I feel like hypnosis is pretending to be hypnotized. If somebody is told "you can't open your eyes, now open your eyes" he's only pretending not to open his eyes because he wants to be hypnotized. It's just like not wanting to open your eyes, not being unable to.

You think like that until you experience that, I used to be on a lecture in university when hypnotist was brought in by university stuff just to shut us up, cause our lecturer got late. I mean there are some unfalsifiable stunts that people whom you know very well like your close friends or classmates - they just can't perform due to insufficient physical abilities. Yet they can - like some heavy lifting stunts that are impossible otherwise. You can't make a regular person become straight like a brick for 10+ minutes or to hold a +60kg girl sitting on a chest like on a bench while centimiters of his head and leg fingers rest between two chairs, unless the guy isn't some olimpic champion bodybilder. and if you know the guys for few years prior and few years after - you just know that you experienced something unusual and strange.

I love how simple it is to in fact change someone's perception. A lot of the time it's about agreeing with them at first or merely seeming to care for their outlook - which keeps them engaged, then you drop your own narrative in light of that, and they're like, "Omg yeah!" Some will come to a rational conclusion later on and be like, "wait what" but a lot of them will in fact have a drastically changed outlook. It's fun but also potentially devastating since I recognize how easily an entire nation could in essence be influenced in manners like this. There's another way that suggests confusion through questioning in a manner that one can't decisively answer, you then present a fact that is somewhat related and all of a sudden you've given them a perspective they may not even have considered to begin with or now find that perspective to be the decisive answer they're so desperately trying to provide. Uhg, if it's one thing I have learnt about the human mind it's that its often far to easily manipulated.

Common hypnosis info: "you can't be hypnotized if you don't want to be." "Some people are more suggestible than others." So hypnotism is when you ask someone to do something and they decide to obey you? Sounds like fancy peer pressure, not anything "mystical."
@KindOldRaven
@KindOldRaven 5 жыл бұрын
Hypothetically hypnoticism actually makes sense if you look into what meditative states, scientifically measurable, do to your brain. Results like severely decreased pain perception (measurable with equipment and brain monitoring) are hard to argue. It doesn't work for everyone, but it could definitely be used as a tool. Seeing someone afraid of needles getting stung by several without any response after a 'session' is nothing short of impressive, regardless of mechanism of action. Even if it's induced placebo, that's a significant effect in itself.

As a forensic psychologist I have been around professionals who used hypnotherapy. First, I am extremely skeptical about the procedure and its values. I see it more like a psychological placebo,in other words,a self persuasion mechanism. People who successfully undergo hypnotherapy,seem to possess a trait called “hypnotizability”. A final word, and this is an scientific evaluation based on empirical evidences,people under hypnosis are in total control of themselves, and would never do anything they would normally find highly objectionable. That aside, I've always wanted to try hypnotherapy. I can see multiple areas where it might be helpful for me. Unfortunately, for someone like myself who has no income and insurance that won't even consider alternative types of therapy or treatments, this isn't even an option.

I am a mentalist and if everything you say is right then I should be able to increase my skills to become a hypnotist as well. Im still a skeptic of the act put on. Mentalists and magicians do the same thing they put on a show. Magic isnt real and as it seems to be. All 3 have that in common and the one thing they also have in common is its just a trick. Mentalism: tricks, science, targeted guessing such as the most common card in a 52 deck of cards (the ace of spades), intuition is a key factor too. The mentalist/magician asks the questions and makes the magic happen. I feel like that is more of a fun talent that everybody can enjoy. Hypnotism, if real, seems too sketchy from the horror stories I've heard online.

Brain waves can be detected with an EEG machine, the brain is capable of differing states, I.e beta, alpha, theta, delta, gamma. Hypnosis helps induce theta wave state, which is the state the mind goes into during REM sleep. This is the same state a child lives in up to about 7 years of age, hense why their imagination and creative play feels so real. In this state the mind is impressionable, hense why we refer to children's mind like a sponge, they absorb everything, the subconscious mind as less resistance. You could think if it like you was hypnotised, conditioned to be the person you have become based on many things that have been installed into your mind from childhood. Cognitive dissonance is a conflict in the mind so if you were to feel this from a suggestion made, you yourself would automatically refuse acceptance of the suggestion. You are in control at all times, and will only accept suggestions that your mind is willing to accept without conflict.

Would be very interested in being deeply hypnotised - but on the three occasions I've taken part in an audience (not yours) and asked to put the hands together - I've unfortunately had no difficulty opening them - despite trying to be compliant and not 'fighting' against it. I guess people like me whose hands would easily unlock, but who undertake hypnotherapy will get much poorer results than those who are easily susceptible?

@stefanbachrodt7072
@stefanbachrodt7072 5 жыл бұрын
They're one in the same brotherman! Meditation is in essence the means of entering the hypnotic state. a Hypnotic state is in fact a natural state of mind that we all experience on a daily basis. Every time you find your mind, "drifting" from the current objective, you've actually entered into a state of self hypnosis. The mind naturally does this and therefore we ARE ALL able to be, "hypnotized". Just not in the sense that hypnotists so often suggest.

I take strong exception to the statement made repeatedly that these people are more creative that the rest of us. I'm highly creative and imaginative. I just don't believe every suggestion simply because it is suggested. To me this speaks more to a lack of critical thinking than to creativity. Will you turn off your critical thinking simply because someone asks you to? My answer is always no. Never! I might make an exception if I was in therapy with a licensed hyponotist and that I decided to trust them completely.
@JimKellner
@JimKellner 6 жыл бұрын
You are simply not a good candidate, at this time, to be a stage hypnosis volunteer. Those that are best for stage work have a gift - their unconscious minds accept suggestions quicker than most of us do. Typically these individuals think in pictures and tend to be more creative. They are also OPEN to the experience. Regardless of how creative one is if they are not open to the experience, it won't happen. This is not to say that others are not creative. Some people are naturally better at math or languages than I am. I don't beat myself up over it, I focus on my strengths. It sounds like you are more suited to hypnotherapy.

Jim Kellner I find your choice of words very interesting. It seems what you are really saying is that they are more gullible and easily manipulated than most, except you spin that to sound like a positive thing. I don't see those traits as desirable, even your spun versions. But I suppose if you told them they were more gullible or more easily manipulated than others, they would be far less likely to volunteer. I don't mean to put words in your mouth. I just think its just controlling your body, like, when You daydream, your soul comes out of your body and you will look directly at a spot and if you move your eyes you get out of your daydream and your soul comes back to your body! There's this thing that you have to swing to get to hypnotised a person It looks like a clock or in can be used to any swinging thing. It just looks cool, But this person is hypnotising is kinda what other people who panic says Just a matter of fact that I don't know if its rare or uncommon to not get hypnotised my a master of hipnotier But at least we are watching a show that people are constantly eyeing on these hipnotizic people And its cool if you have a power or your a hero or just a magician But hipnotizers and my FAVOURITE Like when I saw one before I LOVED THE SHOW *it was old so I forgot the show name* But its great to have a magic trick *Mhm but this is my edit* *One time I went to this store in 2015 there was a hipnotizer and HE hypnotised me* I just slept for 3 minutes but it was COOL *another time I went to the circus and they showed us a hipnotiser and She hypnotised the owner of the CIRCUS and it was so cool* Aight, that's all I gotta say. -muna hamed

Can we talk about this guy's failure rate (aka the rest of the audience that didn't go on stage because they could pull their hands apart). We know a certain portion of the population will always be very impressionable. People join cults and kill themselves for them. So it's not unexpected that certain people will be "hypnotized."
@basereality8485

most of the time its not staged. Hypnosis on a stage in front of an audience is a preset to have the participant believe that if they don't follow along they will be alone. no one wants to be alone, so they follow. usually the hypnotists are very charming, nice people and the participate wants to loyally follow to avoid being the oddball out. the solution would be to have multiple oddballs, that way the participate won't feel bad for showing control....then the hypnotist can just say something like " that's ok some people aren't as easily hypnotized" and the ones who are still pretending will stick together, because they have been assigned as easily hypnotized. its now to late. they must follow. with that said placebo and suggestions are completely real.

no matter how nice and charming hypnotist you are - you just can't ask (suggest whatever ) a person to go over his physical strength capabilities - exactly what I've seen. You make some compelling comments Base, but your assertion is incorrect in many ways. I've had situations where only one person got hypnotized and was the only one left on stage. Also in street hypnosis there is usually just one participant at a time.

Jim Kellner.....DMT experience claims are similar, and they all connected to the all consciousness, some claimed infinity knowledge. If you can manage to do an experiment (with multi session off course recording) and try to unlock the knowledge from hypnotize DMT users. That would be great. Joe Rogan would be a great candidate...and some other KZbinrs that have used and spoke aloud about DMT. It will be a break through about hypnosis and the spiritual molecule.

What happens if someone complains about depression, is hypnotized to feel better, but is actually chronically low in Vitamin D? In that case, if you can be hypnotized, you lose.
@chucku.farley981
@chucku.farley981 6 жыл бұрын
A trained hypnotist would insist to consult a doctor BEFOREHAND if the patient complains about depression since it is a relative contraindication for hypnotherapy. That said hypnosis can be a valuable tool with a very good rate of success in cases of easy, medium and reactive depressions (in cases of very heavy endogenous depressions it should be used ACCOMPANIED). In that case, if you can be hypnotized, you win! EDIT: I just noticed that due to a typing error (or maybe it was for me around 3 a.m. while writing this) the autocorrect changed "accompanied" to "conductive" and therefore changed the complete meaning of the sentence. EDIT 2: added "beforehand" Both corrected (see caps locked above)

@@chucku.farley981 I do see the potential value, but I personally don't believe any hypnotist is qualified enough to determine if a patient's issues (regardless of how mild they may be) are a result of an underlying medical issue or not. By hypnotizing, the mind's pain is effectively bypassed, which may circumvent the body's natural way of informing the individual that something is fundamentally wrong.
@qu4ntum81
@qu4ntum81 6 жыл бұрын
Also, it can take years or decades for a doctor to determine the root cause of a medical issue that manifests itself as an altered state of mind. If a doctor can't immediately determine the cause, it doesn't mean it's a non-medical problem with the patient's mind. Not saying it's wrong to utilize hypnosis, but there is a good chance it is acting as a smoke screen (imo), and the patient should be made aware of that.
