I'm experiencing sleep paralysis since last two years, I learnt this trick which changed my fear of sleep paralysis. 1. When I start to experience it, I just hold my breath until I woke up. Trust me it works. If you hold for just 30 sec. 2. Mostly I experience it when I sleep during daytime, so try to follow sleep cycle.

So when I was a kid I had very regular sleep paralysis. For no special reason it seems. I didn't know what the hell it was and I basically thought that it was a normal thing for everyone to experience, like a certain subtype of nightmare, and whenever it happened I didn't sleep for the rest of the night. I'm now 20 and I experience it maybe once a month... And let me tell you that no one gets used to it, no matter how often you get it. It's as if a demonic presence invading my whole room was always trying to kill me, very loud pulsating noises seeming to get closer and closer and a danger which seems to get worse and worse as time passes and there's no escaping it; the situation controls you (which can cause 30 sec to feel like an eternity), and the more you try to move the worst it gets, like the intense fear proportional to the danger felt creates even more hallucinatory danger to be felt. So here are my no bullshit tips based on years of experiencing it for those of you who want to make the best use of this experience if it ever happens: if you have sleep paralysis, don't try to escape it. If your eyes are open, close them; if they are shut, keep them shut, otherwise you might see things you may never forget and fear your room for a long time. Then, listen carefully and put your entire focus on the terrible demonic hallucinatory sounds from hell that you hear and then slow down your breathing. As your breathing slows down, it indicates to your brain that the situation doesn't necessitate a fight or flight response. Once you did this, notice what happens; the sounds get less terrible and you can accept their presence. Finally, as your physiological activation decreases, it paradoxically becomes easier to use all the energy and willpower you have to succeed moving a limb and liberate yourself. If you succeed doing that, try to do that with other frightful situations in life (This is personnally the thing I'm the most grateful of that sleep paralysis offered me - a kind of rehearsal for real life situation). When something stressful, bad and extremely anxiogenic happens to you, pay attention to it, slow down your breathing, accept the situation for what it is, don't try to escape it, and then go through it with courage and a more serene state of mind.

When I first started reading your comment, I realized I could have written it too. The same thing happened to me when I was little. I can't remember exactly how old I was but it happened for many years. Probably 10 y/o until my late teens. I never told anyone because I really didn't know how to explain it. I'd be so scared of this demonic entity or energy that I could clearly see in the corner of my eye having this pulsating energy sound After years of experiencing the same thing i started to get curious about what this entity was that would look like a black starfish that somehow would make a electricity kind of sound. One night I stopped trying to get away from of and tried to get closer to it. Tried to focus on it instead of turning my eyes away. I remember being able to make that entity go away at my own will. I would say "hey you come get closer to me, show yourself ", "what do you want?". then that entity would get closer to me. if it got too close I would get scared and I "wake" myself. I'd be in my bed remembering everything that just happened. I kept doing that many times, being able to make that entity less scary until I totally stop being afraid. Somehow this "skill" transferred to my regular dreams on which I was able to change things in my dreams at will. If I was having a dream about being in a park I could put things in that park that I wanted and take things away. If I was having a dream on which I was in danger I could say " wait, I'm dreaming, nothing of this is real", and then make that danger despair. I could start dreaming and say "today I want to fly" and go up flying superman-like and experience the air on my cheeks. It was amazing while it last. But as soon as the episodes with the black starfish entity went away. my skill of being able to control my dreams went away as well. Everything now is kind of blurry because I'm in my 40's now and I have not had any episode since my teens. I never knew what it was until recently that I started doing some research about it out of curiosity. At the time at realized this is not a curse but a blessing. I was able to teach myself to control my dreams. I think the breaking point was when I convinced myself ( I was 85% sure this entity was not a demon that can hurt me but a creation of my own brain). When I was awake I'd be 100% sure it was my own creation but while it was happening I'd grow more doubtful. Once I was convinced this was created by myself I decided to experiment and try to create other things. That's how I was able to control my dream. Sometimes I miss having that "skill" If you are having these same episodes try this out and let me know if it works for you. I'd love to hear if anyone else is able to do what I did.

I had sleep paralysis once in my life. I felt something very strong or heavy moving on my chest and when I tried to move it away instinctively, it gripped my neck very firmly. The first time I experienced sleep paralysis, I also tried to forcefully fight my way out of it. However in the subsequent times, I've found that remaining calm through it and then once I'm stable forcefully try to awake myself all at once. If it didn't work, repeat. Stay calm and once you're calm force yourself to awake all at once. Always worked, usually only need to try one time

People make up bizarre stories when someone in good health mysteriously dies. They've never heard of a brain anyeurism or they just assume a young person can't have a heart attack. So some crazy shit must have killed the person. Just google "Korean Fan Death" to see a crazy example. TL;DR Koreans think that fans in your house can choke you to death in your sleep. Yes, even the highly educated ones I went to college with think this.

If you’re having sleep paralysis from time to time or more often, it can actually be fun to just calm down and observe what’s happening around you. You can also sometimes control the hallucinations, I once turned the demon into an angel who lifted me from my bed and carried into a lucid dream. Sometimes I just laugh inside at the demon who’s trying to scare me or do things to me, as I know it’s just a hallucination.

I heard my voice calling her for help even though I wasn't speaking at all, I couldn't actually but she didn't change the expression at her face. then she got up and walked to me till she was like few inches away from me and she kept staring then she smiled a very wide creepy smile then she turned around and left, then I woke up.

At first this made me feel even more claustrophobic, but I guess I'm glad now cause I wouldn't have wanted to see something unpleasant. This is a real thing. Sleep paralysis is the most helpless feeling in the world. Imagine laying on your bed waking up and not being able to move or talk, but yet you see everything around you like you’re awake. I’ve been having sleep paralysis for 7 plus years. My girlfriend is a very light sleeper so when I am sleeping next to her I breath in and out really hard or wiggle my fingers and or toes and she feels it and wakes me up. If you’re alone and having those episodes just keep calm because the more you panic the more you’re going to sike yourself out. Even tho the episodes feels like an eternity, Remember that it’s temporary and it only last a couple of second or minutes.

I used to experience this when I was very young. It was terrifying. It started up again recently. Thank you for this explanation. Makes it easier to deal with when you learn the scientific explanation instead of the demonic one you thought it was. Still, fighting to wake yourself up is hard sometimes. I just try not to panic. It's gotten to where I can almost feel it coming on somehow. Sleep deprivation=sleep paralysis. To sleep or not to sleep 🤔

veeta true. people can't let their emotions out these days because of other people manipulating them. even though they are trying to be understood for once because many of them probably are trying to escape reality and find people that actually understand them for once. many of them bottle up their emotions and have no one to talk to.

For years now since I was younger I’ve had vivid nightmares. I can thankfully say as I’ve gotten older they occur way less than they used to. I remembered mastering the ability to shut my eyes even when I’m in my dreams to avoid seeing some of the terrors that could potentially follow. Some of the horrific entities I’ve seen will forever be in my mind, but for those that don’t experience it. I hope you never have to EVER

Loud bangs like pounding on a door. Electric vibrating feeling. Hurts to try and move, especially your neck. Most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. Started for me at 22. It was an almost every night occurrence for like 2 years. Then when I moved it went away. Moved again a couple of years later and it started again. For me it depends on surroundings, which leads me to believe it’s possibly other-worldly. People can laugh at that, but unless you’ve experienced it….you can’t imagine the terror of that feeling. Ominous presence of danger and unable to move. Fight or flight without the ability to do either. You can learn to use it as a jumping off point for lucid dreaming if you can remain calm. Only been able to do that a couple of times out of what is probably 100’s. The fear is really strong.

Tip of Advice. Try moving the fingers feet and hands it requires less effort than to move the whole body. When you manage to move your fingers then this is the time you can move the limbs and after that you can now move your body. In my case when my body is in sleep paralysis I just let it be and during that time i chose to close my eyes until i come back to sleep. I prioritize my rest over my fears.

The first time I got sleep paralysis was when I was about 7. I fell asleep and woke up and saw my father missing an arm, and instead of blood coming from his arm, it was cotton like the stuff you put in teddy bears (sorry abt the English). It was terrifying cuz I couldn't move or scream, until my mother came inside my room to wake me up for dinner, I was fully awake. It was scary, but after some night, I kinda I dont care anymore, now I'm 14

Interesting take on Sleep Paralysis. It was during me teenage years that, when it first occurred, I've had the experience many times. I usually have some fear of not being able to wake the body up. Now I'm in my 40s and it rarely occurs - maybe once or twice a year, usually when I have too much mental activity even though the rest of my body is tired. I've practiced taoist and some buddhist meditation for some years now and have grown accustomed to being in an absorbed focused state of mind. With this experience I believe I can make some observations and comparisons between a focused meditative state of mind and the mental state of experiencing sleep paralysis: In meditation practice, after closing my eyes, my senses are gradually reduced through placing awareness on these senses. My heart rate and breathing slows, and gradually mental thoughts become less frequent and gradually slows down to a state where u can "see and count" your words / thoughts. Further into that state. Gradually, the feeling of absorption will occur and thoughts and sensations be lessened to almost zero. The feeling is very pleasant and I choose to reside in that sate. If I were to decide to end my meditation, I could do that at any moment, but it will take a few seconds before the "neurons" connect and my body is able to move. In contrast, during sleep paralysis, after closing my eyes, my senses also reduces to zero but it feels like my senses rolled off a cliff - it happens very quickly and without my consent =) Thoughts during paralysis remain very active, but because full awareness is placed on our thoughts(which are active) and no longer our senses (which have shutdown to a great degree) - what happens is we also experience absorption, but on our thoughts instead. Sometimes we see imagery when our thoughts and part of our sight consciousness interact. I can intentionally create imagery of a ticking clock, people or a random location I remember etc. It is much more difficult to "exit" this state - I usually have some fun with it, relax, gather the sensation of breathing and will to the region near just between and slightly above my eyes and "command" my eyes to open. After recovering from Sleep paralysis I've found that sitting up, taking a few steps and doing some some stretches / getting some water to drink usually fixes things and I can go back to bed without fear that paralysis would happen again. I believe this gets the flow of blood and oxygen going properly and usually fixes sleep paralysis for me.

I experienced more than 10 instances of sleep paralysis, particularly when I was between the ages of 16 and 19. I would often force myself to wake up out of fear that I would not be able to move and would never wake up again. This is a phenomenon known as "Bangungot" in Filipino. The following are the scariest instances of sleep paralysis that I have experienced: 1. I remember one instance where I fell asleep in my parent's room in the afternoon around 3-4 pm. When I tried to open my eyes, it was dark and it was already evening, more than 6 pm (I am not sure of the exact time). All I could see was darkness, but I could still make out some images, particularly a Mama Mary figurine standing on top of a cabinet in my parent's room. I felt scared because it felt like the figurine was staring at me. I tried to move and shout for help, but it was no use. After a few seconds or minutes (I cannot recall), I could move my body and immediately ran out of the room. 2. I am particularly fond of sleeping in the guest room in my house. The guest room is located in the last corner of the first floor, near the living room and the gate. The second floor has my parents' room, the middle has the kitchen and the last corner has two bathrooms. My own room is located in the last corner of the third floor and the first corner of the third floor is the rooftop. One night, when I woke up past midnight, I couldn't see anything, but it felt different this time because I felt like someone was lying on top of me, holding my hand, eyes, mouth, and body. It may have just been my imagination, but like before, I tried to move my body and after a few seconds or minutes, I woke up and saw nothing but the light in the room. (Ever since then, I have been uneasy sleeping alone in the dark.) 3. Another instance occurred when I was sleeping in my own room on the third floor. I have experienced many instances of sleep paralysis in this room and one of the scariest was when I woke up past midnight and realized I was experiencing sleep paralysis again. I thought it was normal and tried to move my body after a few seconds or minutes, but this time it was different. I thought I had already moved my body and was able to stand up, but it was just an illusion. I was still unable to move and was still lying in bed. I didn't know what to do, and I could only force myself to move. 4. Sometimes, you may think you have passed the sleep paralysis and can go back to sleep, but you are wrong because after you passed it, you can still experience sleep paralysis again for the second time. It's frustrating and can be a real obstacle to getting sleep. 5. I am not certain if this can be considered sleep paralysis, but I will include it because it is both interesting and somewhat scary. When I was 17 years old, and a senior in high school, I woke up in my bed and attempted to open my door and go downstairs. Then, I woke up again for the second time. I didn't pay much attention to it because it had happened to me before. I opened the door, went downstairs, brushed my teeth, bathed, and put on my uniform. I am not sure if I ate or not, but I may have forgotten. Anyway, after I put on my uniform, I went outside and rode a tricycle as transportation. In the middle of the ride, I felt something was off. Everything was quiet, even the sound of the tricycle's engine. I could only see the hands and body of the driver moving, but I couldn't see his face (or perhaps I simply do not remember). I then realized that I was the only passenger. At that moment, I felt a chill and woke up from my bed for the third time. It was a terrifying second loop. ... After experiencing all of this, I realized something: 1. It is important to avoid staying up late at night, as it can have a negative impact on one's health. Aim to sleep during the hours of 8 pm to 11 pm, rather than 12 am to 4 am. 2. Based on my personal experience, it is advisable to avoid sleeping while facing the ceiling as all instances of sleep paralysis that I have experienced occurred in that position. I try to sleep on my side, even though it may be uncomfortable at times. 3. Based on my experience, sleeping in a room with very too cold air-conditioning can increase the likelihood of experiencing sleep paralysis. 4. Additionally, if you dream of something bad, scary, or intense, it can also increase the likelihood of experiencing sleep paralysis.

⚠️Important⚠️ Some things that are best to know that will help you: im in my late teens, but still have had some numerous unforgettable experiences that made things clear to me going forward. 1- you may sleep perfectly fine, but then, you may have a dream/nightmare, but still rarely enough, after that, its possible you wake up in your room on your bed at mostly-darkness no light AND you may be sleep paralyzed, you most definitely will have different feelings relating paranoia/fear/ hardness or numbness in body/shivering/even uncontrollable shaking. the moment you open your eyes, you will start to realize everything (where, what, when), and perhaps at that moment your hallucinations will start to take into effect, you will see THINGS you never thought were real or possible, so at that moment you MUST for your own safety to close your eyes(shut them completely no matter what), bc if not its then only a matter of short time (could be a few seconds) before whatever THINGS are about to get closer and more horrifying. you may hear sounds, dont listen to them, they will make you more paranoid and crazy and even perhaps contribute to your chance of fainting/or worse. Your SENSES are your enemy, cover your face immediately, you may get intrusive thoughts/voices, ignore completely, I like to shut my eye lids, and continually roll them at circles, so that my brain cant make a clear image of anything. my experience is pretty horrifying, there are two clear times where I learned from my mistakes. also sorry to say this, but having a door beside you makes you play at 10X difficulty than scary. WARNING (⚠️SPOILER OF SCARY EXPERIENCES⚠️) first time I remember was when I kid, less than 9yo, slept np with my parents on their bed. but then all of a sudden I woke. I had no idea what was happening, remember I was a child, no matter what, how could I have known what to do in such a situation. the next part is where the hallucinations kick into effect, the bedroom door was in the corner which the bed faces(good safety design), but still the path outside bedroom was lit, the door was open abit, enough to make you see if there was someone standing up😭, next a so appearing scary demented clone of my mom appeared, it was at that moment I should have closed my eyes, but dumb, I was paralyzed, I saw it all, it then started get closer to the bed, it wasnt walking, it was blinking and then the next moment it was one step closer, and then blink, closer. I dont remember how it ended. But to this day I hold this scar in my memory, its unforgettable. This is a lesson to not see whatever hellish thing there is no matter what. ALWAYS CLOSE YOUR EYES. and I hope we all survive through this 😫

I get sleep paralysis very often. Especially since I lay on my back to elevate my neck. I’ve gotten so used to it that I now immediately know when it’s happening and can force myself to take slow, deep breaths which helps me break out of the “episode” I also notice that whenever I have dark, or negative thoughts during a dream, I immediately go into sleep paralysis. It is strange. The only thing that bothered me was a week ago during sleep paralysis, I had the sensation that someone put their finger in my open mouth. Like I swear I could feel something in my mouth for a second. That … was not fun.

for me i was chilling in bed and felt sooo tired and just drop asleep and after i hear laughing and scratching. couldnt move at all or speak but could breath fine. which made me think it was not near me enough to choke me but to scare me enough to make me freeze. guys whenever this happens NEVER OPEN YOUR EYES IF YOU CAN! i learnt the hard way when one i opened my eyes and i saw the tall black figure just staring at me for about 5 seconds then started screaming and my whole body went numb and i saw a thin body of me and my actual body still in bed and i when i realised i jumped straight back into my body and closed my eyes and then i woke up with me feeling very cold and my heart racing. not a fun feeling. since then ive had this for about a year or 2. so i have enough experince where i know what to do and it works. like sqeezing even the smallest muscle would work or trying to do something to hurt ur body or just breath nice and slow but not too slow and try to get calm.

I used to have sleep paralysis almost every single. Ight none stop and it was getting hard to deal with , sometimes someone would choke me , sometimes someone would talk in a unknown language and being scary so I would pray in my head to be saved . Good news is I haven't got any episode in like 5 years . What has changed is that I stopped taking medication for anxiety, I have stopped taking pain killers for my back and i used to work out a lot so I would take a protein shake or a toast before bed but I have stopped all of this and all this has gone away . I live a cleaner life in general and don't drink much anymore . I feel way better in that sense of my life

I've had sleep paralysis before. a number of times actually and it's nothing like what the girl in this video portrayed, it's very frightening being conscious and not being able to move, hearing strange noises, not being able to breathe. it's not something you wake up to thinking, (calmly) hello? I'd anyone there? no it's hard to talk when this happens and you scream in your mind trying to force the words out of your mouth.
@jamesvan2201
@jamesvan2201 7 жыл бұрын
it's like someone choking you while you try to scream for help, you try to yell but you just can't force the words out. another thing they didn't go into very much are the things you see and hear. I've never seen anything when i went through this but I've heard things. I heard a clicking sound under my bed at first it starts out show but then gets fast and reminded me of the clicking sound that cicadas make. it's scary but the few times I've had it it only seemed to last about a minute or so. it seems the more I panicked, the easier it was too break free of the paralysis. it gives you a deep feeling of claustrophobia being tied down in a straight jacket and locked in a small box. afterwords I felt a little dizzy and disoriented. I wish this video went more in depth and the actress was a little more accurate at depicting the emotions that come with sleep paralysis.

Silver Steel maybe for some people. But for a lot of people it creates a fear, an anxiety every night before bed, they think "oh no.. is time for bed again... Is this going to happen to me again tonight?" It causes panic attacks, for me, at least, it causes anxiety attacks about going to sleep. It made me not want to sleep, and I would throw myself into an even worse anxiety attack. I'm over it now but after 4 years of going through it. I went and spoke to a counselor, he told me it was happening from high anxiety and stress from what was going on in my life (my wife died) and he told me that when I learned to deal with it and not let it weigh so heavy on my conscience that it would be manageable. And in about 2 years I've not had an anxiety attack or the sleep paralysis. I have minor panic attacks but those have become easy for me to deal with and thus keeping the panic attack from effecting me.

I always fight my sleep paralysis. It takes a few seconds to move. You do feel like strange things are happening at your bedside. I can also hear and feel the presence of my spouse in the background watching tv or whatever she’s doing if she’s awake. It only happens to me as I first doze off at bedtime. It’s never happened in the middle of a nights sleep. It is a little scary not over the top. I actually know when it’s happening. You struggle with all your mental might to move a muscle and shake it off. If you try and immediately go right back to sleep you can feel your self slipping right back in so I try to stay up for like 5 minutes then it usually goes a away for the rest of the night.

Currently 2:19 am and I just had my first experience with it. Im 13 and my god it was scary. I lay on my side during sleep and suddenly I woke up to my leds off, at first I thought my mom turned them off but the longer I kept my eyes open the more intense the crushing became on my lower body. The longer my eyes were open the more of them came. I saw red beedy eyes and silhouettes in the moonlight that was coming through my window and into my room. I closed my eyes and it ended after SECONDS. The crushing turned into tickling that beczme torturous because I couldn't move. I think it wasn't the crushing thing. It was fear. Terror.

I only have had this once, and it was one of the first times I remember that I dreamed/thought in my sleep. I was very young, around 3-5 years old, and I felt a pressure in my chest while my eyes were open. My room felt disoriented, and I remember a white glow in the corners of my eyes, I tried to sit up but my chest was being pushed so hard and there was a grey spot forming on it. I was really scary considering I was so young. I was very confused and disoriented too. Edit: nvm I had it last night too, saw a shadow figure moving and heard things that weren’t happening. I felt like I was fighting to open my eyes it’s rlly stressful 😭

through having my sleep paralysis I was able to teach myself better control of my dreams, and now I have constant lucid dreams were I get to decide were I go and what I do, I don't have complete control like flying, it seems that I am limited to only what I can do in real life, sometimes more sometimes less. And my paralysis are pleasant, I've only had 2 before but it was more like an out of body experience for me, I couldn't move and couldn't open my eyes but I could see everything in my room and see myself beneath me, like my soul left my body. wish I can experience that again, it only lasted 10 seconds both times, now my favourite superhero is doctor strange.

Sleep paralysis for me is the start of an out of body experience, a blissful deep meditation, or tapping into a different dimension. I experienced it few times, it happens always at the time of afternoon nap. But luckily i watched this in one of discovery channels documentary, so I was completely relaxed since my 1st experience. I never saw any visuals nor heard any sound, in fact my 1st experience was in my hostel, few of my friends were gossiping in my room and I was sleeping, when I woke up, i was listening to each and every word they were saying but couldn't even move from my bed. About feeling evil, its more of a feeling like nothing is in your control and there is no hope at all, just being relaxed breathing slowly and moving your toes is the key to come out of it. And remember once are awake just get up and don't try to sleep again, atleast be fully conscious for atleast 10-15 min and then sleep again. Or you will be trapped in a terrifying loop like I did once. Once I was too tired and taking nap at afternoon, i had this experience and I came out of it and fell a sleep again, and it happened again, this continued for almost 30 min, and those 30 min were like hell, so much hopelessness, i was almost started to believe that this is paranormal, this is not something in my control. And finally 1 thing came to my mind that I must get out from the bed right now, then only I felt relaxed. I almost started to believe in ghost that day.... 😜😜😜

I once had sleep paralysis and instead of fighting it I just tried to relax and give in. I ended up feeling like I was falling, then strange, beautiful portals appeared. I created a body and flew over a sci-fi city (lucid dreaming, of course). I haven't feared sleep paralysis since. It's a great way of entering lucid dreams quickly once you master letting go instead of trying to fight the paralysis.

The only time I had sleep paralysis, I couldn't even open my eyelids. It's like I was stuck inside a dream while I was still conscious tho and my hearing/taste was awake in the real world. It was very weird experience as I was experiencing dream world/real life simultaneously.

Kido A wow, that's extremely cool 2 find out another human being does this also thanks 4 commenting. I used 2 struggle SO hard 2 wake up wen I finally snapped out of it my body was so drained and tired like I was wrestling with an Olympian or sumthin. Luckily I figured out 2 relax and try 2 make a noise but I'll still never get comfortable with it. It just feels 2 unnatural

This has happened to me... My blanket was covering my mouth and nose, making me not be able to breath and shout. I tried to remove it but I cannot move. I ran out of air and fainted. It was a horrible nightmare
