I hope you enjoy this video, folks! Let me know if you have read any of these books in the comments section below. Also, my new book 'The Girl Aquarium' is published this week. It’s about girlhood, disfigurement & queerness - the history of the freak show. If you'd like to check it out, that would be lovely. Details, links & sample poems can be found here: www.jen-campbell.co.uk/the-girl-aquarium xx

I purchased your new book on Sunday but unfortunately live in Australia so may have some time to wait.So frustrating as I am soooo excited and can't wait to have it in my hands.Youe videos encouraged me to write poetry and I recently read one of my poems at an event where an author from one of the big publishing houses was in attendance.She approached me later and told me I should send some of my work for appraisal as she thought I was a very talented writer and all because I watch your youtube channel.I cannot thank you enough and will be buying the rest of your books as I can afford them as I am a disability pensioner and we don't exactly make the big bucks.Sending lots of hugs and best wishes for your recovery.

Just started to read The Girl Aquarium and so fare it is brilliant like all your writing. I can't read poetry for hours I need to read two three poems and then think for a day or two and then continue. That makes to book last longer:)))

April has been one tough month, glad to hear you’re starting to feel better, though! I just finished Disobedience. I really loved how Alderman used different styles of narration as well as weaving Orthodox Jewish beliefs/culture in a way that I found really enriching to the plot and especially intriguing for readers such as myself who don’t come from that particular background!

Welcome back! I'm sorry that you have been so unwell. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery! 💖 Oh, and I wanted to tell you that my copy of "The Girl Aquarium" arrived last Thursday, and I absolutely loved it!!! I don't read much poetry anymore because I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to "understand it correctly". But after I've read one of your posts, where you talked about author intent and opening a text up to different interpretations by sending it out into the world, I felt really encouraged and motivated to give it a try. So, I sat down with a pencil and gave myself all the time in the world to think about every word and sentence and wrote down my thoughts. And I have to say, it was wonderful! Thank you!

An off-topic question about disfigurement. Are you familiar with Dissolution, Dark Fire, etc. by C.J. Sansom? It's a historical mystery written from the pov of a hunchback lawyer in 1540 London

Love your book recommendations. I was wondering why you don’t put ratings on books you’ve read on goodreads.
@jenvcampbell5 жыл бұрын
Because I find star ratings slightly reductive without a written review, so I prefer to review on here instead. I just use goodreads as a way to track my reading.

Hi Jen! Perhaps you could try the debut novel by the classical pianist Stephen Hough, entitled 'The Final Retreat'. It is quite explicit and strong at the beginning, to do with homosexual sex within the church, but if you are a book lover why not give it a try if you wish? Cheers - Mike.
