My grandfather died in 1981. He was an artist and had made a metal band for a watch. The band was attached to a 1977 automatic timex. The watch has been in a safety deposit box since 1981. My mom got all the contents of the box and I got the watch. Wound it a little, put it on, and have been wearing it for the past three days and it keeps good time and keeps running over night. Not too shabby for something that hasn’t been running for 42 years.

Since so many people’s first watch was a Timex, the potential love for the brand is huge. They’re defo going in the right direction now and with none of the polarising brand baggage of…er…for example…TAG…if Timex can keep producing cool, interesting designs they can go from strength to strength.

I’ve had my Timex expedition chronograph TW4B12300 (that you reviewed) for about two years. I’m still amazed that TIMEX can produce a watch with a steel case, skeleton hands, orange tipped stopwatch hand, double rehaut with notches, framed date window, and indiglo, and wrap it up into a nice Flieger design for less than $50! Amazing. And with the Timex name behind it, you have at least some chance of getting a resolution to any problem, compared to an unknown brand. I understand that it’s not a Rolex (I have a Submariner), and it will never have the build quality or quality control of a Rolex… but still… to be able to put that together for less than $50?? I enjoy wearing mine tremendously, not just because I like the look, but partly because it is such an amazing value.

My grandpa used Timex, to which I use one that looks the same and never have let me down. I knew some folks (Toolmakers) that used to work in one of the original manufacturing companies in Waterbury / Middlebury, CT. Waterbury watches are just simple, inexpensive and get the job done. I love Timex! 👍👍

I received a typical "We noticed you saw our watch in our site" email regarding chronographs, I didn't care much but then I saw this picture in the same email showing off this black dial Timex diver I never seen before in someone's palm. It was almost love at first sight and immediately went for the Timex site again. Found out that Timex released a brand new automatic diver aka the black/green Waterbury mentioned here in the video. Man Timex is killing it! I need these divers now. I can deal without sapphire for that price... I think...yes...yes I can.

Agree on most points. My first watch was a Timex Mercury (mechanical - hand wound watch from the 70s) that my Grandmother gave me when I was about 10 years old. I recently found one and it sits right on the watch corner next to my Rolexes. That watch started me on my watch collecting journey that has led to dozens in my collection all the way up to my Daytona. Love Timex.

I don't currently own a Timex, but their Ironman digital watches were my everyday watch when I was in high school and college simply because I ran cross country and track, and there's nothing better than that watch for running. Recently, I kind of did what you did in this video and was poking around the Timex website, and was blown away by the plethora of options available. I particularly have my eye on the Marlin reissues, as I'm a sucker for that 1960's aesthetic.

In one year (also from the time this video is on line) I bought four Timex, and got as much pleasure as a watch collector as I did 20 years ago while buying a Rolex. So yes, indeed they are to the point. And we need quartz watches ! I have a big garden, a motorbike, we are traveling my wife and I, often towards the french riviera so we are swimming etc. All activities for which mechanical watches are best left in their box, while a Timex Expedition fills the bill perfectly ( I paid mine 43 euro, that is about 45 dollar) since years. I think a collection should gather them all: beautifull pieces, but also simpler ones, tool watches, etc, in order to cope with all situations. I particularly like my Timex "Pan-am" chronograph, a splendid one and still a daily wearer.

Timex Ironman was my first real watch as a pre-teen and stayed with me all the way into college. But after that basically completely ignored Timex. I kinda got into the watch hobby right around 2018...and only then did I realize the significance of Timex as a company. I had no idea how much history Timex as a company had. And my interest with watches just happens to be right about the time of this recent Timex renaissance which kinda kicked off with the Q. So yeah I've picked a few these past couple years, including an Ironman (which I love as much as my G-Shocks) that Waterbury Diver and even a Giorgio Galli (never thought I'd spend that kind of money on a Timex and it was worth it). They really have been putting out some nice pieces, although none are flawless and they have room for improvement. I think the struggle with Timex is they are still sensitive to being that everyday, every person, affordable watch brand. But the way the watch market is today its nice they've started to figure out that what watch enthusiasts want is also what that gets everyday people to pay attention and can separate them from other generic affordable watches. So hopefully they continue to lean into the fact they are a tried and true watch company and not just a company that makes watches.

I've owned and loved many an Ironman, Indiglo, etc., and am always rooting for affordables. That said, just checked out the Timex website on these new mechanicals and from some of the negative customer reviews it sounded like QC issues (a bezel falling off, a movement issue, bracelet issue), etc. And to me, even though I generally feel many homages are fair game, some of these just rubbed me the wrong way as kind of half-hearted. So for now, to me, Orient remains the go-to in the sub $300 genre, and once we get towards $500, would point to Zelos and other micros. But hey, I'd be thrilled to be wrong and would celebrate if Timex steps it up---I did really like their Pepsi / Batman bezels on these and the bracelet design, and appreciated that it looked like a modified Miyota movement.

Great video. Really enjoy all your videos. I started collecting Timex watches at the beginning of Covid. I have quiet a few watches in my collection but didn't have one single Timex. Rolex, IWC, Zeppelins, LumiNox's, Citizens but no Timex. I have found a lot of watches that I would have never thought existed until I found Timex, (Time, Temp, Tide, Compass) and Linear Chronographs, a lot of complications per watch, and chronographs that have an active large second hand, not just it being stationary with a small second hand at 6 o'clock. And most of the ones I found (yeah EBay) are new in the box from the 80's. There are a lot of great finds on Ebay with Timex watches. The field watch you show here I have two of them, in the box 35-40.00. I think now I have about 30 timex watches. And guess what my everyday goto watch is now.....yeap Timex. My newest brand that I am adding to my collection is the Casio Pro Trek PRW-6800-1JF and the PRO TREK PRW-6800Y-1JF. NOTE: At this current time, Casio is only selling these in the Japan market, in the USA it is the PRW-6900, however it is totally different than this one, however the second had does double as a compass needle.

I use a Timex Weekender as my daily. The reason - it does what the whole purpose of a watch, and that is, to be able to tell the time. And my Timex does that very well, being legible at a glance. I once got a traffic ticket for making an illegal left turn during certain times, because I misread the time on a Movado watch without numbers or hash marks. So, any watches I purchase today have to be very functional.

Timex quartz watches are great for accurate time keeping, and being able to take physical abuse. The only cost for maintenance is changing the battery. The best deal with any quartz watch is to get the LCD type display. These are the most shock resistant and longest lasting. In their higher end watches their mechanical type watches are very good for the price. The most shock resistant watches I've had were the Casio G-Shock. Accuracy is very good with these. For general use when working and doing things that can be dangerous for a watch I am wearing Casio and Timex watches. Being low cost I can buy new ones at any time I want.

Timex uses mostly miyota movement which you didn't talk much about and the quality of the watches are iffy. Their in house movements are not easily serviceable and are made to be disposal. Might as well buy Chinese homage watches which use seiko nh35 movements with sapphire crystal which gives more bang for the buck than a Timex. Therefore, am not surprised why Timex was ignored by collectors except idiots. And timex were idiots most of the decades offering battery watches instead of solar ones. Timex is no match for Casio or citizen.

I still have my old pre-indiglow Ironman from the 80’s, an Acqua indiglow from the mid 90’s, antiqued brass 40mm Weekender (that’s the best looking one and had a comfortable leather nato, why the hell did they discontinue it?), a few MK1 aluminum cases in different colors… Casio just kind of took over the cheap Everyman watch market. Every timex Ironman that I bought never made it past 6 months, either the band broke, the battery died because my hand kept hitting the mode and adjust buttons while I was working or I'll scratch up the glass aka cheap "plastic" and I couldn't see the time. The only thing I like about Timex is the back lights on their watches.

I've always had favorable impression of Timex growing up. I still have the one I had when I was 10. But the thing about Timex I have a hard time getting past is, for years and even now, about the only time I notice a Timex watch is in a messy pile on the department store shelf along with the Armitrons and Goodfellows and the underwear someone decided not to buy. To anyone not watching watch channels on youtube the impression of the Timex brand of watches might be that it's a disposable item you just get because you need it for work or you have a wedding to go to and mom wants you to at least make an effort to look like you're trying. I really wish Timex would improve the way their brand is protected. Until then, I guess my hot take is Timex = Target.

I had an iron man.. hated it and it cost near $100, though I have my grandfathers sleek and dressy Timex, and it eats batterjes, but it was his.

Timex Ironman was my childhood watch, when my peers had casio I had the more premium ironman. I re-brought the oldskool version too. Also Arnold Schwarzenegger wore it in one of his films , so technically I had a movie watch too

They seem to go through batteries quicker than Casios, maybe due to louder alarms and brighter backlight. Perhaps this is an acceptable trade-off.

You never mentioned the Q Timex GMT 38mm, which even though they’re quartz, they are some of the cheapest entry level GMTs on the market!

Timex are very capable of making high quality watches. I have a couple of old Timex Helix (different to the current Helix range) that are amazing. One is a feature rush digital watch and the other a Swiss quartz analog chrono.

I love Ironmans. In my opinion the “classic” Ironman shock with 200m water resistance beats most other sports watches. I absolutely hate that they use snap on backs on most of their analogue watches. Especially that chrono you showed. The new heart rate iron man classic is great. Tracks steps, distance, calories, heart rate etc, doesn’t require a smart phone and looks like an Ironman class. Best part; a nice battery door that can be twisted open with the very CR2032 battery you’re about to install. They have hits and misses. For me, it’s all about the Ironman watches. I don’t like anything else they make.

I like Timex as a brand and they have some cool collaborations, however most of them have terrible designs while the watch itself isn’t bad at all…

I'm getting a bit of watch fatigue. I think timex has to move up market. People have phone now to tell the time. Watches are more jewelry that tell the time now. I also found this out. Before the pandemic, Rolex sales dropped 20%, Rolex bounce back as people bought Rolex as investment watches.
