Fasting is as overlooked as working out and staying fit. M, W, F every week I ate nothing for 24 hours, every W I also drank no water. I did this for personal reasons and offered everything up. I did this for one year. It really changed my body, but that change in me was small compared to my new perspective. There were many 12:01 days early on when I ate! I am in my 50's. If at all possible, put that experience and new perspective in your back pocket. Great advice MP. Good video.

Thank you Magic for bringing this up. In April, after taking time to wean myself off of medicine that I no longer needed but required me to have eaten first, I also challenged this misconception in myself, that I just couldn't fast. I took time during a break from work, to fast for 3 days. I was amazed at how easy it was and that I didn't get a headache, which was my fear. I lost some pounds (which made me happy), got control of my "wanter" and also could see how this would enhance my prayer life. I now fast 2 non consecutive days per week and have seen continued weight loss and have also seen a decrease in the food bill. I'm thankful that I have challenged myself BEFORE it is a necessity. Getting off of the pharmaceutical train will also be adventageous for all of those that can safely do so. Thank you Magic for taking this road and speaking about it ❤️.

When I was a boy scout I was able to take part in a camping trip that heavily limited our food the first day, fasted the second and then got break our fast lunch of the third day with a celebration feast. This was when I was in high school and while we were there we had to do physical tasks like cleaning up camp gathering wood and learning survival skills, had story time around a huge bon fire the second night, basically kept us busy while also showing us what we could do on very little food. One of my favorite memories of all the times getting to go camping. when you are working and keeping busy you don't notice the hunger. It's when you stop and allow yourself to get bored that you notice it and your willpower starts to get sapped. I also distinctly remember after the "feast" I probably ate about half of what I normally would have, but my stomach had shrunk so much, I was absolutely stuffed. For a healthy human fasting is quite good for the body.

At one point in my life I was near 300 pounds with just enough strength to make it through the work week . I ended up doing 72 hour fasts for seven months straight. Only eating one meal every three days while also working out six days a week. In the end I lost over 115 pounds. That was over a year ago and even though I eat one meal every day and sometimes do a three day fast one or twice every month. I still work out six days a week and I have never felt better in my life. Once you do it for a few months pretty much become normalized to it. It’s all mind over matter.

Exactly. In my area, the Hillbilly Elegy life is common (glad I found a reasonably known movie to give people a reference for what I mean.) We've all gone without meals, water, heat, cars, we've all had to rely on someone else and be weary of others, and even violence is reasonably common here. When you have to, you do, and you do fine. Choosing not to eat when you have the option will actually be harder than not eating when you don't have the option, so it's good practice. Lots of people don't eat because they can't, and still have to go fill water buckets, work on their cars, fix their broken pipes, get the kids to and from the bus stop, all types of stuff even well fed people never have to get out and do plus all the normal things we all have to do.

@@godwarrior3403 that was kinda my thought. I need to at least know how this feels.

@@MagicPrepper My experience is not necessarily with total lack of food. The literal worst it's been was a period of time where we would have one loaf of bread, some peanut butter, and 12 eggs, for 3 people, sometimes 4, for two weeks at a time. Been plenty of times where we ONLY had poptarts and cereal in the house, and God help you if you used up all the milk. Better have ONE reasonably sized bowl ONCE a day 😂 The biggest fear was pissed off mothers to be sure 😂 We spent most of winters without heat, after our tank ran out. Keeping under blankets, wearing layers in doors. And then of course, the pipes would bust and we'd be out of water for a minute til mom could get down there and fix them, or get someone else to if we didn't have the money or supplies. Plenty of periods of time without a vehicle. Long periods without bathing. During those heatless waterless winters we'd melt snow and use it to flush and heat it up in a big crock pot to take wh*res baths. Oh and that's another thing we went without a lot, electric. Been plenty of times the food went bad. Didn't really soldier on through that one. Mom would scrounge up the cash one way or another and it'd be back on pretty quick. During these times, we very often still had places to go and things to do. Pipes don't just break in the winter, so there were many summers of filling water jugs at someone else's home and bringing it back to ours, in a legit red kid's wagon 😂 Usually had a garden to tend. A large yard to mow, Pipes to fix, a $500 beater car that needed worked on, always SOMETHING to get done, regardless of the circumstances. My opinion is that only mentally weak people need worry about encountering it and failing to do what they need to do. I do know people that wouldn't make it very well. They are unable to take discomfort, and they have gotten it in their brain that things like food are more important than they are, and will justify their anger, irritability, unwillingness to do the work needed, and their overall bad attitude, because they're hungry. Mentally strong people will suffer initially because it is such a drastic shift, but after you adapt, you really won't notice anymore as long as you have SOMETHING to keep from literally starving to death. It's really true that the people who live like that don't think about it to the point of being disabled in despair or hunger. Life goes on. Of course, it is an eternal race to fix the situation. You don't have food, so the mission is to get it. You don't have running water, so the mission is to get it. You don't slack on solving the problem, but the mentality is legit "Ope, this is what we gotta do now." Only a specifically soft mind unwilling to be tough will falter in the face of it. The bigger thing imo is gonna be people who turn to crime because of it. THAT is a huge issue in these places. I knew a family who pimped out their daughter from ages 8-12. I knew tons of thieves. That was considered to be expected. You don't let certain people know what you have, don't leave certain people alone in your house, expect padlocks to be cut off your sheds, expect tools to be stolen, etc. I've even seen the situation of someone breaking in and SAing a woman. And I know people who unfortunately dealt with that repeatedly. I even know people who have killed people. And I don't mean vets. When it comes to starving, mindset is the first thing to make sure you have down. You won't make it if you're a baby. But if these conditions are widespread and long lasting, the bigger problem is gonna be the wolves. The human kind. I know that's two different issues, and toughnening up can't be ignored, but I personally think you don't have to do fasting specifically if you do other things to keep yourself mentally prepared for discomfort, because a tough mind will adapt to that situation. My takeaway from living how I did is after mindset, understand the crime element will be real. I'm from a yt trash place, not the hood, but where I'm from, slimy people and crime is expected, not shocking or unique. You naturally assume everybody is into something illegal and will do you bad if there is gain in doing so. I'd personally tell people to prepare for that more intentionally, after they got a reasonable amount of mental toughness. These days all I do for toughness is ride in the vehicle without heat during winter, unless it's so cold it becomes impossible to drive safe without it. And I think little stuff like that is enough. Imo it ain't THAT excruciating to go without. It IS excruciating hearing about the horrible shit people do to each other during hard times though. An unreal amount of people somehow grow cold to the wrong they do. My upbringing is specifically why I shake my head when naive people say stuff like "people are mostly good." Maybe when they're comfortable they won't do you evil unprovoked, like a shark that's recently eaten. That's as much as I'll grant them. Long reply, but it is how I see it as someone who lived in poverty for many years. Mid level mental toughness, achieved in whatever way actually tests you, and high level people defense, is what I recommend.

The longest forced food fast was last year for 4 mths. I lived off liquids. I drank protein shakes until I could no longer get them down on the 4th month. I spent that month living off water and tea until I could not get those down, and then I checked myself into the ER. I was in full-blown malnutrition and dangerous dehydration because I hadn't drunk in two days. I have a Schatzki ring in my esophagus that completely closed off at the end of the 4 mths. The doctor found it in April 2023 and took a month to find a GI doctor who would touch me. His earliest appointment was on August 26th, 2023. I went to ER on July 21st 2023. I have had two esophageal stents and am getting a 3rd one in November this year. This was all caused by acid reflux. I don't recommend following my path if you have chronic heartburn. Didn't shower for six weeks on a climbing expedition in Alaska. Went 2-2 1/2 weeks many times on winter ski traverses in Wyoming and Canada. Doesn't phase me a bit. Hope SHTF happens in winter.

@@MagicPrepper I practice intermittent fasting and one week I decided I was going to give a 3 day fast a try for a few reasons one I want to know what 3 days of not eating did to me, how I felt how I reacted under stress, what my ability to think was like. I also heard that your immune system gets a reset and your body goes into autophagy which is supposedly good for you. It was a really interesting experience.

Very practical applied approach. I’m 48 and started intermittent fasting to avoid the middle age woman figure 😆 I eat within a 5 hour window and it works out great! Highly suggest doing it during SHTF if it came to that! Thanks for the food for thought 😎

Im very much to eating only once, maybe twice a day at times. Ive fasted many times. Longest I've had to go without food so far in my life was about six days. I can deal without food for quite some time. Its good to realize that it takes about thirty days to starve to death, and to jot be a lil whiney b*tch when shtf and you have to ration food.

At some time in history some person did something for the first time ever. That person couldn't do it, then did. He managed. Some of those things weren't really intuitive or easy to figure out, but someone did. Wanting to live is a heck of a teacher.

Back when I was in a working band we would be on the road and sometimes go a few days without eating but we usually had chemical assistance. Those days are long past though. I should probably give it a shot one weekend. I can't do it during the week as my job is far too physically demanding and I would be extra miserable

I remember my band days. There were definitely times where we only ate if the venue offered food. So we had a mostly liquid diet...

I did a 24 hour, ate then 48 hour and at that point I did more. Once thing this did, it reversed my pre-diabities and normalized my cholesterol levels after a month on intermittent fasting. Now that I gained all my lost weight back I am starting to feel sluggish; my own fault. This was a great video to start it all over again.

Why is being hungry intentionally an accomplishment lol They do this in the military for training, but they don't just fast. They starve, and they're actively training. Drills, marches, etc. "I can go three days w/out eating" cool, now go three days w/out eating, then run 5 miles, fight off a bear, ruck 20. Did you survive that? That's where it counts.
@USA-Self-Defense-Centers2 ай бұрын
@@codyschaffer7788 The opposite is true. Our ancestors didn't eat three meals a day. It's an inefficient use of your digestive system. Fasting only seems like a problem from the false perspective that three meals a day is the norm. Also, once your body adapts you don't reallky get hungry.
@codyschaffer77882 ай бұрын
@@USA-Self-Defense-Centers yeah you sound like somebody who's just tried yoga and now has to prostleatize about all the magical benefits it has even though we've known about stretching forever Fasting: try it to actually know how it feels -- it has no use in prepping. The point of prepping in the first place is to outlast whatever starving hoards descend on you later on. If you, for some reason, decided to go w/out food for 3 days just to make it last, and then the mauraders roll up on you, you've actually put yourself in a horrible situation lol. Just food for thought. I guess a lot of you literally haven't been hungry before

Doing something by 'choice' is not the same as doing something 'without' a choice... Reminds me of a discredited celebrity who once road along with the garbage collectors in NYC for three days (1990's). His conclusion was; "That wasn't so bad." But he 'knew' going in and during, it's only for three days, and he's back to his spotless desk. Where as those doing it know it's the same drill day after day... Keeping that belief that there IS 'light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel' (HOPE) is critical... NOTE: 'TIME' is the killer, for it makes the Light get dimmer.

Very inspirational video Magic! I have had the intent of doing a 72 hour fast for about a year now 😅 But I keep putting it off cuz it just isn’t the ”right time“ Don’t wanna be grouchy around my family, but I know I should have the experience… I also want to mention that it’s an excellent mindset to tell yourself “never say *I can’t* “ I always try to teach my kids this lesson and reinforce it. Beyond that, I started vaping nicotine last October when my beloved cat died. Pretty bummed about it but I will quit before this October 🙏🏽 After quitting nicotine, Im gonna make some time to do some starvation training.
@chupacabra3042 ай бұрын
That being said , i’ve read that starvation training is really beneficial, (WHEN DONE RESPONSIBLY AND INTELLIGENTLY) your body will initiate phagocytosis of the more damaged , weakened cells, which in turn lowers chance of cancer supposedly
