If you want to work with artists as a music producer, it's important to do these things...and frankly, if you won't, you should just stop working with people.

I've never done this, but I find it weird how its taboo only in the music industry. Sports people hook up with sports people, office people with office people, and don't even get me started about what goes on between cruise ship staff...

I don't care about the business or who it thinks is an artist. I'm just gonna try to find people who are on a similar path as I am, and ignore everything else. The music industry has made it perfectly clear it has a very different view of what creativity looks like than I do. But, it's just responding to what generates profits. So, I can't really put all the blame with them.

What I love about this video is it all goes down to the basic decency of respect. Respecting artists, and collaborating with them with ones incredible talent to come together and create an incredible experience. Being able to communicate effectively but honestly without manipulation is so important. This is life gold, not just production centered. Next, I say this online all the time, it’s about the journey not the destination. Not everyone has money to put on plug-ins, they have just as value as anyone else. It’s about how you get there and *that’s* valid. I never recommend plugins, I recommend how to execute a technique with the plugins they have IF THEY ASK. I’m so frustrated with the toxic environment, and it is so so good to watch videos like this, thank you for this video! The last thing I’ll add, especially online, not everything is okay to critique. It’s something I notice as a person who mainly does stuff online. If someone shares a song on a production chat, it’s not an open forum unless it’s a space dedicated to that. Being able to listen is so important, and appreciate what others’ do. It may not be what you think is the best, but going online and seeing others’ bash people to the point where they suggest quitting production is a massive no, and it breaks my heart to see, and it’s more common in places like SoundCloud. We are going to be critiqued as artists, it’s the name of the game, but that cirque should be respectful of the time, effort, and intrinsic value that creator has both as a human and an artist. Thank you!

@@batphink2655 That’s the thing. Many will not agree, many won’t respect it, but hey, doesn’t mean I have to be like them. 🤷‍♂️. I’d rather be and show the change, don’t really care if people agree or care. I’ll know I do me, and I’ll let them be them.

Not sure how I got here but I watched anyway. But now I am confused - in the pop/charts kinda genre (sorry I have no clue, I never listen(ed) to any pop/hiphop/rock kinda music) isn't the producer mostly "the actual artist" and the "artist" is just a puppet giving a face and voice (if even) to the songs and make a kind of branding from it? I have no clue here 😂🤷

I’m really talking about producers that bands, or singers will come to them with songs that they’ve already written to help finish them and record them, not so much the type of music where the producer makes the entire beat and then the artist just sings over it! Sometimes it’s a mix of both, really just depends on the project.

My experience with producers is they were nearly ALL 'Cokeheads' or egomaniacs so not so good, but today I do it all except make videos. It is very hard not to give up with NO support at all from family or my longtime friends lol. I refuse to use Auto-tune it sucks, Good comment!

1st thing people need to do is learn the differences between the roles within studio culture. A lot of people say there producers but there not, a producer is someone that gets records made, there not usually an artist making the music. They more often than not mix, this job is left to mixing engineers. You get geniuses who can do it all like Dr Dre artist/producer/mixing engineer, but most people do not have the skillset to cross all 3. On youtube theres a lot of producers, but there not very good music artists and there average mixing engineers. If you cant tick all 3 you will struggle to compete at the high end. Its better to be a great artist, who get to know a great producer who then utilises a great mix engineer, this is how Ed Sheeran became the global success he is, also Adelle, Drake etc........... Dont try to be everything, be 1 specific and find a team to help. If your a mixing engineer dont waste time producing, if your into artist creation of music dont waste time producing or mixing. Jack of all trades master of none or great specialist, choose 1 aspect and be great at that aspect, avoid wasting time trying to do it all. Mixing Engineers are in greater demand than producers, there are 1000s of studios where producers will help make your records come to reality, theres not that many mixing engineers who can get your mixes sounding as good as a billboard chart record.

We share a google drive and I ask for her email so she could be shared in the drive and my dude freaked out on me…I’m not even into her. It made me feel shitty at the time but damn I just wanted to make a cool song with my friends and dude made it weird. Or maybe I made it weird idk

you should be more carefully what you saying and how you saying, cos in the matter of fact you can just DEMORALIZED somebody, truly. You could be a beginner, but work really, really hard, have knowledge about music production and had a great ideas for the record, and you never, never know what happened afterwards. If I will have 20 years old waching your video truly I would stop making music. Lastly I believe in my artistic vision as hell ;) Have a nice day ;)

My point is obviously that artists should have the final say on how their art comes out, at least in situations where they're the one paying for the production. If you're a producer and you won't defer to the artist, and try force them to sound a certain way that they don't want do, that's not acceptable. If you're working with a label/A&Rs and you've got the green light to make those kinds of executive decisions, then do it, of course. But until then you're offering a service to a paying customer.
