Originally he was meant to be a well-intentioned extremist. But I prefer too his pride of being evil. The Sithest Sith do not care about a better tomorrow like Revan, Dooku or Vader. It's only power, whatever you can do with it for only yourself, contempt for everything that is not them and that's it. A total opposite of Jedi, who are meant to use their own power for anyone but themselves.
