Wondering when to use first and second conditional in English? Learn with me and hang around for the Conditionals Quiz at the end!
The 1st Conditional:
We use it to talk about things that are POSSIBLE in the future and have a LIKELY chance of happening!
IF + present simple, WILL + bare infinitive verb
EG: If I miss the bus, I will take a taxi.
The 2nd Conditional:
Use it to talk about IMPOSSIBLE present situations and UNLIKELY future situations
IF + past simple, WOULD + bare infinitive verb
EG: If I missed the bus, I would take a taxi.
Stick about for the QUIZ at the end of the lesson to practice what you learn!

Hi Emma, another great lesson, as always!! 1.- If I get the promotion, I will buy a new car. 2.- Unless I cook something without spicy, my child will have nothing to eat for dinner. 3.- supossing that I lose your dog, would you get mad of me? 4.- if I run out of coffee, I'd die (hypothetically)😂 I like the method you use to teach. Thanks again for your great dedication that you put in every lesson Emma, never stop.

Hi, Emma, long term follower of your videos, which are awesome, is it possible that you can talk about how to use nouns properly, in particular on when to apply plural form of the nouns. Such as when you refer to a noun, from what i have noticed, native speakers tend to use its plural form instead of singular. Many thanks.

Your second sentence does not use the type two conditional. It is called a Mixed conditional sentence because you used the Past perfect simple tense ( had talked...) with the Present simple as a result of the past ( would be able to afford...)

Jyothi Sithara As long as he finishes his homework, he can go out to play. If he does not finish his homework, he cannot go out to play. Both sentences mean the same idea. They are examples of “Zero type conditionals” where the first part of the sentence ( If he does not finish...) is in the Present Simple and the second part ( he cannot go out ) is also in the Present Simple. They are not 1st nor 2nd type Conditionals. First uses a form of Will, whilst Second uses Would. In the examples you can see that there are both made up without the use of the auxiliary verbs Would or Will. There are also other exceptions you need to study as well...

Jyothi Sithara As long as he finishes his homework, he can go out to play is a First conditional type sentence. You can use the “If clause” here as well and say: If he does not finish his homework, he cannot go out to play. It is the same idea. As long as you write things down, you will be able to revise ( and keep. record of...) them. If you do not write things down, you will not be able to revise or keep a record of things.

I'm curious, at the end of this video you say" if this lesson was really useful for you, then share it..." Is that sentence a second conditional? means "useful" is unreal XD

I think that is a mixed conditional, because the actions starts in the past ant it'll continue in the present (2nd C. and zero C. I think) , but I'm not sure AHAHAHAHAH

Situation#2- If I cook spicy food, my child won't eat it. Unless my child eats spicy food, I will not cook it. Situation#3- If your dog ran away, I would not look for it. Situation#4- If I ran out of coffee, I will quickly buy at the grocery. Supposing I ran out of coffee, I'll be upset for whole day. Looking forward to receiving your feedback in this regard. I love watching your channel. It enhances my English skills. Continue to share. Thank you.
