I would like to point out that the options for elope are somewhat confusing. Elope means to run away to get married. It has also been used in the context of slipping away (to escape), so I think semantically the word is more concerned with the act of running away. This is further substantiated by the etymology of the word.
@roma577026 күн бұрын
Agreed....the meaning of words show....doesn't actually know.
@easy_s335114 күн бұрын
I totally agree, was going to comment something similar. Elope comes from aloper, esloper which means to abduct, run away. From "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow": "To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield."
@juliemartin28345 күн бұрын
@@gurpartapsinghkaur9940 no ambiguity here. They ran away 'to' Las Vegas, 'to' get married. Not,They ran away, 'in' Las Vegas. If the sentence had read, ' They ran away 'from their home 'in' Las Vegas' to get married in Las Vegas' , ok. Most people run away from somewhere else 'to' get married in Las Vegas. I am enjoying this, thank you 😄

To me, elope has always emphasized the secrecy. Also, that you could elope to do other things too, though this might be linguistic drift. Zealous can also mean exacting, because it is the watchword of fundamentalism. And I did know them all, though I mixed up evince. It was harder than quixotic due to the obvious Don Quixote roots.
