As an italian immigrant living in Brighton I can guarantee you that us, the about 400k italian nationals living in England we feared for our lives for 3/4 days everytime we stepped out our homes. Xenophobic attacks against italian resturants, shops and people increased exponetially during the 2 days before the final, and during the day after the final and during matchday. A freind of mine who owns a resturant in London got his resturant's window smashed by some stones thrown by some drunk hooligans who were shouting "kill the whops". Plus our and Denmark's national anthems got booed and disturbed by those cunts.

The whole situation was very tragic with all the horrific stuff being said online. Am from England and the team did very well to get us to the finals. Me and my family and friends were all very excited to watch all the games, even when we lost it wasn't too big of a let down, just the aftermath. The England team made me immensely proud by reaching the final, and also how they showed solidarity for one another. The racism shown after the defeat was rightly condemned by most, but I'm feeling a horrible mixture of concern and being proven right as I've been trying to say things have been getting worse over here recently. Okay, hang on a sec. I think I found where the glitch in the matrix is occurring. Around 1:00 you say "racially abuse, or just abuse at all." I agree with you that race should have nothing to do with the critique of a players performance or character, its antiquated, unrelated and small minded thinking. But establishing a line between (non racial) "abuse" and "banter" would be smart to establish. Sports fans are naturally always going to talk shit to each other, its part of it. So people will continue to say awful things, even if not racist, under the banner of "no its not abuse its just bants m8." Unless you set a line everyone will say "well when I did it, it was good natured banter. Its the other people who are the problem." Edit: I just dont get it. I am not someone who is up on the latest social justice issues or what not. I have my stances, I try to learn and evolve. But the idea that you should love or hate someone for their race alone is so antithetical to being human. We have all these complex pattern recognition methods in our minds to find out if someone is good or bad. Stopping at "Where is their oldest ancestry from" is so irrelevant to the end product of a person its effectively worse than just random guessing. And why they couldnt find a way around this to protest common sense things like, you know, the police beating people to death regularly and getting away with it, I have no idea. Like make a movement so kneeling on your right knee is protesting government abuse of power through the police, and left is to specifically support the anti-racism cause. I dont care if one side and the other dont directly agree as long as they work together towards achieving the obviously needed goal.
