Thanks for the video. Dealer installed a soft started and I used it for the first time off a Westinghouse 2500 generator. I was getting reverse polarity light on my surge guard and I was ready to call the dealership to have a chat. I will try this and give it another go. Thanks again

Most, not all, portable generators that are not inverter are bonded. The newer, quieter, inverter gens are the ones with no bonding jumper. Shore power and factory installed generators have the N to G bond. Without this bond, the equipment ground (third prong) is not connected to the system and is useless. So metallic objects can become energized and the breaker is not able to trip. Best wishes, Kevin

Hi There we have a 2023 Thor Rv Tranquility PT with the lithium package in it...they told us that in order to recharge the system we can use the shore power or your regular house 120V and it works fine...Now here is the problem..! if we try to use the Honda 2200 Inverter Generator it doesn't work like no power going in the RV...now we have the Neutral Ground Bond on hand ready to try but we are afraid to damage the RV system...do you think that will solve this charging problem?.we just trying to power the Rv with the generator when is not shore power available....This particular model doesn't come equiped with a generator..

If you are using a EMS /. Surge protector, it will not allow power into your every WITHOUT a bonding plug. It’s not that your generator is not work but rather your EMS is actually doing its job it is not silencing the flow I power so it is not allowing it to your converter back to your battery bank. So wouldn’t be afraid to use your plug on your Honda generator. Hope that helps.

was the geni getting hot in there I no those exhaust get hot, got mine ordered doing the ac test , piggybacking 2 geni's this weekend

It would get hot in the compartment, yes. I only had it running in there for video purposes, when we use it we pull it out of the cubby. If i made an exhaust pipe for it and vented it...maybe it would be ok....lol

If you have an outlet tester, you can plug it into your generator and watch it fail over the floating neutral. I don't get why they don't do this in a inverter generators out of China, especially the 120V variety. There is an excuse for larger 240V generators because some people hook these into their homes and already have a ground-neutral bond. However for the 120V only generators, it doesn't seem anybody hooks them into stationary house power, so it doesn't make any sense to not have ground-neutral bond there. You should always have one and only one ground-neutral bond in your system. It is not safe otherwise. Your surge protector will either not be able to work or in this case refuse to work because it can't do its job without this ground-neutral bond. So when it refuses to turn on, it is actually doing the only thing it can do at that point to keep you safe, which is refuse to accept that power. Here is another way to put it. I have not heard legitimate stories of any of these Chinese inverters or inverter generators burning out due to someone setting up a ground - neutral bond. At the same time the NEC codes are there for a reason and everything is designed around them. So either you add a single ground - neutral bond when you can verify that there is none, which is very easy to check for or you operate an unsafe system. You can just look and see the label and even if you don't, just put the outlet tester in there to get a quick answer. You should have a tester anyway for your home / apartment as often there is something wrong there, especially with older homes and slumlord management for apartments. If you find you need to add this single ground - neutral bond, but are afraid of damaging your inverter / inverter generator, remember that not complying to NEC codes, especially around a ground - neutral bond can lead to you being electrocuted and subsequent death. This can be just touching any electrical appliance with a metal surface such as your toaster oven as they all may end up energized at the same time with no path back to source until you complete that circuit with your body unwittingly. Everything that is supposed to be safe to touch instead being energized is a very bad place to be all because you didn't have this ground - neutral bond there. So I would say better to burn out that PoS inverter generator now than to burn out your body later. If the inverter generator does fry, which I am pretty sure it won't, it is a lot easier to replace than your body.
