They are giving away the Matte Black and Silver RS models for 2-3,000 less then MSRP. You can get Free Spirits Fat Bar or Tracker kit for $700 and a Speed Twin tank for -$1,000 in Black, and all of that less then 17,000. The RS motor is very noticebly more powerful (rode both at the dealer yesterday). Unfortunately I still cant decide which one to buy. I'm leaning Thruxton RS

I'd like to see a T120 R. So much of a bike speaks to the aesthetic and the T120 just has what it takes; full wrap mud guard, pea-shooter exhaust, nice touring riding position. One can of course easily up-grade their own T120 with Fox Shocks and MeerKat X-pipe, but upgrading the wheels, brakes and fork are a more difficult DIY; so it would be nice if the Triumph factory or dealers would offer a T120 package with Thruxton-grade brakes and suspension.

The Speed Twin is a great thing as standard. In its defence, at first I thought the suspension was harsh and bumpy but 6,000Km have mellowed it amazingly. I've had six Triumphs now and all of them have improved up to 8,000Km then stayed consistent up to 60,000Km - the longest I've kept one before being lured back in...

I seen it on google images a week or so ago and instantly said I love it. Having had time to reflect, I think the rear suspension is ok as far as bling goes but the wheels and fork legs are a bit too much gold for me, I’d rather they were black, It also needs a decat x-pipe for a bit more growl. £17K is too steep for me but I do love it.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Well done Jack Lilly! 👍🏻 Actually tempted to chop in my T120 but done too much to it recently to justify it. @dan-sc7fm4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. I did the same. except opted for andreani fork cartridges, more accessible here in the states. The ohlins black rear shocks look better in my opinion too that are available. However, they are thruxton specific, Ohlins doesn't yet make front or rear specific shocks for Speed Twin, and will raise you aprox. 5mm higher on back which isn't noticible. The setup is noticeably better. And of course d- cat the bike and put whatever slip ons you desire. Hell of a lot cheaper than $6,000.

But I didn't like the fact that they had to be sent in to fastbike to be assembled then sent back to be installed (special tools required). And also the fact that I had a bad experience waiting forever for Nitrons.

There were several reasons why the European bike builders like Triumph and Norton couldn't compete with the Japanese motorcycle building machine during the 70's and 80's. But I maintain that while triumph was still building twin cylinder machines, the Japanese were building three and four cylinder motorcycles, once you've heard the sound of a Z1 at 10,000 RPM, you're probably not going back to a twin cylinder motorcycle, unless it's a V twin. If Triumph had offered a fairly large cc three cylinder machine back in the day, they would have been more able to compete. Imho, but they're building some real snappy looking machines right now.

If Tri made this model I’d park it in my toy box IMMEDIATELY I’ve read many reviews that the stock suspension isn’t really ample for larger riders 136kg and 180cm (had to do the math on measures) because the forks aren’t fully adjustable. But seriously Triumph is really doing a lot of things correctly in today’s motorcycle market and making THIS bike would just be another correct thing they do. Ultimately price doesn’t matter because there is someone, or many someones, that want this bike. TFC maybe? Edit: the price would probably not be this high if the factory were producing them in bunches.

I don't mean to be negative - yes I do, so for £6k added onto an already over-expensive bike you get a noisier, better looking, comfy couch with an R in its title. I didn't see it being ridden on country roads where handling could be taken into consideration though even if much better would doubt worth £6k. I will agree it's not always about the £££ if you have them. About 15 years ago maybe more at the Edinburgh Bike show, I had a friendly discussion with a young man I think his name was Jamie? and a junior designer in the R&D department. He asked my opinion on the Bonneville range which if I recall there was about 7, so I gave it. My 69 T120 was the R1 of the day and yes over time (well you know the history) I told him I think they should produce a traditional sports, Bonnie, i.e. semi cafe racer style with a reasonably HIGH performance and tuned 270° crank motor (Phil Irving) with the Thruxton name. His reply there isn't a market for a high-performance twin-cylinder motorcycle. My reply was "have you heard of Ducati. Since then we got the cafe racer styling but still without (in my opinion) the performance.

Take my money, this is the bike I am dreaming of since they announced the speed twin. But won't you achieve the same by putting some higher handlebars on the Thruxton R?

Wheels, tank, seat, rear mudguard, footpeg position all different to thruxton I think

I was asking myself the same question. What would be the main difference between this and a Thruxton? Mainly the riding position?
