Sid isn't really guilty of anything. The director said that even though he's the opposite of Andy, he's not a bad kid. He's actually a rather typical boy. Andy is an idealized version of a child playing with his toys, but Sid is a more realistic depiction. Cause let's be honest, most kids aren't as innocent as Andy. Or at least I wasn't. Since Sid didn't know that toys are sentient, he cannot be charged with cruelty. He was just displaying some genuine creativity and engineering on inanimate objects
