Taken that "The Wizard of Oz" was released the same year as the first BHS quartet contest (1939) it makes the most sense that Over the Rainbow would work as a barbershop chart.

If they win gold, would that be Tony's fifth? I think that would be the record.

Clay Hine can do no wrong as an arranger. There are some really cool homages to Ed Waesche’s arrangement of “Over the Rainbow,” which Second Edition won with in ‘89.

3:55 What the hell is that overtone?!
@oldguydoesstuff120 Жыл бұрын
To my occasionally tin ear, that's an F4 (just above middle C). At first, I though it was just the tenor sliding up to it and a mistake in the transcription. But it disappears as soon as the bass drops out while the rest hold their note a bit longer. So I think it really is an overtone. It's the 5th of that dominant 7 chord, so makes sense as an overtone. One of the more obvious overtones to hear, yet so subtle as it's not way up high. It really blends in well as its right in the range where everyone is singing. Just so, so good!

from what I heard, it was because when they first formed/competed, Joseph (their tenor) was around 16 or 17 at the time.

Assuming you are serious, the guy on the far right - Tony - is the father of the guy on the far left - Joseph. So it's a bit of a riff on the TV show Two and a half men.

Music is made to be played, and no two times a song is played is the same. Every time you sing or play a song (live, not a recording obviously) is different in some way, and a lot of the time one group will play a song differently than another. This isn't out of disrespect but because music is sound and not something rigid and physical. Musicians and composers understand this. In fact I think the original composer for the song would love to know their original composition is so well loved it's being sung in many different ways.
