@@TheHumblePenny Ken, as a 60 plus year old Irishman I thank you for your wonderful advice and openness to a world that is a mystery to me. So much of what you said in your video made so much sense and I really believe that society and businesses treat us all like human batteries, to be discarded at the end of our useful life. The future is indeed portfolio work and so many jobs will simply disappear, or be automated. My respect to Mary and yourself

Great video! How do you prioritise investing over paying down a mortgage for example. Like you say, paying off existing debt is a guaranteed return. Secondly, investing. Do you recommend any platforms to start? In this day and age, the concern is having too many things in too many places to keep track of it. Lastly, how do you balance being financially mature (whilst trying not to become consumed by it) and “you only live once”, to enjoy your money.

@@TheHumblePenny I was very shocked to find out that after graduating in 2012, I've only cleared just over £4,000 from a 24,000 loan. What they don't tell you is the loan interest rate is variable based on the bank of England and it's compound interest. I earn a decent wage but paying over £200 a month is soul destroying when I know it's not going to make a difference to this debt im in is frustrating

I have a question Can a person on tier 2 visa start up an online business in UK?
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny Жыл бұрын
I believe so! Here is what the government site says: With a Skilled Worker visa you can: work in an eligible job study bring your partner and children with you as your ‘dependants’, if they’re eligible take on additional work in certain circumstances do voluntary work travel abroad and return to the UK apply to settle permanently in the UK (also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain’) if you’ve lived in the UK for 5 years and meet the other eligibility requirements You cannot: apply for most benefits (public funds), or the State Pension change jobs or employer unless you apply to update your visa NOTE: It does not say that you cannot start your own business. Feel free to call the Home Office and ask them. You don't need to give them your personal information in order to get an answer to this.

I needed this, im a single man in his early 30's, the only debt I have is my mortgage, I have 4 months emergency fund stashed away in a fixed saving accounts. I've saved up and another £2000, not too sure whether I should use this to pay extra towards my mortgage or possibly use it to learn a new skill? I work as a software engineer but I dont feel like I want to really invest my free time into learning more about software development, ive done that in my early career and quickly got burn out. Maybe I should look at the college near me and see what evening courses they have or possibly have a look at some online courses on Udemy and see if theres anything that tickles my fancy that I could purse on the side. What would you guys suggest? I feel like doing something with my hands, I have tried a little bit of carpentry and enjoyed it. But I would definitely use £5000 to invest in myself and learn a new skill that I could monetize

Great progress, Paul!! I won't put that extra money in your mortgage. Using it to learn a new skill. And do it online. I REALLY like your Carpentry idea. Why? You can use it to build for others AND you can make A LOT of money online teaching Carpentry.

I think if you have credit card debt of £5k, and yet have £5k sat in the bank, and you don’t have the good sense to pay the card off, then you deserve to be poor…
