Thank you very much for your kind thoughts. I believe the question I've been asked is not negative or argumentative, he is just unaware that I don't have a table saw. Those who follow the channel know that I started with a drill , a dremel and an orbital sander and that I'm slowly building everything I need for an organized workspace. Not everyone knows, so every questions is legit. I will continue to share what I do because it can help others solve problems or find inspiration (and also because I really enjoy making videos). What a great solution! I have a very small shop and a small bandsaw and big drill press are the only stationary tools i can place. I have a hand circular saw but it isn't suitable for precision work. I'm wondering why you didn't move the square down the rule of your combination square to check the fence. Every combination square I've ever owned has that adjusting feature. They even make smaller combination squares that are just as good at being square. I'm just curious.
@LTMS7 күн бұрын
Mine was just an example to show that you can't always quickly check if it's square or not and then adjustments are needed. With the jig, on the other hand, you just rest the fence on it and voilà.

@LTMS6 күн бұрын
I don't usually give exact measurements of what I build because everyone has different needs and tools of different sizes. I try to give an idea and inspire people. In the case of this jig the only fixed measurement is the distance between the front edge and the blade (which varies on each different saw brand), the width doesn't matter and can vary even by an inch. Thanks for your thoughts.

@LTMS8 күн бұрын
There are really many causes of blade drift, the position on the wheel, the tension of the blade and also the sharpening. I adjusted the shelf so that the side was parallel to the blade and then I adjusted the position and tension of the blade until it cut parallel to the fence. This video may help you kzbin.info/www/bejne/rH_Ho56jrZuYnqssi=6qCYNNXNe81bdZxF
@melgross7 күн бұрын
Also, if the wear on one side of the blade is greater than the other, it will drift to the sharper side.
@JohnColgan.7 күн бұрын
There are guide pins (or if you're lucky ... Rollers) below the table as well as on the drop down guide bar. Set both to have sire minimal movement of the blade. Set correct tension. Reduces play that can I initiat3 blade drift. Many entry bandsaws have a quick tension release so that the blade is not permanently tensioned, flip the tensioner again before cut

Does that fence always lock off parallel the same way and by the same amount each time? If so, the two screws on the top are for you to fix that. Loosen them and straighten the fence, then tighten and it should be good. If it doesn’t, then it’s a bigger problem.
@LTMS7 күн бұрын
On larger band saws there is that feature, here it is not. The 2 top screws are just assembly screws. I consider this a minor flaw for such a cheap product that overall I am very satisfied with.

On my bandsaws, the blades do not necessarily track parallel to the fence. I take a straight 1x4 and mark a straight line down the middle, then cut it halfway by hand on the bandsaw, staying right on the line. Then, without moving it, I clamp it to the table and set my fence to that board, ignoring what is parallel or square. Now, I get perfect rips every time. If I change the band, I use this same procedure to get the new fence setting. It works for me.
@LTMS10 күн бұрын
If you use the same procedure and then adjust the saw table parallel, you only have to do it once and then with my jig you can adjust it quickly.
@samTollefson10 күн бұрын
@@LTMS That may be. I have several resaw bands with slightly different characteristics, fine veneer-grade blades, and green wood blades that must be calibrated independently. Small band saws will only follow the fence accurately when the blade is new. When the cut starts to deviate slightly it is some time of benefit to slightly offset the fence

It does not matter whether you use Imperial (inches, feet) or Metric (aka SI) with millimeters and centimeters (American spelling), as long as you use the same scale throughout your project. I am Canadian and grew up using both. Metric is easier to add or divide due to the base-ten decimals and not 1/16th or 1/8th type of fractions. Cheers.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t make those cuts on a table saw. The jig is nice. The filming is great…but the question remains why?
@LTMS Жыл бұрын
I don't have a table saw at the moment, just a small circular saw, so I make a lot of cuts with my band saw. Having the guide perfectly parallel is very important especially if you have to resaw thick pieces. The two test cuts I make at the end are just to demonstrate that if the bandsaw guide is parallel you can get a lot of accuracy. Thank you very much for your time and support, hope I answered your question.
@teacheme Жыл бұрын
A mitre saw would be even better for that type of cut but not everybody has one. It's also worth pointing out that cutting small pieces, such as dowel plugs, on either a mitre or table saw is dangerous and I tend to find that the cut pieces fly all over the place when cut on my mitre saw.
@LTMS Жыл бұрын
I use the band saw a lot, I find it much safer than tools with spinning blades, obviously it depends on the use, but since I don't have a table saw, the band saw is much faster instead of using guides and clamps to make cuts with the circular saw. We'll see when I get a table saw, however for non-repetitive cuts I prefer the Japanese hand saws. 😉
@jimbo262923 күн бұрын
The band saw is quieter but can be less accurate than the table saw. With this accuracy will improve. Such a simple solution.

Every band saw is different... the length is from the edge of the shelf to the blade, the width does not matter, how much you like it. You will hardly find the precise measurements in my videos, I give an idea that must be adapted to your needs, which are different for each person.

Fence on a band saw is not supposed to be parallel!
@melgross7 күн бұрын
It’s supposed to be parallel to the slot in the table.
7 күн бұрын
@@melgross No it isn't either, you set it to the blade by making a cut after the blade is adjusted and tensioned.
@melgross7 күн бұрын
No you don’t. The blade is first set to the slot, then the fence is set to the slot. You loosen the table screws, adjust the table so the slot is parallel to the side of the blade. Then you set the fence to the slot. If you have a decent. Saw, and you adjusted the blade on the top wheel properly and the guides, all of which must be adjusted correctly before you worry about the table, then you’ll be fine. If you have to play around to adjust it to a cut, then something is wrong. Just ask any if thousands of experienced woodworkers or saw makers.

@@melgross Make a cut then adjust the fence to the cut you just made .every blade acts different. also why Carter has a magnetic fence! Google it,
@LTMS7 күн бұрын
You are both saying the same thing, if after the control cut the shelf is aligned parallel to the cut you are both right. The setup of the saw is very important, but here we are talking about an entry level product for amateurs, and a jig like mine is used to solve a problem quickly. I personally use it almost always without the fence to avoid drifting problems.

@@rafaelmijares9197 Yes I prefer myself a bandsaw instead of a tablesaw, I was just pointing about precision, which is never going to be perfect on a bandsaw, as the blade wants to go off a littlle bit, even if you have a nice jig or fence.
