Comparison is the thief of joy... particularly comparing yourself to others like you said. The only person we should ever compare ourselves to is our past selves. While that's easier said than done, it's 100% true. Great video Vincent!

@@VincentChan Of course man! I've definitely fallen victim to this in competitive pursuits I've done in my life such as playing basketball competitively in high school and into college... however, from a financial success perspective, being a smaller KZbinr myself, I've found myself comparing myself to bigger KZbinrs who make a very comfortable living through their channels but at the end of the day I try to remind myself how unbelievably lucky I am to have found the success I have so far. Once I compare my success on YT now to even just 6 months ago, I'm reminded of how blessed I really am. Those goalposts keep moving, but you have to take the time to enjoy the journey at the same time.

This video made me want to cry lol. I think it’s one of the first compassionate finance videos I’ve seen. You highlighted something that not many people on KZbin do - it’s not about just making money, but why you want to make more money. I feel the same way in wanting to just be able to care for the people I love, and also make sure they never have to worry about being homeless again. I want to be able to afford my necessities easily and never have to think about them in fear ever again. I want to see a world outside of the United States so I can expand my mind beyond what I’ve known my whole life. Thank you for making finance more than just numbers and actually caring about helping us.

@@VincentChan Honestly I’ve had to stop using things like Instagram, as I think that’s the worst app for me to be on. I keep a small few people on my watch list on KZbin to avoid feeling overwhelmed and such. I’m an illustrator, so I watch a lot of art creatives- though I take breaks because seeing amazing artists who have made it their full time job as independent creators makes me feel like I’m not working enough to get there or that my art isn’t good enough. I used to work for the Care Bears brand until I realized I hated making art for someone else that makes way more than I’ll ever see in my lifetime. So I started over. Im struggling to find strength in myself, but I’ll keep trying.

It's easy to feel financially jealous of others, especially in the age of social media where everyone seems to be living their best life. But it's important to remember that everyone's financial journey is different and comparison is not always helpful. Instead, focus on your own goals and work towards them at your own pace. Remember that financial success is a marathon, not a sprint!

Just listening to this video made me see that this could apply to relationships as well. Some people get married and/or have kids because "I'm SUPPOSED to do this! It's ' normal'!", then they wind up unhappy when they realize they were only doing what society MOLDED them to do.

Top 5 Takeaways: Financial jealousy can be harmful and costly in the long run. Feeling financially jealous stems from the belief that opportunities are limited. To overcome feelings of financial jealousy, focus on how you react to the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Redefine your personal money and success goals with your fire number. Rather than comparing yourself to others, compare yourself to your past self and focus on self-improvement. How to Implement: Recognize when you're feeling financially jealous and try to understand where it's coming from. Change your belief about opportunities being limited by focusing on the abundance of possibilities. Shift your focus from others to yourself and take action towards achieving your own goals. Calculate your own personal fire number and work towards achieving financial independence. Celebrate your past financial accomplishments and focus on self-improvement rather than comparing yourself to others.

@@VincentChan well thanks to videos like this one and my researches, I saw that it is meaningless to be jealous of wealth. Usually wealthy people or people with successful careers have their path of life drawn by their parents. It is also a sign of a shallow character to be jealous of someones wealth or salary imo. But as a 22 yo male, I admire people who have a passion about any topic and have their life purposes straight. Besides people like elon musk, bill gates, steve jobs one of the best examples would be you ofc. You have found out your passion and purpose. You are making your moves and decisions in your life towards these values and this makes your life meaningful. However, I am still directionless and depressed about it. I have grown out all my addictions to focus on living a happy and meaningful life but I have no subject that I can devote myself into. Thats how I feel rn

I will be a bit vulnerable here. I initially started on Twitch because my husband suggested it could be something I could do on the side to make an income while being a stay-at-home mom. After two years of streaming and moderating for others, I've realized that some streamers are extremely lucky in getting sponsorships, receiving financial support, and being gifted with various things. At first, it was inspiring to see their success, but eventually, I came to the realization that I can't reach that level of success. Most of these streamers achieved their high status within a year. I do admit that I became jealous because I worked so hard to create my own layouts and emotes. I went out of my way to help others, and I worked extremely hard. However, I just don't understand why I didn't get the same opportunities. I used to work so much on Twitch began to cut into my family time, and I didn't like that one bit. I was constantly chasing something. That's when I made the decision to leave it all behind and start making gameplay videos on KZbin. It was a much nicer space, where I could just be in my own corner doing my thing and working on my craft. There are no more sound alerts or chat notifications constantly reminding me that I'm not doing well. However, despite finding this new creative outlet, I'm in my early 30s and feel like I'm just roaming this planet without a clear sense of career purpose. I never quite figured it out since my kids came into the picture. I'm not jealous of people's wealth, but I do envy their opportunities and sense of purpose. Money is nice, but my only real goal is to take my kids around the world and have the financial means to do so. That's it. Anyways, this made me tear up thank you for the video

i compared myself to my cousins (twins) who are studying in the same field as me. For context I am 24 now, they are 22. They are in a academically better Unviersity compared to me. They're graduating this summer while im just now graduating in Winter 2023... They got great internships at the big 4 accounting firms, while I just got a smaller (still competitive) firm. They're getting full time offers for their desired position while I wasn't able to get a full-time offer at the end of my internship. But I realized that I just prioritized a different path, I had a goal to graduate without debt, but with this mindset, it also took a toll on my education. I worked 30+ hours a week freshmen and sophomore year to the point where I took a gap semester to work full time to pay for tuition. With everything going on, it made sense on why I am set back the way I am. Now in comparison, The twins graduate but with 50k+ debt to pay off (uni and car debt) while my car is paid off and I will be graduating debt free. So the only thing I am missing out on is getting a full time job offer by the time I graduate. This jealousy drove me to do better. Instead of being depressed and closing myself out, it made me really motivated to achieve better things. I don't let negativity bring me down, I take criticism and take feedback seriously and use them to fuel my drive to do better.

The thing about me is that, i'm quite the opposite. Not that i am jealous of them owning a lambo, a private jet or a 8 mansions But for me, i'm jealous that they can get controll over their time and have freedom and no worries on buying or experiencing things. I am currently a Freshman in College and i thought i joined a program/course where i thought i belong too. I joined a program/course where i know i have passion and experience in and i where i know i was good at. But i cant help but feel that i think i dont belong in that school, its super overwhelming, the people and all the classes. Plus on the side note, our classess/subjects werent even related to the course i signed up on. It felt like i was wasting my time and my parents money for tuition. I can't help but think that i just want to skip to the parts that matter or i want to build several businesses so that i can get financial freedom and wont worry about my future. I'm an art major and i cant stress enough how overwhelmed and how confused i am on what path i should go to. On the other hand i want to dropout to focus on building businesses instead of wasting my time doing homeworks that doesnt really have any relevance or just for the sake of getting the "grade". I see myself as the type of person that doesnt want to be held down by society and doesnt want to be like the rest of the people. I have this hunger inside me where i think in the long run will come handy. But for now, i feel restraint on where i am in life. It feels liek i can do so much more but its like i cant. Factors like school and time management is such a big player and i've been trying my best to manage my time properly. Heck i dont even go to parties or drink outside. My social life is shit and i only talk to a handful of people but cant really express fully on what i feel. It feels like i'm all alone and i find that if i gained money or financial stability, i'll be free from facing problems that doesnt matter, maybe helping out people too or basically getting that freedom of time. I know i'm still young and i know i havent expreinced alot, but here me out. I just really feel like i am wasting my time and that i can do so much more, better things in my opinion. I dont like wasting time since i alwasy feel guilty about it. I want to be financially free to free myself from the worries of society and its standards. I want to let myself grow and not let myself limited from what society is telling me i am only capable of. I am tired and i am sorry for the rant, great video btw. Been financially jealous today as well i guess so thats why i have a bad mood but yea, its an everyday battle for me.

personally when i see those clips or pictures of people flaunting their wealth, I pretty much never get jealous. The reason is i have crippling motion sickness, so when i see people going on trips my mind immediately goes to constant bouts of vomiting that i would need to go through to live that kind of lifestyle, just not worth it for me. And when people show videos of their amazing homes, i just think "damn, if i lived in that suburb i would need to be driven EVERYWHERE".

I think in the future I just work to get by. I do not think I even want anything anymore. Things before the pandemic where still doable and realistic and that is just no longer the case. So for me its not really about the amount of money but more what it represents.

I think my big dream is to start a family with a loving wife and have maybe 3 kids and have enough to give them a good start in life, I never had any siblings so I want to make a fairly big family.

Always hear people online and the radio making way more than you and then feel like a looser shortly after.

Yeah that 15 year old probably came from wealth. Self made wealth usually don’t play around like that. Respect for the money is earned.

So overall, I like the content in the video, but we can take it further. You can hate it all you want, but money really makes your life easier. There are still numerous problems in your life that cannot be solved with more of it, but there are some problems where applying money to it makes complete sense. In the end, it seems like it's about allocating what you do have that will benefit you the most in whatever way you personally measure it. It's not about hoarding it because it has diminishing utility at the end of one's life. You can ask a 90 year old whether they'd want to work in a remote place for $500K or would really want a lambo or mansion and much of the time, they'd say no.

On the rich. I worked at a 250 law firm. The attorneys are making Millions. I was struck by how stupid and entitled they were. One was amazed when I could plug in and setup a laptop……. It’s the 1920s again. Tax the rich
