It's too simple for me. To me, in order to be a pattern, it needs a definite start and end so you get some satisfaction from completing it. This is just rearranging sticks at random. It's like those fidget cubes or chains that you can fold to make different shapes. You might as well fold and refold a piece of paper.

If you mean an actual toy and not a recording device, I highly recommend a mobius ring (sometimes called an infinity ring). It’s a really small, metal stim toy and one of the best things about it is most of the ones I’ve seen just look like a piece of jewellery or little trinket, so they’re very low-key and minimal. I like to carry mine with me in my pocket or purse wherever I go.
@rainbowraven1038
@rainbowraven1038 Жыл бұрын
I use fidget spinners in my coat pocket. The metal one I got is fun to fondle as well as slow spin in my pocket. I find it satisfying. But I also LOVE fidget/worry rocks. Not the normal ones. I find unique ones that fit my hands nicely at my local metaphysical store. And just out in nature too sometimes. Maybe you've tried these already, but just in case you haven't. Good luck in your search!

Dude, I think magnets are where it’s really at. I ordered a few fidget toys that I really like - they’re sturdy and stimulating, but there really is something about being able to make various patterns. I keep thinking about these little cube magnets I played with at the children’s science and toy store and this confirmed I need to just go back and buy them! I will add these to my list too :) I like having a few different kinds. Thanks, Haley, for another great suggestion! I’m really glad I saw one of your AuDHD shorts one day - the autism was the missing piece to my ADHD diagnosis! I have discussed with my therapist and (of course, as a good autist) am deep into my research over autism. I’m self-identified officially. Learning more and figuring out how to share new knowledge with my partner :) ❤

Another similar one are those “magic loops” that used to be popular in the late 90s/early 00s. They’re also called metal mandalas and they kind of resemble a flower when pressed flat, but you can transform into all sorts of interesting shapes. I have several that I keep around my house (including one in my car) and they even come in different sizes. A lot of them are big enough that if you put it in the right shape, you can wear it as a bracelet!

Another thing for people who like patterns is I found solving a rubix cube really works for me! It only took me a day to learn and it only takes me 40 seconds to solve one. It just resets my brain and gives both my hands and brain something to focus on. As for learning how I just wrote down the algorithm steps to solve a cube and solved a cube repeatedly following the instructions until it became second nature.

Honestly my issue with stim toys is that they arent Big enough. This wouldn't work for me because I'd just get irritated at how small it is. I'm the kind of person who needs to punch and pull pillows around or walk continously in a big circle with my hands clenched. I will just need to stim more if I only have a teeny tiny stim toy and that leads to wagging my arms around relentlessly and looking like a crazy person. Seriously is there anything I can do in public that's more discreet ? An entire restaurant does not need to abruptly learn that I'm autistic.
