8:48 Refinishing the top of a Les Paul will cost you much more than $500! Application of the Nitrocellulose Lacquer as well as dealing with the binding is very labor intensive, not to mention stripping the top's factory finish. Great idea though, the Dark Fire's construction is very interesting. Also, PLEASE, find a London Fog Edition for your collection.

A couple of notes. HH John Paul 2 preached that charity was the best gift so many gifts were sold for charity. Something that continues to this day. In fact around 40 Ferrari’s have been gifted, including a prototype of the Fender Ferrari custom shop. Although BB playing it is a secular bonus. There is footage of Gary Moore playing that guitar, in fact he used it so much that at the time I was disappointed that the GM BFG wasn’t a clone of that.

I had the pleasure of seeing B B King in Melbourne, Oz, as part of the U2 Love comes to town tour. 1987 maybe? Mr King changed my perspective on guitar playing. Been a fan of blues since. I live over in NZ these days but given Ive got a cancer scare I may go back to Melbourne later this year and catch up with family and friends Cheers 😎🎸🤘

BB King lost one Lucille in a fire. but he had quite a number of Lucille guitars. once in while he could be seen playing a red one. but most of the time he played a black one.

There was an interview with BB in guitar magazine back in the 80s where they ask many questions about his Gibson signature model. He says he was not consulted at all in any of the design features. He said he hated the TP-6 and immediately threw away the set screws. He also said he didn't care for the varitone at that point and didn't use it, like he did back in the old days with his 355 or 345. He sums it all up by saying he doesn't care about guitars, as far as make, model, or features. He said "put a string on anything, and I'll bend it and play my licks"

I remember going to guitar center and checking out a gibson robot les paul when they just came out with. I plugged it in and started playing it and instantly almost pulled an ace frehley move in the middle of the store while doing a blistering solo and sparks literally shooting out of the bridge pickup also getting zapped. I told the store worker that it was shooting out sparks and just pulled an ace move. It turned out to be a real fire hazard.

I wonder if you could encase that pick guard in epoxy to arrest the decay. Wouldn’t be useable, but sealing it away from oxygen might preserve it. You’d need to do some research to find an epoxy that won’t react with nitro, but it’s probably out there.

I guess the pick guard was changed, because the photos with the Pope seem to show a regular, black pick guard. Doesn't that make it difficult to confirm this is the same guitar as the one in the photos...or am I just missing something in those pictures?

It would've started life a darker red color. The photo quality isn't that good so it is believable it could be the same pickguard just showing up darker. The offgassing process changes the color quite a bit
