As a younger supertramp fan, all I’ve ever wanted to is to see the band perform live. I grew up on this music and it would be amazing to see all these guys come together to be apart of something bigger than themselves. Do it for the fans. It would so special.

I would love to see a Supertramp reunion. But even for a one-off, the amount of work in rehearsing alone to get all that material back up to public performance standards would be huge. It's not like they have to remember four chords and a groove. It's intricate, very well produced, superbly arranged works. I'm sure they could get it done, but, it would be a long way home.

I will never forget when I first heard supertramp with my best friend Bernard, his older brother Gerard Kenny lived in England and played breakfast in America for us, since we were all musicians it was just so fresh and new and we absolutely loved it !!!

Sadly that ship has sailed into the sunset! Rick's illness and the rift with Roger means that this lusted for reunion will never happen. Great band, had the privilege of seeing them live 4 times. Brilliant song writers and performers.

Great interview John!! Always thought John Helliwell’s contribution to Supertramp was tremendous and under-acclaimed. Sad that JH is right.

If they want to do it, now is the time. No one is getting any younger. Roger tours now in the USA and they advertise him as "the voice of Supertramp". There were two voices in Supertramp!

Roger is an egomaniac. He credits the sole success of the group to himself. That alone, unfortunately, makes a reunion highly unlikely.
@marshalllucky Жыл бұрын
If you watch the few fairly recent videos of Rick Davies where he has been playing low key bar gigs as Ricky and the rockets, it seems unlikely he could manage a reunion , he still has the magic but he does look old and frail and I think we should remember the famous five exactly as they were at their artistic greatness in 1983. The music doesnt age but we humans do !

Six words: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. IF they ever get in, that might be when a reunion could occur.

I find it hard to believe that Supertramp is not already in the Rock and Roll HOF. If a band of this quality doesn't qualify for the HOF then the HOF is not really a hall of fame at all in my opinion. I have no idea what the process is for inclusion to the hall so it begs the question as to what the criteria is. Once again IMHO I believe that there are are bands that are not nearly as accomplished as Supertramp is that are in the HOF so I wonder what is stopping their induction.

@@richardwestmoreland4796 They’re not in the “cool club”. It’ll never happen. Supertramp were a phenomenal band, but if they’re not the darlings of Rolling Stone, it ain’t gonna happen. You’ll know it’s the end of times when them , along with Al Stewart are inducted.

I'm a huge Supertramp fan and I don't think I'd enjoy a reunion at this point. The time has long passed, me and the band have all gotten older and it seems more enjoyable to enjoy old clips and the original music as we knew it back in the day. I don't get nostaligic watching them revise a song at this point in their lives. Same with KISS, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John... Sometimes it's better to just stay in the past and keep those memories from back there.

Ohh! The original line up with Hodgeson would be a very hot ticket!. Coming from the UK, I could see a week long residency at the London 02! Well I'm 60 now, was 12 when "Dreamer" was in the charts!. "Breakfast in America" was a soundtrack on leaving school at 16 (1979)! I still consider "Even in the quietest moments" as my favourite Tramp album! . Go for it!!

John Heliwell is a natural and passioned musician and we have to realize that we write the year 2023. Rick Davis whom I appreciate as much as Mr. helical suffers from a multiple Myome and even if Mr. Davis is recovered,m those guys from "Supertramp" are not young anymore and to play concerts isn't that easy anymore.

One of my all-time favorite albums Supertramp live from Paris. Growing up in the 70's never understood why this band was despised soo much. Its not like they were Johnny Rotten & the Sex Pistols lol Of course those were crazy times, I remember people burning all those Bee Gee's albums in public mmm mm mm 🤔

A reunion would be nice but I just want Rick to be healthy and happy. Yes it was a sad time, 83 - Roger left Supertramp, 85 Waters left Pink Floyd, but then Brother Where You Bound came out - WITH GILMOUR - and I really hoped Gilmour was going to be a permanent Supertramper.... Could you imagine that writing team? Remember kids - don't take sides; Supertramp & Pink Floyd split, but 84, 85 and 87 gave us Pros & Cons, In The Eye Of The Storm, Brother Where You Bound AND A Momentary Lapse Of Reason! It was more like divorced musical parents - TWO Christmases!

A reunion will NEVER happen between Rick and Roger. I always read into it that the reason Roger left in 83 was because of Rick’s insistence of his wife managing the band. I don’t know if she was a Yoko Ono type figure, but it was enough for Roger to leave. Supertramp is a lot like The Police where they broke up on top after Famous Last Words and playing stadiums, at least the Roger faction of the band. Then Rick also broke the agreement of not playing Hodgson songs while taking his version of the band out on the road. It always sounded like two stubborn guys that refused to cave for one another as far as there ever being a reunion. What a shame.

It's very much the same thing that David Gilmour and Roger Waters have going on with Pink Floyd. Two of the members of a once great band have too much animosity towards each other to allow them to share a stage together again. We fans will never know the whole story in these feuds between big egos and as much as we would love to turn back the clock and have that beautiful music on display again human nature is such that it is all but impossible to ever see it happen. As fans we hope that never is out of the equation but alas we are only fans who never have a say in these type of things. Music can be such a joyful thing but it is made by human beings and that is where it will for lack of a better term always have the potential for getting a bit messy. Sadly I believe we have seen and heard the last of the great band Supertramp.

What i hope will happen is that they get inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame *yes its a travesty they arent in already * and do a 2 night reunion at wembley stadium. Sell the place out and put on the best shows they can. Its been a dream of mine as many other supertramp fans to see them put thier differences away for the fans sake and make it happen even if for only a couple nights

John certainly would. Dougie won't. He's too angry at Rick. Maybe even more than Roger might ever be. Growing old should provide you a whole deal of wisdom so that you can say 'oh, let's get off of all that crap, we're human beings...', this seems not to be in Rick's or Roger's minds. Or at least their wives... I mean, both of them are so introverted and stubborn, they still need to be true to their word and probably too much thick, always standing firmly in their wee own backyard.
