There's a recipe to make your own sarsaparilla, it takes a cap, and some cactus water. But every time you open a bottle of it, there's a chance it has a blue star cap. I saved the bother of collecting about half of those blue stars. If you don't get a blue star, you still get your cap back! That said, the prize you get is rubbish, but still, it's a quest, it's a thing to see.

You almost always traded materials (Sell buffout and jet for more ammo) also you coul buy unique guns from vendors but there was also Unique weapons you could find, like the survivalists rifle. Also OWB gave younanfree house AMD special 'Merchants' that let you turn a lot of junk into useful resources. Plus Dead money you could get the Chip Voucher that was just free Currency. New Vegas refined alot of the game. Fallout 4 though just tried to add more content. I got bored of Fallout 4 once I cleared most of the map and Nukaworld butnInstill play new vegas

Fun fact: in fallout new Vegas there’s a way to farm caps with the jury rigging perk. You need NCR trooper armor, combat armor, and about 50 barter to make a profit. Kill some troopers, repair their armor, then go to the gun runners and buy their combat armor. Repair the combat armor with the trooper armor and sell the armor back.

Fun fact: bottlecaps became the currency of choice in the OG Fallout because they were a backed currency, specifically backed with potable water by the water trading cartels in the Hub. As the NCR got on its feet it started printing a gold-backed paper currency, but the Brotherhood nixed their gold reserve during the Brotherhood-NCR War, which is why NCR paper money is suffering from inflation issues in New Vegas and why a lot of traders and regular people have gone back to caps - cultural inertia, an actual backing, and the fact that it's way harder to simply "print" new caps as opposed to new NCR greenbacks.

Nah, BEST price you can buy a Nuka Cola for is 24 caps due to the 20% write-up which is the minimum, and the BEST you can sell one for is 16 caps due to the 20% diminshment that is the minimum even with the BEST charisma and what not. If your charisma is trash, and I would understand if so because LOTS of people think that charisma is a garbage stat, yeah you'll be paying WAY more than 24 caps for a Nuka Cola and would be able to sell one for WAY less than 16 caps. But hey, charisma is 'useless trash' right? Enjoy your one cap... meanwhile I can sell 3 fusion cores with 1% charge left in them for the same price it costs me to buy 2 unused fusion cores. Straight-up trade. 3 at 160 caps each, and 2 at 240 caps each. 480 caps, break-even, and pre-war money is worth 6 caps each so 100, which can be accumulated pretty quickly, can be translated into 600 caps. I like being charismatic ;)

@@cartercummiskey9995 True, the reason why paper money like USD, Rubles, Euros etc. are valuable is because they are backed by gold, silver, and other precious metals and resources. A good example of this is the NCR in New Vegas, they have their currency backed by Purified Water which is a pretty valuable substance in an irradiated desert. But then again, their currency is really only accepted in areas they control(or have influence in)for the most part.

I like how in the METRO games the currency is armor piercing bullets. There are some real nasty creatures out there and something that can put them down fast unlike handmade garbage rounds would be exceptionally valuable. It makes sense as a universally valuable currency.

Well that's wrong because 20 caps is still a lot for just a soda because in the end it's literally just one soda that will probably disappear in 3 gulps and at that point your just better off buying some water for 2 caps because you get the same satisfaction of being dehydrated and in a nuclear apocalypse surviving is way more important than just having a soda because it taste good store example doesn't make any sense because your saying that this guy trading in the same colas in for the gun is the same as trading some off brand shoes for some Nike and which are sold by completely different vendors where as the homie naiwal said that he should be able to exchange 6 colas for the gun because the gun is worth 123 caps according the vendor and the cola is worth 20 caps according to the same vendor meaning that in the vendors eyes if he trades in the exact same cola that the vendor is SELLING for 20 caps he should get 20 caps in return from the same vendor and so if he were to sell the cola 6 times he should get 120 caps which is pretty much 3 caps short of the same value of the gun but your example was some guy buying 5 offbrand shoes from one vendor for their listed price and selling it to another vendor with different listed prices that weren't selling the same offbrand shoes therefore those offbrand shoes that the guy in your example bought would mean nothing to the shoe store because they didn't sell the guy those shoes and don't know the value of those shoes so for all they know the shoes could be worth 10$ or 1000$ compared to Naiwals situation where he IS selling the same cola that the same vendor is selling to him for a set price of 20 caps meaning your example makes no sense and you are wrong

if the soda was common af like in the games then it's overpriced but if it was actually rare then I could see it being pricey, no the shoe example was good I'd disagree, so irl nobody barters stuff anymore officially, we just use currency but in fallout I think you should be able to trade the gun for 6 sodas since in the story barters are common and selling 1 expensive item in a world where everyone is poor is difficult, might as well get rid of the gun and keep the drinks tell sell quicker since it's in reach for more people, so the seller doesn't know how to do business, he would need a rich Merc to pass by to buy it when the Merc would probably have a good gun with him already, long rant but this was fun
