my choir teacher in high school, mr graves, actually worked for festival disney in their choir for years before becoming a teacher and ill never forget when he performed this for us to teach about having confidence in your voice while learning how to utilize your range!

Saw Bryn Terfel at Tanglewood in recital several years ago. The amazing thing about him was just how much he was enjoying himself--in fact he didn't want to stop. After a couple of hours, he launched into a series of encores. Then he took requests. Then he remarked on how acoustically wonderful the space was and announced he would "test" it by singing as loud as he could. IDK, maybe he was on something 🤪 but it was FABULOUS!!! I will never forget it.

I would highly recommend that you look into his work,which has spanned over 30 years. He is one of the very greatest stars of International Opera in our time. To make it even better,he is a fellow Welshman! Know kindest regards.

Sir Bryn’s career started after the famous ‘Battle of the Baritones’ during the 1989 ‘Cardiff Singer of the World’ competition. He was definitely the favourite, especially being Welsh, but it was a very strong final and he was pipped at the post by the great Russian, Mr Dimitri Hvorostovsky.

Ive always like this rendition. Since he's adding he's own flair and antics into the song, it adds a layer of personality thats similar to the original but otherwise personal. What i mean is that in the original, the emotion you get is akin to "Sigh, I know its not everything, but wouldn't it be nice to be rich". In this one its "I know its not eveything, but come on! Wouldnt it be nice to be rich!?" Its that subtle difference that I like.

Sure. Great choices make great performances. These weren’t great choices though imo. The cadences and often cynical delivery we saw from Mostel, Bernardi, and Topol were unmistakably East European Jewish. This would be perfect if it was a performance of La Mancha or Sweeney Todd. As Tevye… I don’t know. Didn’t do it for me.

@@verityvinyl8540 At some point in the rehearsals, they wanted to cut that whole section towards the end when he sings "If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack...". Zero Mostel put his foot down. "If you cut that, you don't know this man!" It was left in.
