I love the message of how other people's opinions don't affect who we are and we get to choose who we are! One thing I notice with people who have low self-esteem is that other people's opinions affect them greatly while people with a healthy self-esteem aren't affected by those opinions as much.

I don't like that people judge you by the clothes you wear. You into fashion: you labeled as cocky/full of yourself, that time you can be the total opposite lmao. It's hard. But thanks all the time Tom for these lessons, I am putting new morning routines to practice which has actually made me more confident and proud to be different. Other people's opinions still get to me, mainly because I believe I do everything with a good intention, but these opinions are starting to have less impact on my life . I know the person I want to become and I am fighting old habits and patterns for that person to shine. I still procrastinate but definitely far more better than I was 5 months ago. The world needs to shut down for a month or so, so I can have time to myself 😂

I was and still am a victim of emotional, mental and verbal abuse by my Ex for many years. Sadly he still continues to try and break me even though we've been separated for 2 years now. He wants a reaction out of me and all I give him is complete SILENCE. He puts me down about my looks, the way I care for our kids, my mental state and that I will never be loved by anyone ever again, he spits in my face with evil words every time we exchange the children. Even though it deeply hurts me to be reminded of it and his words cuts me every time. It certainly doesn't define me! I am a very different person now. My self respect, self esteem and self worth has grown much stronger since leaving him in 2016. He hates that I don't react or respond, he hates that I'm not fighting with him. I am only responsible for my own behaviour. I choose how I want to be and how I want to respond and react. I choose to have only positive people in my circle, I choose happiness and freedom over being depressed and sad. I am not responsible for his anger, frustrations and his perception of me. He can live in misery by himself because I choose to live life on my own accord.

"When you think you already know you stop growing" - that is spiritual 🔥🔥🔥, because the real growth means you realise how much more is necessary to grow, that you need different skills. My focus is on self-mastery because I realised that you cannot pour from an empty cup no matter how much I want to help others. That it is not about an emotion, it is about resources I can offer and I've learned to never say I know enough. What else I can learn? How can I get better? Keeping that fire burning is self-mastery for me.

100% agreed and i love this video. Sadly, I noticed majority of our current society, people nowdays, are emotionally and mentally weak af. They are so sensitive that their feelings get easily hurt and is offended by anything and everything. You can see this reflected in our current society. Sad, really.
@SledgeScarves
@SledgeScarves 6 жыл бұрын
Terrie Smith I have notice that too. Not sure if its because of the changing society and how we have become disconnect with talking to each other 1 on 1 in person as oppose to through text and social media. Alot more people are being diagnosed with anxiety as well which is crazy to me. we dont support each other as much as we use to. were more likely to put someone down or talk negatively about some one over giving them a compliment. maybe that is where the issue is
@chaosdweller
@chaosdweller 6 жыл бұрын
It's the current ubiquitousness of Social Media Imo. I think I've noticed this too. What's sad for me personally is that I deal with more than anyone I know psychologically, and A: that causes confusion cause people sometimes accuse me of being overly sensitive or anxious, when in reality they don't know what I was or have been dealing with before it ..."appears"... that Im sensitive. B: It makes me callous to those who are struggling and then I always!!!! feel guilty immediately afterwards, its because I look at the weight I'm caring and then look at them thinking in disgust how weak they are psychologically, sometimes I wish people feel what I feel, and that's just wrong! wishing that on others even if it's just for a few seconds or minutes, but I believe this is all human nature. It's took a long time for me to get this way especially the last part.

The Bible calls that taking your thoughts captive and submitting them to God!. Below commentary seem to suggest that it is so easy to ignore other people's opinion about ourselves and yet exactly that is how we are raised. Our parents are the first who have an opinion about us and ~ like it or not ~ eagerly share it with us. That's how it starts. I am old enough now to know that shaking that habit off is not as easy as people below would suggest. But the good news is that it is quite possible. Unfortunately the Church is not as eager to teach on this topic as much as society is now. The good part is that a couple of years ago I learned that all things work together for good for those who trust in him. Meaning even though the Church does not teach this I am blessed by coming across videos like this that teach on the topic anyway. We just need to remember who we give thanks to! God is amazing!

This is amazingly powerful especially when Tom spends the time to reframe it. There are so many of us who have an amazing music inside but we don't have the courage to sing it out loud. It's easy to say "we shouldn't listen to other people opinions", but truth is first we need to acknowledge that we are affected. On top of that we can build a healthy self-esteem which will grow from assumed vulnerability. It's a process. Thanks, Tom!

Very Informative! Western societies tend to focus on individualism and too many times we find people who struggle with self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression etc... Our culture is now based on how we can call people out, disrespect the ideas from others. Most people are finding themselves in a rat race competing for the top but I believe that if we focus building self-esteem and self worth we can get a place where we can empower others instead of tearing them down.

Internet Some people force others to think like this instead of having personal opinion. For example. There's movie/videogame. Some people like it, others hate it. And so fans yell that it's the best game/movie and want everyone to love it (sometimes even praise it like something religious), haters want more people to hate it and insult it's fans. I'm usually reacting negatively not to hate/praise itself, but that they want other to be like them. Let people have their own opinion!

“We get to decide who we are. There’s no objective truth that you’re going to find or uncover. You’re simply the collection of the things that you believe to be true about yourself. And once you begin to form that opinion of who you are, you’ll act in accordance with that belief. You begin to shape a vision of yourself in your own mind, and that becomes the reality. So letting other people influence that-letting other people come in and degrade what you think of yourself is one of the most dangerous things you could do. Because they cloud your ability to craft a vision of the person you want to become....We’ve gotta have intention in creating that person we want to become.” “It’s not about trying to reflect what you think is true. learning to understand and criticize someones false perceptions of you should just be common sense. (maybe not directly to them.) I understand what he is saying. If you truly cared about sharing optimism you would see past any sort of negativity someone chose to specifically spew at you, maybe not to agree with them but to just understand what other people might be going through and get through to them with anything, no matter how insignificant or life changing your actions may be. That there is a difference between self imitation/arrogance and the desire to truly impact a life.

Recently I posted a video about the pitfalls women tend to fall into in relationships, and with every word I spoke, I kept second guessing myself. I kept wanting to reword things in a way that would be as least offensive as possible. I kept remembering all of the ridiculous internet fights and seeing how someone would be pissed off by my words. In the end I didn't change it because hell, apathy is the last thing I want to make people feel, which they will if I'm a watered down and diplomatic fool...but man...it's a real battle.

There IS an objective truth of who we are as we were created by God. We don’t create ourselves or make ourselves up. That is ego talking. Ego wants to invent itself as a self concept instead of accepting the truth of who we are.
