Dear Floating Isle. This is not the first time i see your videos , and definitely wont be the last as iam captivated alot by this particular concept of eye contact. I had a few questions in mind , that i would be absolutely delighted if you answered them. My first out of three questions. 1. If i wanted to do a social experiment with people regarding eye contact , what is the proper and least humiliating way? 2. What exactly happens during this extended eye contact period? 3. When does eye contact become too much , or creepy ? Thank you❤

1 Most people are not comfortable about looking at something (human or camera) or being videoed. So it's not about least humiliating way to communicate to people. It's about finding the right group of people who are open minded. If you have art school or media school in your city, you could try to find people or talk to people about your social experiment near those areas. Trying to explain your experiment to people within two sentences "Hi I'm doing a .... project, it's about...it will take you 20 seconds, would you be interested?" I always approach people at their side, and I don't stare at them when they pass me, I know who to approach, but I don't stare at them before I approach them because staring makes people feel anxious if they see you doing that.

I don't understand your second question. Your question is about what happened in real life when a person look at you too much and what will happen? It depends on the person, if I love someone, I could look at him all day every moments I see him. Most people don't look at the other person that long when they're sober. The films I made are conceptual films, it's not about the reality. In reality, most people wouldn't do that. It's too intimate to stare at someone for such a long time and it shows vulnerability. If I didn't understand your question right you could tell me. In reality most people simply wouldn't look at someone for 10 seconds if they're not in love.

In our current social norm in North American, you shouldn't look at someone that you don't know for more than 1 or 2 seconds. If you are talking to your acquaintances or your friends, you could look at them more, you could just look at them while talking. (Not staring) Usually you wouldn't look at someone for more than 5 seconds if you're not trying to flirt. But this is the social norms and I have been trying to shift it a little bit, that's why I made all those videos to inspire some people to look at each other more. I usually just look at people when we are in a conversation. One hour, two hours... But I don't stare at people in the public if we don't know each other. Starting usually being interpreted as creepy.

You see, some people could stare into the camera for 2 minutes in these videos is because they think it's rare to do it so they tried. But I think most people in these videos simply wouldn't look at someone for that long in real life.

Hi Yuliku ... your job is amazaing as always .. you don't stop surprising me with this amount of material to enjoy ... by the way .. what's the distance between you and the person being filmed ? when you do close-up , do you use the zoom or are you getting closer to the person ? ... thanks a lot for all this material ... you deserve the best in your filming carreer ...

The distance is 15mm between the camera and the face when I do the close up, it's really close. My lence can't do zoom in, so I'm smashing camera on people's face...

Did you cue these participants to express a particular emotion, or did you just ask them to show what they are feeling?

In this video I asked people to think about how they were feeling last night before they went to bed.

Usually I ask them to express a certain emotion. For example I'm doing a video "I feel so close to you" then when I'm filming, I will ask people to think about a person who they feel emotionally deeply connect with.

Interesting. Was that so they would show a recent emotion of theirs that wouldn’t be influenced by the present moment interactions?

@@thomascampbell9049 It simply because people usually feel more before they fall asleep. (I think) And most people don't feel much deep feelings while they're walking.
