sa nagdaang Mothers' day....is there a particular use of s' and 's.......ive noticed in the social media.....majority are using Mother's day...and not Mothers' day....
@HannaMayAbalos3 жыл бұрын
You have a point po pero here’s what I think: Mother's Day (Araw ng Ina/Nanay) kasi isa lang ang nanay natin. Pag sinabing nanay, sya yun. It is not referring to how many nanays that we are addressing. Kaya po siguro regardless of the number, Mother in singular form pa rin. Kasi yung pagiging dakila ng isang ina naman ang inaalala sa araw na yun.

If i could change anything in my life, i would diverted my negative thoughts/perception into positive.😊 I found where i got my answer in your recent uploaded video teacher. 😊 The second conditional- used “were “instead of “was” because it is grammatically in correct . And you gave an example here, “If you are the “president” what would you do? So I remembered the word were & president, i change my answer using were in our topic subject-verb agreement 😁. I therefore conclude i didn’t understand the word “conditional sentences” and i mixed up everything. I remembered in my 4th yr high school, i cried when i got 79 grade in English subject. It’s about grammar 😁 starting there i hate English subject’ but because I don’t want to have grade below 80. I studied hard to memorized not to understand.😊 What would i do not to keep remembering the past ? How could i manage my emotions? Would i just felt it and smile and take this opportunity to learn and understand?
@larrynarvaez11462 жыл бұрын
I could see why you got a 79 in your English class. Perhaps watching Teacher Myra’s videos could help you improve your grammar and your English as a whole.

Would you use a semi colon instead of a comma to separate the two clauses? The second clause is a sentence? What is the reason why "were" is used instead of "was" for a singular subject? Language is also something you learn by the ear, by repeatedly hearing the native speakers. Is this the reason why we should use "were?"
@pinayenglishteacher3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Eduardo! We shouldn't use a semicolon in those sentences. We use a semicolon to separate independent clauses. In this sentence, for example, "If I had one million dollars, I would start my own business." * "If I had one million dollars,..." is not an independent clause. It doesn't express a complete thought. It is a dependent clause. 'WERE' is a subjunctive verb in the second conditional sentence. A subjunctive is a rare verb form that expresses something imagined. We also use this type of verb in wishes, or when we use the verb "suggest". That's why we say, 'I wish I WERE a millionaire.' NOT 'I wish I WAS a millionaire.' 'I suggest that SHE ATTEND the training with her team.' NOT 'I suggest that SHE ATTENDS the training with her team.' ***SUBJUNCTIVE VERB***

Hi, Rhoy! "If I was..." is grammatically incorrect. May poetic license kasi ang songs, poems, and other forms of literature. Ang WERE sa second conditional structure ay isang SUBJUNCTIVE VERB. You might want to read more about that. 🙂
