@@KZbin-Censorship-Police listen here kiddo. The only "woke" stuff you you ever see in media or on the news is individual level of treating other people like people and treating the world better than a frat party. If you think that is woke, your snowflake head would melt if they ever actually became woke and started pointing out the institutions that cement these problems into place. Everything from the yellow journalism of fox news to jerry mandering of the pathetic excuse of first past the post two party shills of a political system we have to the blatantly troublesome goals of late stage capitalism. It's worth noting that from working in fast food, I know that those drinks literally cost the company only a few cents for a large drink. Where I worked they were, from the higher ups' perspective, considered the most profitable thing we had. It's why most fast food places offer free refills on sodas in the US, because they know even if you sat there for hours drinking constantly, they probably still made money off of you.

And most chain pizza places only spend about $0.50 on making a pizza, yet they sell it for $15. Then charging $3 for a fountain soda that costs them $0.10. They make absolute bank yet they pay their workers near minimum wage
@Gamer3427
@Gamer3427 7 ай бұрын
@@02SplinterCell02 "They make absolute bank yet they pay their workers near minimum wage" That's unfortunately the case for basically any chain business, inside or outside the food industry. Though in general if you want to talk about unfair, look at any restaurant business here in the US that only pays a fraction of minimum wage to any employee that can get tips, since legally speaking if they can get tips, the company only has to pay them a small amount. This in turn means that employees get bitter towards customers for not tipping, even though tips are supposed to be a reward a customer gives them for doing a good job. Companies basically are guilt tripping customers into paying their employees instead, which also means how much those employees get is determined largely by the kindness of strangers and how much business they get in a day. This also means customers are effectively getting charged a hidden fee, (and in some cases literally since some restaraunts add a "mandatory tip" charge functioning as another tax). If an employee gets tips, it doesn't take away any money from the company because it wasn't a fee the company charged, while if an employee doesn't get tips it doesn't affect the company at all. Either way the company gets labor for almost free in some circumstances, at the expense of their employees and customers. There's a reason most foreigners are so appalled by tipping culture in the US, because it stopped being a benefit to hard working employees, and became a way for businesses to benefit at the cost of everyone else.

@02SplinterCell02 you are absolutely delusional if you think it cost him only 50 cents to make a pizza. The dough alone costs several dollars then you have the toppings which are meat and cheese which are very expensive. That's why your pizza cost at least $20 or more. Don't believe me? Go ahead and try to make your own pizza at home and put some pepperoni and bacon on it and tell me how much that bacon just cost you

Yeah prices have gotten ridiculous for movie theaters. My parents only used to go to our local theater on Tuesday's because they had a free popcorn night where you would bring your own bucket. Being cheap myself and usually only getting a large drink, pickle, and nachos I find myself spending around d $25-$30 not including the ticket lol. I remember in my intro to cinema class ( or it might have been some other communication class) a person I read about had a quote stating the movie theaters would never go out of business, as it's more a social aspect then it is about the movie. With some of the Anime releases I have seen in theaters I could definitely understand that logic, but at the same time with how expensive it is to see a movie in theaters and as Roger pointed out some are also just straight to streaming. It's become hard to argue for the social aspect when you don't see many people in the theater unless it's an extremely new release.

The landlord thing has been done to death. If you want to see something novel what you need to see is the horror of dealing with tenets. For every one bad landlord there are thousands of horrible tenets who screwed over their landlord who has to add even more rules so as to make it even harder for the nest tenet to screw them over the next time. Remember there are two sides to every story that is if you are actually hearing a real story that was not just make up to make a good story as its extremely easy just to lie on the internet. Now since you never hear the other side of the story from the landlord who that tenet tried to screw over so the tenet can get out of actually paying the landlord what they are owed. How would you like it if your job fired you owing you six months of back pay just saying I don't feel like paying you and the courts telling you well its your problem to collect your back pay as we won't lift a finger to help you that is exactly what happens to landlords every day. Thousands of bad tenets screw over their landlords out of their monthly wages every day and the courts makes it even harder for landlords to collect their wages just because their customers just don't want to pay what they owe.

As an AMC manager of many years, I applaud you. I have worked for many movie theatre companies, and AMC is by far the least competent. There is no training of employees, no maintenance budget or concern. When AMC takes over a theatre, you can be sure there will be excessive signage covering unused second concession stands and abandoned bars. You can be sure the bathroom stall doors will be "out of order", or hanging off-hinge. You can be sure there will be a concession line to the door every Friday and Saturday night, because managers are not allowed to staff properly in order to help the company save money. Also, a giant bag of popcorn kernels the size of my torso costs pennies to buy. Popcorn became a popular snack for movies because it was all people could afford to buy and sell during the Great Depression. Now we upsell it for a gazillion percent.

Most of all this is pretty accurate but it is missing some context. Ticket prices are usually so high because studios make a majority of the money off ticket sales. Depending on the studio (I.E. Disney tends to take a higher cut than say WB) and how long the movie has been showing (first week vs a month or two in), the actual theatre itself makes a pitiful amount of money from it. This is why the concessions are so expensive, theatres only way of making any real money is through the concessions which is why the prices are marked up a bit. Even without the mark up, concessions would still be more expensive at theatres than at stores due to the fact that convenient stores buy stock in bulk and therefore can sell at a lower price while theatres order stock based on predicted demand so they can't actually make any profit from marking down the prices like stores do. I'm not entirely sure about the marked up price for 3D, Imax and other display types of movies but if I had to imagine, the additional money is probably also calculated into the sale share. Theatres also have no control over the quality of the film itself which is why they sell you the experience. Especially with streaming services, the 'experience' is the only reason people go to a theatre anyway. Being in a big room with surround sound and a bunch of other like minded people to watch a huge film is why most people go to a theatre nowadays. If you want to support your local theatre, buy concessions. If you dont really care, just watch the movie at home if possible. But regardless of what you do, dont mistreat the employees. They are not paid enough to deal with your bs.

If you’re still in high school and wanting a summer job(and don’t actually have living expenses), a movie theater job is a great one. I worked at one for over 4 years, and they always let us see movies for free and gave us around 15% discount for concessions. While you work there, do your best to stay on the good side of all the managers and coworkers(you never know who will get promoted) because they might let you see movies for free even after you stop working there! The only time I pay for movies is on weekends because it’s too busy to give free seats. They usually let me bring a couple family members or a friend too. This really taught me that kindness and respect can go a very long way at any job you work at. Don’t suck up to people though, managers can always tell if you’re genuine or not. Simply do your job well and be a like-able person. Keep in mind that free movies were a part of the employee benefits at my place, so if your theater doesn’t let employees see movies for free, it’s unlikely they will let you in for free as a former employee. I’m not sure if my experience is common, but you shouldn’t really be getting on anyone’s bad side anyway. Also, if you’re an usher, checking for contraband can make your managers happy because it makes people spend their life savings on concessions. (People, if you don’t want to get caught, just hide them underneath your clothes, no bags or baby strollers. Medical conditions weren’t a good excuse either, unless whatever drink you had was sugar free.)

I'm just not into movie theaters. As mentioned, I hate paying for overpriced drinks and popcorn. If I go with my wife, we just share a small drink and a popcorn. We only went twice in the ten years we known each other and that's all because we got gift cards. There are other reasons why I hate going to the theater: - There are no breaks or intermissions at all. I always have to go to the restroom in the middle. At home, I can pause movies and I often watch a long movie over two days. It's too tiring to watch in one go sometimes. - The sound is too loud. Sometimes, I have to cover my ears when it gets too loud during action scenes. - There are way too many trailers before the feature presentation. - There are no subtitles. I often need subtitles to understand what the actors are saying.

Me and my wife we're going to see Guardians 3 last weekend, until I saw that ticket prices were $16 a piece, and a $4 "booking fee" on top of that. We said hell no, it'll be on Disney+ eventually.

In 2019 I did a movie club which gave me back a ticket each month and 20% off concessions (I just bought a hot sandwich), plus online purchasing of tickets with no booking fee and assigned seating. Nice to avoid the line at the box office. There were 9 billion-dollar movies that year, so I think it worked out, even if I didn't watch two movies per month.

she just wants you to spend as much money as possible to make her feel good about herself as you both watch a movie about what she expects from you

Usually I have the opposite happen... where I (she) insist it's fine to do something cheaper and more interactive, like chatting over coffee or something... while he insists on spending a lot of money to show off and feel better about himself. That's one of the ways I know he's not for me.

@@ToyKeeper My last first date was wine tasting. Been together for four years now. We go wine tasting a couple times a year. Wineries can be cool places to chill for an afternoon.
