The weird part is that they DID figure out the earliest form of gold-plating. The fact that the alchemists themselves were the only ones to even understand the vocabulary needed to explain what was _actually_ happening caused the various mistranslations/ miscommunications that led to many of the greediest folks either ordering their local/ court/ etc. natural philosophers to try to replicate this "transmutation" to to attempt it themselves; usually with predictably dickish results from everyone when failure to do the impossible inevitably resulted form people more well read in the pre- physics/ biology/ medicine/ astronomy fields that had actually been proving somewhat useful up to that point. So, this is also the origin story of how/ why funding research has been traditionally seen as a complete waste of time in disturbingly large circles of "serious minded" treasurers...

I completely agree with you. If I close my eyes and listen to all his Slayer toons I literally can’t differentiate between him and Slayer themselves.
