was on a walking path with no one around, so it didn't end up being an embarrassing moment- no one saw it. The belt clip on the holster needs something to grab.

If you wear cargo pants/shorts every day like I do, going up one size doesn't have much of an effect on overall fit. Cargo pants are generally loose fitting anyway. I agree completely. As a fellow Texan, I can confirm that carying concealed is definitely more of a challenge in hot weather. Although it's still possible to conceal a full-size handgun, I normally switch to subcompact when I have to wear lighter, thinner, hot weather clothing. I gotta say, the Zero belt is deceptively effective! My first impression was that it was overpriced and too simple. After wearing it daily for over a year, I am a BELIEVER. It doesn't slip...at all... and adjustability is better than anything else I've found. The minimal material works perfectly for concealed carry in hot weather with any size gun I chose and fits better with thin clothes than any other belt I own.

Thanks for the comment. We addressed this concern in another video called, "Here's how I've not shot myself in 20+ years of carrying a gun". In that video we covered all things appendix carry. We'd argue AIWB is actually safer than carrying on the hip. 👀

I think clothing brands and accessories are also relevant to the concept of concealment. While you can wear whatever brands and accessories you want, it can be a bit of a give away if your goal is to truly remain concealed in every definition of the word. An example I frequently see out in public is people wearing "We The People" shirts, shirts/hoodies from companies like Nine Line Apparel, 5.11, Combat Iron Apparel, etc.. Patriotism is a great thing to have. There is no bashing of that concept in my head, however, that same mentality is also commonly associated with being Pro 2A. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it can be a give away to someone that may be scouting to do harm and finding targets. Nothing wrong with wearing your favorite brand. Next time you are out in public though, look around at the brands of shirts or pants someone is wearing. Are they wearing a hoodie that could be a kangaroo CC hoodie, like from Arrowhead Tactical? Are they wearing clothing that would reasonably conceal a firearm? Are they wearing a cross-body bag or fanny pack? These are all questions that someone wanting to do harm may ask themselves when scouting who to take out first. This is a great video and has loads of phenomenal tips when choosing your clothes. However, I find it important to also keep in mind how you appear in general. Another big role is how people move and interact with their surroundings. I don't think it is possible to look completely inconspicuous, be comfortable, and be effective if you are being looked at by a trained or paranoid individual. In my experience, I think it is most important to be aware of individuals fitting a CCW profile, be cognizant of possible threats, and have some healthy paranoia. Self protection is a lot easier if you just have high awareness. Someone with intent to hurt someone or steal a firearm will give more signs than you think. Hide your gun the best you can, but also be comfortable and worry most about being affective and aware. Guy number 2 in that lineup has a healthy balance of not looking overly conspicuous (with an undershirt for a t-shirt and baggy clothing) and being comfortable. If you practice having a little more paranoia and being as aware of your surroundings as possible, you will be more than well off if you are ever put in a situation requiring your firearm.

If u live in a state which has no restrictions on open carry, u don't have to worry about printing when choosing to carry concealed cuz the law basically says as long as u made a reasonable attempt to conceal the gun you're good.

Thank you for the video. My son carries a Glock 43x with a TLR-7 sub in a Tenicor SL2. He wanted to purchase an Arrowhead hoodie I told him not too because he needs to get the gun out of the holster then through the inside pocket of the hoodie and then the outer pocket of the hoodie, so that brings a chance of accidental shooting to himself and others especially if someone is standing next to him. Disclaimer we both like and use the Arrowhead 8”shorts they work great and very comfortable that’s using the same set-up as mentioned before. What is your take on this?

I print everyday and nobody notices because the general public don’t live their lives looking at peoples waistbands and automatically think “omg he’s got a gun!!” The general public are staring at their phones for one and secondly, if (and I mean IF because the likelihood of getting struck by lightning is much higher) someone were to ever point out a bulge in your waist, you can tell them it’s a medical device like an insulin pump.

What about a fanny pack carry? I live in North Texas where it’s hot as Hell's basement and humid enough to cut the air with a butter knife nine months out of the year. You won't exactly stick out if you are wearing jeans in that environment, but you also will not necessarily blend in if you are out running errands or in the stores. I would think an astute person would question why you are wearing long heavy pants in July in Texas. If I saw someone wearing jeans in the summertime here, and they didn't appear to be a construction worker, a physical labor person whose job required them to wear long pants, I would wonder why? In my previous location I lived in the desert, but it was also ranch and cattle country so seeing people in 115° heat in the summertime wearing jeans was not unusual, however, now I live in an urban environment so that rules that option out. As I said, it doesn't exactly scream gun, but it is also not the usual in that environment. Wintertime is a completely different conversation. If you are wearing 2 layers, as in a T-shirt and a button up the front shirt, you are also going to stick out a bit, not to mention sweating to death. Again, if I saw someone in this area wearing a button up the front shirt in summertime here, and especially if they had an undershirt under it, my first assumption would be that they are carrying. Not exactly unusual in Texas, but enough to make you notice. It's even worse when I go back home to Mississippi in the summertime. The humidity is much worse. I am also a college strength and conditioning coach, so my normal workwear is athletic shorts and a T-shirt. 90% of the time if I am out and about running errands or in the stores, it is directly after work, and I am still wearing my “work clothes”. It seems to me, in both those scenarios, a fanny pack carry may be the most viable option.

Any plans on giving the zero belt a tiny bit of stretch in the future? It's already a lot more comfortable than traditional gun belts, but I don't think I'm the only one who gets a bit of discomfort in the hips and back after sitting down with it all day. While the Groove Life belts aren't meant for carrying a gun as they're quite thin, the material is pretty impressive with its vertical rigidity while still having a degree of stretch.
@tenicorusa
@tenicorusa 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for dropping a comment. No plans for a stretchy belt. Stretch in your belt and good concealment are mutually exclusive. Some stretch in your pants is fine as long as you have a belt with structure.

I call it the popo pickup method. Watch a police officer drop something and pick it up. It is easiest if you step back with your dominant side leg and bend at the knee on your non dominant side, almost as if you are doing a reverse lunge.

The biggest problem is what to do if you have to take a dump in a public restroom. If you leave your gun attached to your belt then your gun will be at your ankles and people can see it. But if you take it off your belt where are you going to put it?

Most restrooms I visit have either a toilet paper dispenser that is just big enough to lay something on or they have a normal toilet with a tank. When those two things are not there, the handicap handrail can work in a pinch, but it is a balancing act sometimes. Last resort is I take a shoe off and use that as a holster. I’d rather a peeker think I’m strange for having a shoe off than see the gun. You gotta pick your battles. (I wear ankle-boot style shoes) But first. Try not to poop in public… for tons of reasons. 🙃
