Dont forget that if you want to live in Princeton you need at least ten super trendy politically fashionable super woke lawn signs to make sure everyone, that didnt ask, knows all of your delusional left wing political opinion! Remember we embrace diversity, but only if your a brainwashed zombie that obeys the cult! Independent thinkers or fact checkers not welcome! Hate doesnt live here! Except for our own of course!

@learnprogrammingeasyway4865 6 ай бұрын
Having completed my Undergraduate in an average school and then went to one of those so called "elite" for grad school. Grade deflation is true but I eventually realized that the quality of education is worse. The Professors are more interested in sounding smart but they cannot teach. I pay for learning not to hear that you can make things confusing. The same concept can be articulated in an easier comprehensive way for the majority to understand but yet they love to be pretentious. Well my kids would not go those "elite schools" even though their dad went there to realize its all fake and pretentious.

@@learnprogrammingeasyway4865 I def agree that sometimes the teachers over complicate things, especially since im in engineering and freshman and sophomore year consists of 'weed out' courses. However the connections I've made at Princeton alone make it worth it, and as Im the first in my family to go ivy they aren't connections I would have otherwise had. Im curious to hear if you felt that connections helped you at grad school, as at this point I more or less have a career lined up.

@@pneu69420Ummm… let’s see. Yes, I will offer my own unsolicited advice 😅. Apart from taking at least 3/4 of the AP (or equivalent) courses offered at your school and receiving top academic scores, there are other obvious considerations such as essays, extracurriculars, recommendations, internships, and awards. At Pton, notably, doing substantial community service in high school is an expectation. I was fortunate, because my application cycle coincided with the post-pandemic period (2021-22), when COVID-19 was still very prominent in public consciousness. I also travelled abroad to do further service. Additionally, I did a research internship in my junior year within Stanford’s engineering department, and this involved a service-related cause of moderate relevance to our project. But these aspects are highly emphasised by almost every resource you are likely to encounter. So I would give two foremost pieces of advice which extend beyond ‘demonstrating excellence’. The first is to ‘stand out’. This will prove essential in how you are perceived (and remembered) by the admissions committee. Find something unique about your perspective or experience, something which very few people would be qualified to convey or attest to. It can be acceptable to exaggerate slightly, within reason. I know several people who all but fabricated anecdotes central to their personal statements, all in order to effectively communicate ‘something of their true essence’. Employ every possible asset, even the gift of your imagination. You have to present yourself in an ‘exceptional’ light, without making it seem deliberate. Write in a subtle but passionate manner, and above all, do seem genuine by all means. Obviously, be as genuine as possible-work only with what is true, legitimate, and verifiable-even if perfect accuracy and exactitude of minor details is of lesser import. I will elaborate further on this below. Use differences to your advantage. And undertake ‘exclusive’ endeavours, academic or otherwise, not in the sense of social status, but in the sense of intellectualism and exceptionalism. Prestige can never hurt, be it in awards, organisational membership, or other. Prestige and exclusivity are two of the salient qualities (beyond excellence) which persist in this calibre of institution. The second piece of advice is more of an unexpected (potentially unintuitive) insight. In my experience, the application writing process is as integral to admissions as the four years of tedious high school academic labour (and prior academic experiences/endeavours). Once you reach this stage, you can’t go back and improve upon the past. But you can frame what you have accomplished, and who you claim to be, in the most agreeable light. I say ‘who you claim to be’, because no one truly knows themselves at 17. In the 1.5 years since, I’ve already learned so much more about myself. Yes, Pton has tested my mental fortitude 💀. I advise you to rigorously research each university to which you apply in a very individualised manner, in order to present yourself as the ‘ideal’ applicant and to establish an impression of ‘perfect fit’. Write passionately about your extracurriculars, and remember to include them in essays. The value of your ‘activities’ to the admissions committee is wholly dependent on their perceived importance to you; and this can best be displayed in prose. I recommend including at least one competitive academic extracurricular which relates to your intended field of study, one service-related activity (and why its cause is of particular relevance to you), one which is so eccentric or unique that few people will have had experience with it, and one which is purely and simply impressive. These categories may overlap-in fact, that would be an advantage. The best essays will teach the readers something new, introducing them to a novel perspective on an issue, for instance, or integrating interesting factual information which cannot be merely searched online. Be sure to write your application in a coherent and cohesive manner. That is, you are a puzzle and each element of your application is a single piece of that puzzle. It has to fit together in a way that makes sense. There should be a common theme throughout your academic achievements, endeavours, and professional aspirations (e.g. Do you wish to become a medical researcher and work on developing a cure to certain types of illnesses? Are you passionate about social justice? etc.) Provide a reason/cause for your interests. It’s ok to embellish this reason or cause; universities have certain expectations, and they wish you to exceed these in every regard. They want you to be an ‘engaged’ member of society, a future leader of the world. They expect you to have lofty ambitions (but to present them subtly and realistically). It is important to establish a plan for how you will portray yourself this way in a cohesive manner, encompassing all aspects of your application. Finally, don’t be generic-be distinct. Embrace your individuality. Do you have a particular style in speech or writing? Do you have a more serious or humorous disposition? Is this a ‘quirky’ university (e.g. Stanford) or a more traditional one? Exploit this! Is it one that encourages you to study one main subject (e.g. Princeton) or one that encourages extensive academic exploration (note: Yale’s ‘AND’ factor of interdisciplinary study). Convince each university beyond the shadow of a doubt, with the skill of a professional con artist, that THEY alone are your very top choice. But don’t be too emphatic or transparent. Convince them not with words but with evidence. Don’t hesitate to seek all the advantages you can. This isn’t a fair game; it is a fallible and deeply-flawed system. Discover its vulnerabilities and exploit them. Do you have a favourite teacher who attended this university? Ask for a letter of recommendation! Do you have any family members who are alumni? Ask them for ‘inside’ information on the campus experience or anything which might demonstrate familiarity and particular regard. I would caution you against exploiting personal ‘hardships’ to seek advantages here, but don’t hesitate to use ‘diversity’. By this, I don’t mean racial or ethnic diversity in particular , but rather all varieties of it-geographical, linguistic, cultural, or personal (hobbies, non traditional family circumstances, etc.) Be transparent and direct about hardships, but don’t portray them in an overly-dramatic, sensationalist, or tragic tone. Generally, the more subdued the tone, the better. They have, quite literally, seen and read it all before. This was long. I hope it was gave at least a modicum of insight. In any case, best of luck, and I hope you ultimately receive favourable responses from your top choices ! You still have a few years to prepare, but I recommend early planning (at least one year in advance). I know this is a particularly trying period of time. I won’t say that it will soon be over, because I honestly didn’t feel that way at all. When asked about my biggest adversities, I literally felt tempted to just write ‘high school and this application’ 😭. Well, I hope the end will afford some relief.

@@dankengine5304 True. Many intelligent people tend to get absorbed into artificial realities replete with likeminded folks. Many corporations hire such folks and put them on tasks such as analysis. They can do fine but your point is still valid. I was good friends with a Doctor. She told me that she literally did not know how to operate a microwave oven. Part of it is that they focus really hard on one thing e.g., becoming a Doctor or a XYZ, that they do not prioritize other things. If the same person did not have the opportunity or means to go to college, they would likely have perfectly good critical thinking skills. A big part of higher education is a unique socialization environment where they prioritize studying in order to pass tests and that is about it. Everything else is simply not important. They are then desperate to "make it" in their chosen profession because they fully realize that they lack any and all common sense and CTSkills. They also have massive tuition debt that they need to pay back. These are golden handcuffs. They can get anxious and even depressed. This is not uncommon among highly intelligent people. No one is immune. Furthermore, humans have an extremely limited ability to process information. As in about 1% throughput. As a result, most tend to focus only on a limited number of things at a time aka their personal rabbit hole. To focus on more things can often eave, even a highly intelligent person very overwhelmed. One (1) out of five (5) Americans is on a psych drug including SSRI's and Anxiety meds. These drugs can have devastating effects on a persons ability to focus. I don't even know what a college is and i ended up with your shorts all over my feed hahaha In any case, i'd like to share what my university was like (Unibo- university of Bologna): After graduation almost everyone attempts to get in university these days. It's affordable, averaging 5k € for the whole degree (reduced or turned to 0 if you are poor and good at it). To get in you have to pass a test, which isn't usually that hard, and you can retry thice per year for as many times as you want. Some faculties take you in even if you don't pass it, it depends on how many people are attempting to get in. The first half year is FULL of students. Thing is the way lessons are structured is completely different from normal school: every class can have hundreds of people in it, professors will not even know your name and will not care about you in the slightest and you don't really have any deadline concerning the exams, which are usually ABSURDLY DIFFICULT right from the start. This leads to a cull in the university population right after February. It almost halves! Many others fell behind schedule, get demotivated and eventually drop off. Only a fraction of the original students end up graduating. We don't have clubs or stuff like that... You basically live your normal life as an adult going to a super hard school. Fun fact: after getting your extremely sweated degree you can toss it in a bin because you will likely not find a job and having one will actually be detrimental to employers. Many of us run away from the country to survive!

As Somone from Princeton it’s evil the students are so so just not it from the highschool to the college once my brother worked at the Wawa on the university campus and he was training a kid (like this kid graduated and was going to collage) and he asked my brother how to open a cookie.. it was just like a chip bag.

I grew up there. It is gorgeous and full of amazing history/art/food but it is very pretentious and yes there is almost no night life outside of the university because it is a town of 30,000 ppl. The campus is incredible though I used to walk through everyday to go to high school.
