Quick note about rules: when challenging a true assassin or declaring falsely a contessa to block an assassination, if the assassinated is revealed to be wrong he must discard one card for the murder and one for the lost challenge! So Spencer should have lost both cards! But at the end of the day Coup is still fun even with these little mistakes!

7:16 He lost a challenge, so he loses a card. He also still gets assassinated. He’s out, and that’s why challenging an assassin is sketchy. Faking contessa is the same result if challenged. Assassin is a strong card.

I always have difficulty using the Assassin, as well as captain. Now, I know what to do with the Assassin. Also, just sharing, but I always love using Duke (or doing Tax) because in my friend group it's either no one dares to accuse if someone has no Duke or no one can block Tax and in that case everyone can Tax despite the fact that they don't have Duke.

@@b_lye And mindgame-wise it's so cool: you have the three options - take the hit, call out their assassin, claim contessa - 2 of which can result in instant double kill. And claiming contessa you can pretty much only do _right_ away super confidently (unless you actually have it and you're just that good at faking doubt) cause otherwise it's gonna be easy to call out. Maximum stakes bluffing

What's fun is when you get the extention pack, which includes allegiances and the Inquisitor card. The Inquisitor has the same function as the Ambassador, but you can either choose the deck, OR look at another person's card and choose to swap. It also allows for more players. So glad you guys played this, this is one of my favorite games!

Loving the throwback games - I loved the tabletop games era and this cast doing it is sublime. Can we get a Salem, A mafia game but a lot more people than last time (you played werewolf/mafia hybrid) - the ones Western ones, the one where you made up characters and had to appease the overlord.

Slight rule correction (Coup is also one of my favourite games!): To answer Spencer's question at 6:54. If somebody attempts to use an assasin on you, and you falsely accuse them of lying, you actually lose both of your government official cards and are immediately out of the round (you lose one official for the successful assasination by your opponent, and another for falsely accusing them of lying).
