Florent, greetings and salutations from the Twin Isle Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, Caribbean. I am truly grateful for these videos where it deals with core issues artist face each day. Decisions they make aren't as easy as it appears. My issues with painting often is not for a lack of ideas 💡 or material but, balancing taking care of a family does frustrate me from time to time. Almost always seems to escape me-TIME to focus, maintain and practice my craft so, yes, thanks for high lighting these issues because it's real. I am not a quitter , thank God. I am putting on foot in front of the other. It's more realistic and I can accepting of what is happening around me. God bless you Florent

Great points, great advice. After recovering from covid, I had no goals. I felt it was taken all away until a week ago, I decided to start all over. I’m working on values and beginning to paint in black and white. I did an attempt on a portrait but I need to go back and redo it to study more where things went wrong. But what is most important is I’m trying and I want to keep going. Oil painting is my life. Thanks so much for your dedication and great videos. Blessings, take care and be safe.

Oh Florent, thank you for your gentle encouragement. I hope to meet a man like you one day. My problem is my mind is blank. I’m on heavy medication and have had chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the past and more recently. So my memory and attention span is a problem.I am a very good sketch artist and I made a surprisingly good portrait in oils with no experience! My family are artists and musicians so it’s in me already. I have nervous issues so do feel panic from childhood. My time is 100% mine, a very rare situation indeed. Your list has really helped, thanks again gentle soul.

Oh yes indeed this is one of the really hard questions, because its about human consciousness - about deep experience of the creator and the one that receives - and experience can be very automatic, habituel and it can be very radical deep and limitless - and every experience is woven together with time in very finetuned ways - and expression of significance - its both perceptuel and lived in the now - but also related to emotions, dreams, Imagination and much more - its woven deeply into the mystery of life - its our symphonies of life to whisper and stream what its all about - and yes it requires courage 🎶🙃🌷❤️

I can barely get paint onto paper as I just started, I’ve just gotten back into things, drawing etc., after 30:years away from it and even then don’t really know what I’m doing. Yesterday I was going to do ink on a new paper. I shook the bottle and then decided to shake it longer because I wanted everything to be “perfect” on this new paper. The cap came off and ink flew all over! I was so shocked and i was in a hurry to get it up before stains and the nib handle was next and rinsing it in the sink I stabbed my finger and bled. Inertia! This kind of thing happens rather regularly you know? But when it comes to doing something important to you. When it’s important to do well. Im not too emotional about cooking. But art I start out with a strong desire to be better or do a really great one. Even if I know its practice I start out on an emotional level. I did a straight charcoal instead yesterday. No ink again today. Kinda like getting burned! Avoid that thing. Ha ha. It will do ME well to remember this idea of inertia and that its not a thing that happens only to me and that its not “out to get me”…..which was exactly the first thought I had. Oh my. That would be a persecution complex! No, Cynthia….this happens all the time in all different aspects….getting a piece of lint in my eye after applying the perfect eyemake up and tearing up and rubbing to clear it is not happening to test my patience determination and resolve….it just happens! ill be re watching this video. Its a little deep for me. I started a list of 5 but kinda couldnt get past number one which was “likeness” and with energy and emotion….drama….Thanks for this because I I often struggle with …..is creating art worthwhile! When you say it takes courage that really turns the light up!! I am courageous. Get used to the mountain ahead because what you said is so true….a different or more mountain always appears

Yes. You said it: "I've practiced a lot. Some of it was useful and some of it was just a waste of time." Sighs. I'm not inherently talented. I was not the 6 yr old child with crayons always in my hand which went on to the tween who constantly doodled on her notebooks. I'm just a person with a lot of emotion and strong desires who cannot seem to grasp the point of painting a freakin still-life onion.... I just want to paint. I just want to let go. But I can't. And it's dumb. I need to just lay it out on the canvasses and when it doesn't work for me, toss it and move onto the next one. I hate getting lost in theory and light and shadow and values and hues and AHHH. Yeah, I totally feel for the person whom sent the email. I want to scream but cannot. Much Respect if anyone read this to the end.
