Number 2: I did it differently. I used 8 matchsticks to make two squares. Then I place two matchsticks into each square so that each squares would have 3 rectangles. The rules said nothing about it being one shape with 6 equal areas. Though if it had to be one shape I could take the points of each square and connect them.

answer for 1: Take 2 matches and just put them away, bam, you got 4 squares 😄

There's a second solution for number 1, the squares just aren't all the same size. Move the top of 3 to the left of the top of 2 and the right of 3 above the right of 4 and you have square 1, 5, a 2x2 square including 2,3,4, and the new square created , which is the fourth square.

I can do number 7 in three moves. Move the middle end match [vertical] to the lower left corner of the outside [5x5] square [Horizontal] Move the middle end match [Horizontal] to the lower left corner of the inner [3x3] square [Horizontal] Move the middle end match [vertical] to 90 degrees to the left and complete the small square [1x1] [Horizontal] You will end up with the smallest square in the lower left corner of the inner [9x9] square. Also, I found several different solutions to many of the other puzzles. In fact, I actually found the first 2 puzzles to be the hardest. The rest were relatively easy. Need to see more of your videos!!

For number 6 you could also the first 7 inside the largest square so that you leave a row at the bottom of squares. Then, take away one more stick anywhere inside the largest square.

For the first one, you can move the left sick of square 3 and the bottom sick of box 1 to make a big square with square 2 inside of it

I had another solution for puzzle #4, where all 4 triangles are the same size. Remove the two matches that form the left sides of triangle #4, and the two that form the right sides of triangle #5. (or, since it's symmetrical, you can remove the left sides of #2 and the right sides of #7 for the same result) Had a different solution for puzzle #6.1, where I removed the four matches on the middle of the outside. You'll end up with 5 equally sized squares shaped like a cross. #6.5 can be solved with 1 large square and two small ones. Remove the same 4 that you remove at the start of the solution to #6.2, then you can remove another 4 to remove two small squares as well as break up the medium-sized square.
@groszak17 жыл бұрын
Most of them have multiple solutions, for example in the first one you can move the matches to the bottom and to the right of "5" outside
@fantell7 жыл бұрын
question one doesn't ask for four squares the same size... I saw this first: move the left and bottom matchsticks from box 2, and place them to form a new square using the bottom stick from box 1 and the left stick from box 3, replacing the old squares of 1, 2, and 3 with a smaller and larger square to make four total squares.

I have one more different solution of the number (1) . took the right match of 2 and placed horizontall with 2's upper match and moved the upper match of 4 vertically as to 4's right match.
@DavidHume-Educator7 жыл бұрын
6-3 at 10:11 has another solution. In the first and last rows of vertical matches, take out the middle two. Take away the two horizontal matches from the middle square. You are left with one big square and two small ones at the left and right middle.
@GabbrEL8 жыл бұрын
on number one: the left and bottom matches that forms square 2 repositioned between square 1 and 3. you get 3 small squares +one big square. In total = 4
@breathless7928 жыл бұрын
the first one has another solution: take the following matches: the one at the bottom of square 1 and on the left of square 3 and make a big (2x2) square using the squares 1,2,3 and the empty space, this removes 1 and 3 and creates a 2x2 square, the other 3 squares are 2,4 and 5

pshh i got them all! yay! some were so easy i solved in seconds :D hardest was i think 6 no. 2 in no. 4 i got there in a different way: remove 3 matches making up the middle triangle of one of the sides so you are left with one big empty triangle. then the fourth you remove from one of the sides of the other so that you are left with one big triangle and 3 small ones (the small ones together make up an equal-lateral trapese)

Alternative solution to number one. Matches moved: the one between squares 2 and 3, and the one between squares 3 and 4. They should be moved to the top right, forming another square to the right of 2, and above 4. Now, there are 4 squares. 1 and 5 still exist as the first and second. 2, 3, and 4 no longer exist as individual squares, and instead combine with the newly formed one to create one big square. This big square is our third, and the newly formed square exists inside of it as the 4th.
@TacomaPaul8 жыл бұрын
On the first one... I can make 4 cubes by only moving *ONE* match. Remember, there are *no* rules given. It never says all matches must touch. Move top left match away from the other 2 it touches. There you go... 4 cubes. (Remember... never assume anything).

After being absolutely jaded by the lack of rules for #1 and somewhat #2, I did manage to keep a solid streak for questions 3-5 on all parts. Then, I wanted to skip the diagram where you go over why #6 makes 14 squares and accidentally went too far into a solution. Please, for the sake of conveniece, establish more thorough rules, have the entire puzzle/solution appear at once instead of wasting a solid minute moving single matchsticks around with horrid intervals, and perchance choose a better background and font. I did like the puzzles, though. Keep it up!

6.1 has another solution: remove the middle match off each side of the larger square, leaving five squares connected by the corners.
@Sylnin7 жыл бұрын
In 6.3, take the left three squares and take the middle match. Take the top tree squares and take that middle match. Take the four matches from the larger square on the bottle right corner. Now you have one small square in the top left corner, one larger square in the bottom right, and the largest overall square.

@lllbutcher8 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a better solution to 4. Look at the leftmost triangle. Remove the 2 matches leading to the right of its upper vertex. Likewise, remove the 2 matches leading left from the lower vertex of the right triangle. I dont have matches, so haven't tried it. But I imagine it works.
