I used to get bronchitis (lasting months) every year & pneumonia nearly every year. Had pneumonia 13 times AFTER getting the pneumonia vaccine about 16 years ago. I had good diet & took tons of vitamins & herbs (also went gluten, corn, soy, sugar free). Sambucus was the only thing that helped, and liposomal vitamin C helped a lot, these made the bronchitis & pneumonia shorter, but did not prevent. about 2 years ago I started drinking ginger kombucha - I have not been sick at all for 2 years! First time in my entire life to be free of these (first pneumonia when I was 6 months old). Don't know if it is the ginger, or the kombucha, or the combo (not willing to experiment b/c I'm just so happy to be free of lung problems). I think most people drink kombucha as a morning tonic, but it makes me sleepy, so I use it before I go to sleep & it helps me sleep better. So I am a HUGE FAN of ginger konbucha!

Wow it is! The sad thing is that I tried kombucha many years ago, but got too freaked out about some blob growing in something sitting out on the counter for a week - I was too scared about bad bacteria & what was it anyway so I stopped... but now more research & I understand the process of fermentation and how safe it is, so tried it again - with spectacular results!

Sandra, the cheapest and easiest way to get a starter "scoby" is to purchase a bottle of kombucha. Then leave it open with some cheese cloth over the top, and it will form it's own "scoby". You can then use it to make yours, and use the kombucha liquid for your starter. Other than that , if you have a friend making kombucha...they might give you a scoby and some starter tea for free.

Thank you. I love Kombucha. I brewed it years ago and stopped for awhile. I've got back into it and have been really enjoying it. I love the second fermentation where you add some fruit or juice and leave it for 3 days. I have found out so much more about the health benefits. You can also use raw honey instead of sugar, you call it 'Jun'. With Jun you use green tea. This also is very beneficial. Thanks again.

Naturally occurring Fluoride [not so toxic], is a Different, from the kind added to municipal water supplies and dental products [which is quite toxic, and from industrial waste streams].
@Sbannmarie4 жыл бұрын
oh didnt' know that thanks
@direstraights2 жыл бұрын
I've read that IF you're bathing in City water one can use Vitamin C Ascorbic or Tablet form in and then Bentonite Clay to absorb all the toxins. (Not using any other bath products so as not to change the chemistry) What is the difference ? Did your say? Cos' flouride is flouride no? Thanks
@Chimonger12 жыл бұрын
@@direstraights I only know, that if trying to filter fluoride out of a muni water supply, a Different kind of filter is required, because fluoride cannot be blocked by a carbon filter. That said… For shower/bath, whatever chemicals are in the water, there are charcoal filters that greatly reduce much of it, as it comes thru the faucet & filter, but, again, charcoal does not stop fluoride. Vit. C is antioxidant in the body; I have not seen any data proving it does/not stop toxins in the water for bath or shower. Bentonite clay…similar…have Not seen any data proving if it captures toxins in bath water, but, people have used it internally to scavenge toxins from the gut. That would only capture toxins in the gut, it won’t pull toxins out of deeper tissues very well; same used on skin, it can pull some out of skin, but not from deep tissues. Also, caution using clays!! Whether you drain to a septic or to muni sewer, clay gums up the system! If you used 1 c. clay powder per bath, weekly, in an average year, that amounts to poundage of clay settling into your septic tank, or, clogging the screens of muni sewer treatment systems. Might try researching what plant greenery, or maybe chlorella, would detox fluoride & other toxins…chlorella does, & that would just compost in a septic tank. But it would be costly to bathe in! Might take spirulina/chlorella tabs daily, &/or, try skin masks to draw-out toxins.

I make kombucha using something called the continuous brew method. I have a crockery container in the corner of my counter. I replace the tea and the SCOBY and keep the brew going. I have a tap on the container which allows me to just pull off some of the brew as needed. It's a really convenient method.
@QLH.U2bbers7 жыл бұрын
Same here - love it this way.
@tracyflenner4 жыл бұрын
I do mine the same way but my tap no longer works so I take the Scoby out, pour the kombucha in another container so I can pour it into jars without making a mess the put some liquid and the Scoby back in the original container and start another batch.
@kindeyes83498 жыл бұрын
I did continuous brew kombucha using a water dispenser like you have. I loved it, also had a kombucha hotel for the extras that I kept in a dark place. I read that if you continually used the lighter herbal teas that you can rejuvenate your scoby by doing a black tea brew ever 6th time or so. Love the drink especially with ginger in the second ferment.

Aloha, I've been making kombucha now for about 2 months and there are no more stomach issues with raw vegetables or meat. I used to have extreme bloat within 30 minutes of a meal and it would last for hours . Turns out that I haven't been producing sufficient HCL to open the duodenal valve so the food just sat in the warm and moist stomach and began to ferment. I am a kombucha convert!
@heatherk89315 жыл бұрын
Lucy Greene, I know your post was 2 yrs ago, but just seeing it. You mentioned duodenal valve.. I had pancreatic cancer and the Whipple procedure, so the whole thing is gone and more. Do you still drink kombucha and hows your health? I've only recently heard about this and wonder how it would affect my digestion. Thanks a bunch!

I have had a similar experience Lucy. I suffered terribly with IBS and my life became a complete misery. I couldn't go to the shops or any public gatherings, in fact I couldn't move more than 10 steps away from a bathroom it was so bad. Well meaning friends advised me to go to the doctor and he would give me a tablet, ( I already consume 350 tablets a month!) Out of sheer desperation I started looking into kombucha making and have not looked back since. Life is such a pleasure for me now... I can go out with friends and socialise and generally just enjoy life without having to check out where the nearest bathroom is first when I arrive at a function and taking the seating position nearest the door of said room! I'm not saying this is the answer for everyone but it certainly changed my life for the better! I drink one large glass of fruit flavoured kombucha a day.

I had read somewhere that the older the SCOBY the more bacteria it had and the better it was for you. I keep my oldest one (the mother) and I feed the babies to my chicks. Just opposite of you. I liked your method for brewing the tea directly in the jars you're going to ferment in. Something so simple yet I never thought to do it that way. Also learned about bitterness from putting too hot of water on the teabags. Great episode.

Stacey, when I made mine I used black strap molasses instead of sugar, I then did a second fermentation with organic cherry juice. I let it sit of three more days and refrigerated. It tasted a bit like a mild ale. I used the molasses because I didn't have any sugar. I have since purchased some organic raw sugar. But I think I actually liked the first batch the best.
